Physical Description:Fig has short dirty-blonde hair which he keeps authentically tousled. He has brown eyes and orange- or yellow-tinged pale skin. He’s not a particularly fastidious groomer (although more interested in clothes than he was when he was younger), and usually dresses casually - grey or brown trousers, t-shirts or jerseys, beanies, and occasionally a jacket or blazer. His grandmother is an enthusiastic knitter, so rarely a wooly jumper. His favorite is definitely still a well-worn Dominik Wiedman Falmouth Falcons jersey.
He’s not very tall, but growing. He’s about 5’9” and somewhat stocky. In early 2012, he started wearing glasses.
He’s often in motion, lounging askance or tipping in chairs, or standing and leaning when others might be sitting.
Personality Description:Being generally likable and resilient in the face of hardship are probably Figaro’s two best qualities. He’s also known for being impulsive, funny, and undeterred by bullies. He’s friendly to almost everyone and quick to forgive and forget (mostly).
At his worst, he has a reputation for talking out of turn, blabbling about things he shouldn’t. He often speaks before he thinks and forgets to consider others feelings. He rarely has cruel intent, but that only serves to somewhat soften the blow of a transgression.
He speaks his mind freely, but is not quick to share or acknowledge painful or complicated emotions, far more likely to laugh something off or deflect with humor.
He exhibits an unexpected deference when faced with authority figures. Despite his parents somewhat anti-authority views, their home was measured and strict and expectations on him and his brother are high.
Wandwork is not Fig’s strong suit, and he doesn’t use magic very frequently in day to day life. It’s not a conscious decision, but he’s never focused much on being adept. He has some nerves about Apparition and if possible, avoids long jumps in favor of Floo or broom.
If he knew what polyamory was, he'd be that.
History:The Sellaphixes live in an an old house in mostly-muggle Marylebone and run Sellaphix Apothecary in Knockturn Alley. With a brother so much younger, Figaro was an independent young one. He spent a good deal of time in his parents' shop, and was often in trouble for touching, tasting and smelling the ingredients. His parents mainly kept to themselves, hermits Figaro called them. But home life was happy if not a little boring.
When his Hogwarts letter came, his mother did the honors of taking him to the wandshop and stocking him up for school. (All his potion supplies however, came straight from Sellaphix's and not the Diagon Alley shop.) The whole family saw him off at Kings Cross.
Fig was sorted into Hufflepuff and was dismayed at first. He'd heard about famous Gryffindors, and well-off Slytherin. And his dad and mum had both been exceedingly successful Ravenclaws. He wouldn't realize the Sorting Hat's wisdom until later. "My boy, Figaro. That mouth of yours is going to connect you to others and do some real good once you learn to shut it. The only place for you is Hufflepuff!"
Life at Hogwarts was different from the quiet Sellaphix house and it took the boy a good six months to get situated. He kept his head low, blurting out awkwardly most of the time. But soon, he relaxed and began to call Hogwarts home. His tongue loosened and he gained in confidence. He learned that he could make people laugh, and if he said the right things, others would listen to him. And he simply stopped being bothered - everyone had a story to tell.
He has tried unsuccessfully to get on the house Quidditch team every single year. He is absolutely terrible at Quidditch but doesn't seem to be bothered or even notice how often he's de-broomed, drops his beater bat or that its not his job to catch the snitch. In his fifth year, a fluke of a pox benched the whole starting team and Figaro was allowed to play Seeker to... abysmal results. But his spirit never wavered and the roar of the crowd kept him aloft.
Figaro was not a top student, and his efforts faded as the years have gone by. School's got more challenging and more autonomy was expected. He persisted at Ancient Runes despite some very near misses, but eventually dropped it. unfortunately he ended up not achieving strong enough O.W.L.s in Herbology and History of Magic to continue in those either. He seems to get by on the insistence of his Professors and befriending more studious students.
In February of 2009, his father was sent to Azkaban for his involvement in the smuggling of Runespoor. The family was devastated. Previously, Figaro had been ruled by his parent's ambitions that he take over the shop one day, but his poor grades and lack of interest in the field had him a little aimless in his final years of Hogwarts.
Almost on a whim, he applied for a low-level job at the Daily Prophet and in no time he was thriving. Now living on his own in London, he’s slowly adjusting to the adult mode of keeping up friendships and balancing work and life. The balance is more work than life, and without supervision he’s finding himself in more trouble than usual.
In August 2011, his mother became possessed by a Pentral and nearly died. It was a trying time for the family, but a dramatic Dementor attack on the hospital resulted in her being freed and the family could begin healing.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?:Figaro is a people person. While he may be swayed by peer pressure, in his heart everyone is worth talking to. He's not very bright, nor quite bold, and his aspirations extend no further than to make friends and make life better for people around him.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:Figaro is mostly liked by most people, known to be funny and speak out of turn. He’s a bit of a blunt instrument but kind and resilient at heart. As he’s gotten older, he’s become more aware of the consequences of his actions, and the importance of stepping up to do the right thing, even if it isn’t easy. He works at the Daily Prophet and is beginning to aspire to be a proper journalist.
