[August 8th] A Bump on the Head is Never Good [Altair]

on September 01, 2009, 08:55:55 PM

It had been a long night for Trina Quinn and her few girlfriends she’d been out with.  They’d been at Signature, and a few other places as well.  Now, they’d decided they should probably sober up.  Because of course, most long nights normally involve alcohol of some kind.  And being a Friday night, going to Signature was the in thing to do.  So Trina couldn’t let down appearances and had to go looking fabulous with some of her best friends.  And they’d had quite a bit of fun.

Oh... It’s getting late,” was the thought that was going through Trina Quinn’s head.  She’d started out at Signature with her friends and they’d ended up in the Three Broomsticks. They had decided it would be a good place to try and sober up.  And being the (somewhat) responsible adults they were, they knew not to drink and apparate.  So here they were, munching on some toast and other foods that would help absorb the alcohol.

Head not spinning as much, Trina figured she was getting near the end of her buzz.  Her friends were starting to sober up as well.  They decided it was time for them to go, and they all stood up to say goodbye.  They’d had a fun night, which showed in their smiles as they walked out the door.  Trina wanted to wait a little longer, but didn’t want them to stay out later than they wanted to.  So she stayed and munched on some toast a bit longer.

After a little time had elapsed, Trina figured she would be good enough to go.  But as she stood up and started making her way to the door, her head started spinning again.  Turns out she’d figured wrong and was still a bit tipsy.  Trina lost her footing and started tumbling forward.  She tried turning a bit, and felt the back of her head hit something hard.  As Trina landed on the ground, the only thing she could really feel was the pain in her head.  Trying to sit up, she realized this wasn’t a good idea and just decided to stay on the ground. “Oh that’s no good...”

The hands of the clock finally rested on the ten and the six. It was 10:30 in the evening and it was time for Altair to close his clinic. He said his farewell to his secretary, did one last check on all the animals before telling them it was time for bed, and then put up his coat and exited his building. He'd eventually be back, seeing that he lived on the top floor, but he needed to unwind, grab a drink, and just relax his feet. What better place for that than The Three Broomsticks? He couldn't think of better.

Walking down the street, he said a few 'hellos' to passing people, fellow workers in the Hogsmeade network. He'd actually made a few contacts, considering he was the only magizoologist within walking distance. Actually, the nearest one after him was Diagon Alley, which was considerably far away. So, he was rather pleased he set up his business where people needed it.

He was the the pub finally, and he entered with a happy stride. Though, that stride didn't stay happy for long when someone tumbled into him, their skull slamming square into Altair's jaw. The person landed on the floor, whilst Altair quickly grabbed his jaw, which was bleeding slightly, and cringed to the full extent in pain. "Damn drunkards!" He yelled, getting a few looks.

Looking down, he noticed the person, a female, was still on the floor. Looking closer, he recognized Trina Quinn, a local musician, lying on the floor in a drunken sprawl. "Hell..." He leaned down with his free hand to her to help her. "Come on. Up now, I didn't mean that drunkard remark."

"Damn drunkards!"

Trina heard the words and cringed a bit. Looking over, she realized she hadn’t hit a chair or a table with her head.  Instead, she’d hit the jaw of Altair Gairden.  She’d known him from her years at Hogwarts. Trying to get up, Trina now thought, wasn’t the best idea.  Now instead of only injuring herself of her stupidity, she’d injured someone else as well.

"Hell..." He leaned down with his free hand to her to help her. "Come on. Up now, I didn't mean that drunkard remark."

Accepting his hand, Trina slowly made her way to her feet. Her head still reeled a little, and was still in some pain.  Her free hand went to her head, seeing if it was bleeding.  It wasn’t, but after a look at Altair, she noticed that his jaw was bleeding a bit.  Cursing to herself, she found a seat at a nearby empty table and decided sitting down would be the best option for her.

Despite her head hurting, she knew she’d had it hurt worse.  Trina had many nights where she’d had a little too much to drink and had some massive headaches in the morning.  And then there was the time she played Quidditch and broke her arm. That was pretty painful too.  So Trina knew she’d be all right. She just hoped Altair would be.

“Oh, Merlin, I’m so sorry. I thought I was good to walk, but guess not...” Trina said, hand still on her head. “Are you all right?”

Accepting his hand, he pulled Trina up slowly, and she sat at the nearest table. He took a seat next to her, and motioned to the barkeep to bring him a fire whiskey, heavy on the whiskey. He would need to soothing alcohol after that hit. His jaw had been hit before, sure, on the pitch in school, by a rough man here or there because he didn't live up to their standards of what a man should be, but taking a skull to the jaw was pretty hard.

“Oh, Merlin, I’m so sorry. I thought I was good to walk, but guess not... Are you all right?”

As his drink was given to him, he immediately took a large gulp of it before speaking. "I think I'll be fine. I am, afterall, a doctor, though I'm not sure how much my knowledge in animal medicine will help me." He laughed slightly, took another sip, and then looked her over. "How's your head, darling? I have a rather thick jaw, so I'm sure that had to smart quite a lot." He noticed, though, that he was the only one bleeding in the situation.

Even though he looked all right, Trina was sure Altair’s jaw was hurting.  She thought so even more after he ordered a Firewhiskey.  Trina settled more into her chair and just ordered some water.  Having more alcohol might help the pain, but not her coordination.   She figured that falling over once tonight would be enough.  And Trina disliked the thought of falling into anyone else and hurting them.

"I think I'll be fine. I am, afterall, a doctor, though I'm not sure how much my knowledge in animal medicine will help me."

Trina laughed a little, but stopped when her head protested. “Owww...”

"How's your head, darling? I have a rather thick jaw, so I'm sure that had to smart quite a lot."

“Well, it’s hurting. But I’m sure I’ll live. I’ve had worse hangover headaches...” Trina would have let out a chuckle, but refrained in fear of more head hurting. “Though my head it pretty thick too. And you’re bleeding too! Oh, I really am sorry. It was stupid of me to try and walk and now I’ve hurt you. You’re really all right aren’t you?”

And there came the lots of talking that was usually associated with lots of alcohol in Trina’s system.  And it also came with her feeling bad for having practically broken his jaw. Seeing that he had his Firewhiskey, and she now had her water, she decided to take a drink to stop her from talking much longer.

After downing the fire whiskey, he lifted his fingers up for another. He was rather popular in The Three Broomsticks having lived in Hogsmeade all summer. They all seemed to know him by name, by his clothing, all his little quirks and habits. He was a rather peculiar person afterall.

“Though my head it pretty thick too. And you’re bleeding too! Oh, I really am sorry. It was stupid of me to try and walk and now I’ve hurt you. You’re really all right aren’t you?”

Smiling, he looked her over. "Really, dear, I'm fine. I've had worse, I can assure you. Trust me, I'm a doctor." He laughed at the age-old saying. "I mean, you think every hippogriff I work with is going to politely bow back at me? Oh no, sweetheart." He lifted up the side of his shirt to reveal a portion of his torso. On his right side, he had a large gash going from under his chest to about his naval. "I just got this one yesterday."

His drink was brought out to him as he let his shirt fall back down. Taking a large gulp, the whiskey burned down his throat. His feet set on the table top as he leaned back in his chair, balancing his weight perfectly as to not fall over. "But really, I'm fine. Now, how are feeling? I know that hurt you a great deal, and you'll definitely be feeling that in the morning, but for now, how can I help assess you?"

Trina sipped her water and laughed quietly when Altair said to trust him because he was a doctor.  Yes, he was a doctor, but more for animals than humans.  Then he showed her a gash he’d received on his side from a Hippogriff.  Trina’s eyes widened at the length of it.  Thank goodness he was a doctor then! Otherwise his guts might have been on the floor. Well, if it were that deep.

“Oh Merlin! That looks really bad. So I guess you’ve got to treat yourself sometimes then?” She asked, figuring that he must be skilled in human medicine at least somewhat. And he must not be hurting from it too much by the relaxed position he was in now. Of course, that could also be influenced by the firewhiskey he was drinking

"But really, I'm fine. Now, how are feeling? I know that hurt you a great deal, and you'll definitely be feeling that in the morning, but for now, how can I help assess you?"

“I don’t know. Unless you’ve got something I can put on my head to reduce swelling or something... Otherwise I suppose I can just deal with it.” Trina allowed a small laugh at the end of the sentence.  Though she might need some ice or something, but could always do something whenever she got home.  Trina was certain she might have some kind of a salve or potion to reduce pain if she couldn’t get anything now.
