Can't get rid of me that easily [Other Characters?:] Nope, not at this time.Character Info:[Full Character Name:] Nina Yvonne Morales[Character Birthday & Age:] 4 April 1991//17[City & Country of Birthday:] San Juan, Puerto Rico.[Blood Status:] Halfblood - Both her parents are magical, though her mother's family is not.[House & Year:] Gryffindor//7th Year[Wand:] An Ollivander wand - 9 3/4', Almond Wood, Unicorn Hair Core, slightly springy and pliable. While the young Nina was annoyed that her core was, quote unquote, "for little prissy girls", she thoroughly enjoys her wand and all that she has been able to do with it. The wand is now a bit... worn in, with all the wear and tear it gets. And while Nina tries to take impeccable care of it, she doesn't seem to care if it isn't shined to a glossy sheen. Maybe it likes being a bit scuffed up.[Physical Description:] In Nina's eyes, her physical features receive a 3 out of 5. She isn't drop-dead gorgeous, but she isn't hideous, either. Her dark brown hair and brown eyes come her Puerto Rican background, as does her body shape. She's roughly 5'5" and not really skinny because of her curves, but not really fat, either; leaving her at a somewhat awkward place between the two that isn't 'normal'. But she is very fit from playing Quidditch and Muggle Football non-stop. Her facial features, though, are definitely her favorite attribute of her physique, as she was blessed with clear skin and straight teeth that compensate for her lack of beauty elsewhere. Her appearance, though, isn't one of the items on the main list of things she cares about. Her hair is either hastily thrown up or hastily torn down, as she is always in a rush. She recently started wearing makeup this year, as her room-mates taught her how to apply it without singing off her eyebrows (that was an interesting story from Third Year...). She doesn't like it very much and applies it, like she does with everything else, hastily. Her sense of style is about the same as her sense of makeup - virtually nonexistent. Again, her room-mates have come to her rescue and picked out most of her clothes for her over numerous breaks in Diagon Alley, among other Muggle stores. When out of uniform, she can usually be found in jeans, shredded from frequent use, and a shirt representing her favorite Quidditch teams, currently the Pride of Portree and Puddlemere United, as Nina admires their Chasers. She also supports the Muggle English football team by wearing their attire.[Personality Description:] Nina is one of those people that, when someone first meets, they think they hate. She's very brazen and speaks her mind at anyone's expense, and doesn't think before she speaks. But once people get past that, they find out that she's a very funny, very Quidditch-obsessed girl who is very entertaining to be around. The Puerto Rican is very opinionated and brass, but is also easy-going and kind. Well, maybe not always the former, as she is a bit hot-headed and sometimes seeks confrontation. But that side of her is usually reserved to the Quidditch pitch. Being the middle child of seven, Nina cares a great deal about her family. Also following the middle child stereotype, Nina longs for one thing she can do better than they can. That thing is Quidditch, and is part of the reason she tries so hard at it. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Nina and her three eldest brothers were very close. Well, as close as three boys and a little girl can be. The only brother she does not get along with very well is Andres, possibly because they are the closest in age. She misses Cesar, her eldest brother, terribly as he does not live in the UK, and is delighted that he comes to visit for holidays and most of the summer. And as for Ramon, well, Nina cannot envision life without him. As for her three little siblings, Nina is incredibly protective and maternal. She is delighted that Miguel and Jorge love sports, and cares for the baby of the sister, Ana, with a warmth others rarely see. And unlike most teenagers, Nina loves her parents. She does not love how strict they are, or how much they bother her about her grades, but she truly does care about them. She knows they're only 'mean' to her as it's for the best, so she tries to take their yelling with a grain of salt. Nina especially loves how caring and sweet her mother is, and emulates her attitude towards her siblings and friends. A personality trait Nina inherited from her father is that he loves to help people, and expects nothing in return. Nina certainly takes after both parents as she is very caring and loyal to the ones she loves, and is even nice to the ones that are rude to her. Unless they were to mess with her family, in which case the wrath of Voldemort would seem less scary than the very angry Nina that would emerge. The next most important thing in a young persons life is school. Based on her school performance, one may think Nina is not intelligent. She is, but she has no desire to complete her homework, study, or pay attention in class. She wants to be a Chaser more than anything in the world, and feels that school is a waste of time most days. The two classes she excels in are Charms and Transfiguration, though she likes the former more. Her parents have pleaded, cried, and threatened her to try to keep up her grades, so she tries to oblige. But it's hard to sit and study when one has a broom and a Muggle football at hand, just itching to be taken outside and used. Besides, couldn't she use her football that, at one point or other, could bite, fly, and self-destruct as her Transfiguration homework? But despite her less than enthusiastic tolerance of learning, Nina loves school. What little she pays attention to she usually likes, even if she does feel it will never be of use to her in the real world.Outside of class and Quidditch, Nina can be found with friends, sitting around and talking, usually about Quidditch. She does have other hobbies though, like making up games and eating candy. She also enjoys running and usually goes once a day. She's an early, early riser, as she loves to run during the morning. She has also been known to go down to the Pitch and devise some new maneuvers for her team.Because Nina lived in Puerto Rico for eight years, she speaks Spanish and English fluently. Her parents taught her to be ambitious and loyal and kind. She is all those three things, though her parents rarely see the first attribute in her. Nina is known to start speaking in Spanish when she is very angry or very excited. Nina learnt, early on, that to curse at someone angrily under her breath would get her in trouble; but if she spoke the rude words in Spanish, no one knew what she was saying. Unfortunately, her room-mates have picked up on some of these phrases, so she is very careful to not say them when they have minor arguments with each other.[History:] Nina was born to parents Mateo Morales (46) and Dayana Morales (45) nee Garcia. She has three older brothers - Cesar (26), Ramon (25), and Andres (19). Out of those three, actually, all of her family, she is closet with Ramon. He works for the Department of Mysteries doing something or another, and can make anyone laugh. Cesar owns a magical book-shop back in Puerto Rico, so Nina only sees him once a year at Christmas. Andres, according to Nina, is an 'annoying little twit' because he was the 'perfect child', and is now trying to find a job at the Ministry. Her father is one of the higher-ups in the Ministry, working with the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Dayana stays home with her three younger siblings - Jorge (9), Miguel (4), and Ana (1). Before her three young siblings were born, Nina was the youngest and only girl. Most would have deemed this miserable, but Nina loved it. She was treated as 'one of the boys', and that phrase never left. She still considers herself a tomboy and would much rather play sports than do her hair. As stated above, Nina was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She lived in a modest house and slept in a bedroom the size of a closet, as she was the only girl at the time. But that didn't bother her, as the only reason Nina would be in her room was to sleep. Her and her brothers were always outside playing, as both of their parents worked long hours to support them. A permanent fixture to the Morales household was Nina's Abuela Camilia, Dayana's Muggle mother. While she never really grasped the concept of her daughter and family's magical world, she loved to come to their home and cook dinner or play games with the kids. The boys were always closer with Abuela than Nina was, but that was because Nina had her Tia Claudia, her dad's sister, whom she just called Tia. Tia was a Keeper for the Ardillas Voladoras - Puerto Rico's Quidditch team. Tia brought Nina to all of her games, and it was then she decided she wanted to be just like her Tia. It was Tia who had taught her how to play Quidditch, and it was Tia who gave her her first broom - an old Cleansweep. Tia played with the Ardillas Voladoras for ten years, only she took a Bludger to the knee and never got it checked out. Now, Tia coaches a very small, very basic Quidditch intramural, of sorts, in Puerto Rico for kids like Nina who always wanted to play. When Cesar was eleven, he attended La Escuela de Magia, a school for Wizards and Witches in Spain. Ramon followed in suit. It was thought Nina would go there, too, until her father was transferred from his humble position in the Puerto Rican segment of Control of South American Magical Beasts to his present-day position in London. Nina was around 8 at the time, and Cesar and Ramon had just graduated from La Escuela de Magia. Cesar stayed behind to work in a Wizarding book-shop (that he would eventually come to own), and the rest of the Morales clan packed up and moved to a big house in the suburbs of London. The new house was very large and had a huge yard of grass and trees. Nina would have loved to spend all her time playing in the new big yard, but the move occurred just a mere year after the defeat of Voldemort. And while the Dark Lord had never been much of a threat in Puerto Rico, the Morales clan was wise about the destruction he had caused. And Voldemort's defeat was the main reason Mateo was asked to work in England. As with any war, there was always things that needed to be 'cleaned up', and in his case, he was able to help out with the capture of several Dark Beasts, along with the prevention of illegal tradings and huntings. As both Cesar and Ramon had all ready graduated from school, and Nina was still too young, Andres was the first of the Morales' to ever attend Hogwarts. And he was terrified. Nina recalls laughing at him for his anxiety, and asked if she could go instead. Despite Andres being obnoxiously smart, he was very shy. But when he did go, he had no desire to come back home. The people he met were so academically stimulating he couldn't wait to learn, etc. etc. etc. All that bored Nina. She just wanted to attend the school so she could play Quidditch. At the dawn of her first year, the newly sorted Gryffindor ("A desire to help people. Hidden ambition. Interesting... you must be a Gryffindor!" the Sorting Hat had proclaimed) could not wait to start playing Quidditch. But despite Nina’s excitement to play, she had to wait a few years. Two years, actually. Well, closer to two and a half. Nina was a reserve for the team in her Second Year, and while she attended every practice, she wasn't allowed to play in the games. But she did get to play one game towards the end of the season, and it had been the best day of her life. Granted, she was rarely passed the quaffle, but she scored twice and made a few nice assists. The team was kind enough to let her play next year, and she tore up the pitch. Some thought she was showing off, but she just wanted to prove to everyone that she was good at what she did. It worked, and pretty soon Nina became a phenomenal Chaser, a position she intends to play professionally. With the exception of Quidditch, Nina was bored by school. She kept her grades high enough to still be allowed to play Quidditch, but she never did anything above the bare minimum. It didn't bother her too much, getting a detention for late work, but it didn't thrill her, either. Besides her poor work habit, Nina used the time she wasn't studying to make friends. And she did a decent job at it. As her parents assumed, her closest friends were boys. She had always gotten along better with boys (as they were far less catty and when they fought they would just hit one another and be done with it), but had a few female friends as well.At the end of her Fifth Year, with the OWLs drawing ever more near, Nina received a Howler that yelled (to the entire Great Hall at breakfast) that if she received anything less than an A, her mother would snap her wand in half and her father would burn her broom. Needless to say, she studied harder than she ever had in her entire life, became so stressed she made herself physically ill for weeks on end, and received the best grades she had ever received in her entire life. With that threat, it was needless to say the lowest grade Nina received was an 'A' (and it was only in Care of Magical Creatures, because she didn't have the time to study for it. And while her father was a bit irked with her for it [what with having one of the highest positions in that area in the Ministry], her parents were nothing but proud of her for working so hard).Nina's Sixth Year was, as it was for the entire school, eventful. She lost someone she felt was a good friend when he murdered her best friend's uncle, and the entire school mourned. Thankfully, aside from that tragedy, her year fared well. Her grades were mediocre, only rising when her parents threatened her. She had fun wreaking havoc with her friends, and did a rather good job playing Quidditch. Despite Gryffindor losing in the semi-finals, she was incredibly proud of her team and can't wait to show the other Houses who's boss next year. And besides, Gryffindor placed second in the House Cup, and she is determined her House will win next year. With the beginning of summer comes change, as it always does, and Nina isn't too thrilled. While she is elated to spend time with her family, her father has made her get an internship with the Ministry, working in his department. The internship is seriously cutting into her Quidditch playing time, but what can she do but stick it out. And besides... this is the first summer she's been able to do magic without getting in legal trouble. The possibilities for fun are endless. And who knows what else the summer will have in store?[How Does Your Character Fit Into Their House?:] Nina fits into her House because, and while she may not see it, she is kind and pure of heart. Her abrasive personality doesn’t always show it, but Nina is usually the first person to voice and act upon what she believes in. She is courageous and a strong leader, never being afraid to take action against wrong-doings. She is, by all means, no angel, but will not stand to see her friends and family (or those with no means to defend themselves) be bullied. She may make certain exceptions for her brothers, though.[Writing Sample:]"I know, right?" Nina said, grinning at her best friend, banging her feet on the side of the mattress. "Who knew a Troll and a House-Elf could have children!""I dunno... I don't even think that's possible," Nicole replied, frowning, braiding her hair on her own bed.Nina snickered to herself, averting her eyes downward. Her long hair covered her eyes and her smile. She was obviously joking, but Nicole (one of the smartest girls in the entire Sixth Year) was incredibly gullible. For some strange reason, her and Nina (who was known to have average, or less than average, grades) had been best friends since First Year. They were complete polar opposites, as their differences were never ending. Nicole, for example, didn't even play Quidditch. And Nina hated learning. But Nicole was fascinated by how brooms worked; she loved thinking of ways for Nina to enhance her speed, and that was what initially brought the two together."No," Nicole continued, "It's really not possible. I mean, a Troll-" Nicole started before she was rudely cut off."Nicole, I was kidding. Obviously," Nina said, chuckling. Yup, that was Nicole alright. The Dynamic Duo - like that English Muggle comic book... Birdman and Batty, was it?Nicole retaliated by flinging a huge gold pillow at her face. "Hey!" Nine shouted, picking one up off her bed and flinging it back. Nicole flinched (her arm was pretty strong from Quidditch), but threw another one back. And another. And another. And another. Several minutes later, the pillows had been magicked to fly around the room, pull hair, and squirt water. The last tactic Nina had created, as she knew Nicole was not a fan of getting sprayed with water. Not that Nina was, either, she just tolerated it more than most girls would.Just as one of Nina's pillows had pulled the braid out of Nicole's hair, she felt herself float into the air and then land harshly on a not-so forgiving pile of pillows. "Ow! Nicole!" she yelled, rubbing her sore knee. She had a huge match against Hufflepuff tomorrow, and failure was not an option. Nina had to admit, she was a bit too intense at times, but nothing was more important than Quidditch."Okay, okay. Truce?" Nicole said, walking over to her bruised friend. "Okay," Nina replied - but not before ankle-swiping her friend onto the ground. A couple minutes later, the girls' other two room-mates, Kiera and Ashley, walked in, appalled that the entire room was wet and covered with feathers. Nina and Nicole were tangled up in one another, hastily sending pillows after the other."What are we going to do with those two?" Kiera sighed, shaking her head."I have no id-" Ashley responded, before being hit in the face with a pillow. "Oh, it is on!"[Sum Up Your Character in One Paragraph:] Nina is adventurous, courageous, quick-witted, and confident. She's also brave and bold, and rather pure-hearted. One thing she can't tolerate is ironically, bullying, and while she is confrontational and sometimes abrasive, she knows when to back off. Nina is a monster while playing Quidditch, but a generally sweet person while off it. She is brass, funny, and feisty - the perfect combination, in her own humble opinion. Her passions lie in areas other than her course work, and her main passion is Quidditch. Nina has been prepared for this daunting, albeit exciting, position as she is a natural leader, talented player, and fair.First off, Nina comes from a very large family. Being the fourth child of seven and the eldest girl, Nina has led and been leaded all of her life. When it comes to her three older brothers, Nina is used to being 'bossed around'. From an early age though, she stopped putting up with their bullying and stood up for herself and her intentions that had prompted the bullying. She does not let anyone intimidate her and can tolerate and accept criticism, which is the mark of a good leader. And she knows that yelling and hexing and fighting does not lead to completed goals or victories. It simply leads to chaos. She has learnt throughout the years that speaking in a kind, firm tone gets ones point across better than screaming unnecessarily. On the flip side, Nina is more than okay with taking suggestions. She will execute, for example, a player's idea on a new move, and is thrilled when her players can come up with a move better than she can, as it shows that they are thinking. Finally, Nina promotes respect (something she rarely received form her brothers growing up) and does not allow bullying on her team.Another way Nina has been prepared for this position is her actual ability to play Quidditch. It is something she excels in and takes pride in, and can share her enthusiasm and talents on the pitch with her players. She does such not in a show-offish way, but in a nonchalant and instructing way. Nina does not want to just showcase herself, she wants to showcase her players. One person cannot win a game, as Nina has been taught. Also, Nina was fortunate to be alloted some basic responsibilities by her past captains, and feels that the advice they gave her on leadership, playing, sportsmanship, and motivation is invaluable, and is something she can apply and spread to her teammates.Lastly, and certainly not least, Nina is incredibly fair. As she has three young siblings, she must exercise patience and not show favoritism. This only leads to drama, poor performance, and irritability. Nina applies this notion with her team, as she does not favor her friends over the people she only knows from playing. But because Nina wants to know everyone, she makes the effort to get to know each and everyone of her players, so she can help them if they have any playing or personal problems. [What Do You Think is the Most Important Aspect of This Job?:] If asked this question, Nina would definitely say something to the effect of, "Making sure everyone feels comfortable with one another, that everyone works well together, and that everyone is on the same page as everyone else." Nina feels that everyone needs to play as a team in order to be a good team - she refuses to choose 'MVPs' and the like, as that only promotes competition amongst the team. She loves to tell her players when they are improving or doing something exceptionally well, but does so in a way that is not obnoxious to the other players. Nina also feels teamwork is essential to the victory of any sport, Magical or Muggle. If people are fighting and working poorly with one another, no one will have fun and the team won't succeed.Communication is another thing Nina feels every team must have. Everyone needs to be clear on the rules, the move being learnt, and what needs to be accomplished. If someone is confused throughout several practices and says nothing, come game day they are sure to make a mess of themselves on the Pitch. [Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:]"All right, folks, huddle up," Nina called to her team, casting Sonorus on her voice so she could be hear. Her players were out warming up, and when everyone had landed and met her in the team room she began her spiel for the day."As you can see, Jason isn't here today. His fall yesterday was worse than anyone thought it would be, and they don't think his legs, wrist, and collar bone will be sound for tomorrow's game. This is clearly a problem, but nothing we can't get past. He's given me instructions as to what he thinks will work for the game, but told me that it's pretty much up to us. Does anyone have any thoughts?" Nina said, her tone easy, lips in a loose grin. While Nina was known to be a tad abrasive, she was always calm when it came to Quidditch. Her and her captain, Jason, did not tolerate attitudes, so she toned hers down all the way on the pitch. But while on the outside she was super calm and collected as she spoke to her team, she was really a bit nervous. Jason was quite possibly the best captain the team had had since she joined, and he had been more than willing to let her assist him. But with him out of the picture for the biggest game and leaving her up to doing the leading... well, it was a bit daunting."I got something," Melissa said, getting the quaffle rolling. "I really liked our offense for the game against Ravenclaw. Slytherin has a great offense this season, but a weak defense. Maybe we could strengthen both today so we can-""Slytherin is too strong for us. I think that we need to have a better defense, that way no goals will come in. Sam is a great Keeper, the rest of us have to-" Ben said, cutting Melissa off."Wait, don't put this on me-" Sam started."Guys? Guys?! Hello?" Nina said, shaking her head. "Arguing isn't going to solve anything. I like all of your ideas. We need to stay strong on all parts. Melissa, I agree, I did like our offense against Ravenclaw, and I think that you, me, and Gabby can handle it. What I'm concerned about is our defense, as Jason is a great Beater," she continued, looking around the room, watching all eyes on her."Okay. So what if we keep the offense we've had and work defense today. I mean, I've never played with Charlie before, only practiced with him, so we need to get ourselves synced. If we keep the offense strong, it'll be easier on us Beaters," Ben said, shaking his shaggy blonde hair from his eyes.Nina smiled. "Excellent. Nice combo of ideas," she said. "Get out there, we'll run moves XY1 and C2 first. While we do that, Ben, go out with Charlie. Sam, if you could throw some Bludgers and Quaffles at them, that'd be great."Everyone nodded and went to their respective positions. Nina grabbed her own broom and headed out, sitting with ease on her Cleansweep. "Alright, guys, go!" she shouted to her fellow Chasers, flinging the Quaffle back and forth at rapid speed. If things stayed the way they were, they would have no problems beating Slytherin tomorrow. Maybe this leading thing wasn't as scary as she thought it would be - it was actually pretty awesome. Cardinal, fire, yang - planetary ruler: Mars. Keywords: "I AM"Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and governs the head. Positive characteristics of Aries include courage, enthusiasm, idealism, charisma, quick wits, an ability to "think on one's feet," leadership potential, exuberant energy, zeal, and innocence. Negative traits include selfishness, tactlessness, egocentrism, an inability to save money, impetuousness, a hot temper, combativeness, oversensitivity, carelessness, and cruelty. The Gryffindor Aries is extremely idealistic, and has a tendency to fight hard for many causes - the more lost, the better. Gryffindors born under this sign will also have very short fuses, and can be expected to fight regularly with other students, over ethical questions or over anything else that makes a good excuse. Since Mars is a planet that encourages war games and competition and bursts of hard physical activity, there may be many Quidditch players born under these aspects. A Gryffindor Aries is an open book; a truth potion would never be needed on one, because they are hopelessly honest and open. Skip to next post
[Special Title] Nina Morales Reply #1 on January 22, 2009, 11:10:04 PM Accepted! ~Elle/FaunaQuidditch Captain:[Character Name:] Nina Morales[Title Applying For:] Gryffindor Quidditch Captain[How Has Your Past Prepared You For This Honour?:] While her professors may think she is lazy and unmotivated, Nina Morales is most certainly no slacker. Re: Nina Morales: Seventh Year Gryffindor Reply #3 on August 12, 2009, 10:17:29 PM Nina Morales:Zodiac Signs & Astrology4 April 1991Harry Potter Astrology:Aries (March 21 - April 20) The Ram. These wizards will display uncanny charisma and leadership ability, and will be among the most popular within their class.Astrology Online:On the Light SideAdventurous and energeticPioneering and courageousEnthusiastic and confidentDynamic and quick-wittedOn the Dark SideSelfish and quick-temperedImpulsive and impatientFoolhardy and daredevilLikesActionComing in firstChallengesChampioning CausesSpontaneityDislikesWaiting AroundAdmitting FailureNo oppositionTyrannyOther peoples advice Skip to next post
