    Adon Eleor: Auror (DoMLE)

    on August 27, 2009, 12:13:01 AM

Full Character Name Adon Gideon Eleor
    Character Birthday & Age: July 24, 1979; 31
City & Country of Birth: London, England; Dual British-Israeli citizenship
    Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn?: Pureblood
    Alma Mater: Beit Gaddol, Gibbor
    Job: Auror
Wand: Olive, dragon heartstring, 11”, inflexible. It is his third wand of the exact same specifications; his mother insists that this anomaly is explained because never as a wand so embodied its owner. This wand, however unlike his formers, is not knobby but boasts an intricate spiraled pattern that Adon is quite proud of. Perhaps owing to this, he takes slightly better care of it.

    Physical Description
While it is said you cannot read a book by its cover, Adon Eleor may be an exception. Everything from his boyish smile to slight scruff, tousled hair, to scarred face suits him. Adon wears life out.

The most prominent aspect of Adon’s appearance are the scars webbed across the right side of his face—taking a sizeable portion of his right eyebrow, but mercifully sparing his right eye. Once self-conscious of them, Adon has grown accustomed to them.

Rather vain, Adon, he is well aware of the attention he receives on account of his olive complexion and athletic build.  He works hard to maintain these looks, spending significant amounts of time at the gym, indulging in Mixed Martial Arts, as well as required Auror.  Still in the prime of his life, Adon reasons he can afford to be somewhat careless and has a haphazard regimen coupled by days on end of recreational drinking and junk-food consumption, usually coordinated with Quidditch matches.

Adon is not to be seen without his dragonhide jacket (an indulgent present from his elder brother, Dreogan). Beyond this, he dresses simply in t-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes when he is off-duty and the requisite robes-and-bureaucratic clothing when at work.

    Personality Description

With a dynamic personality, Adon has gone through life as his own social hub, attracting friends to him rather than needing to actively seek them out himself. Charismatic and confident, authority figures in the past have dealt lightly with him, owing largely to his ability to talk himself out of trouble and his ability to work hard. He is always, however, closely watched. Governed entirely by his emotions and morals, Adon can be not only exceedingly kind, engaging, and compassionate, but passionate also in his anger, stubbornness, grief, and concern.  He is prone to surliness and moodiness when faced with obstacles, and indignant when the world or those around him do not seem to respect the same values he holds dear.  As a youth, Adon had a marked history of championing lost causes and initiating fights.  In recent years, he has made a diligent attempt at tempering the emotions that govern him.  However, he continues to be a wholly genuine individual—quite incapable of hiding or guarding his emotions.

    History

    Early Life (1979-1990)

Adon Eleor was born as the second son in a Jewish wizarding family in London. With other neighborhood children, he terrorized residents (who unwittingly played the part of Dark Wizard in his elaborate games of make-believe), chased down cats, flew after owls, and hid in the most obscure of places for hours on end, often to scrawl cryptic messages detailing the mysterious goings-on of his neighbors’ suspicious activities. Adon’s parents, amazed at the excessive energy of their son, made him work most summers de-gnoming gardens for menial sums. Surprisingly, Adon loved it and, by age 8 with his brother, had saved enough money for a ride-on broom and his own iguana and was contemplating a neighborhood business.

Such dreams were squashed, however, when the family removed to Israel for his father’s research and to be closer to his elder brother, Dreogan, who now attended the prestigious Beit Gaddol, Israel’s wizarding academy. Adon moved to the Negev desert with his parents, living on a kibbutz and spending his time in much the same way, but now chasing cows, not cats and de-gnoming date farms, not gardens. His mother oversaw his education – as well as the education of all kibbutz youth – and Adon began an early education in potions, coupled with the more basic art of cooking. Age 11 did not come soon enough, and Adon also attended Beit Gaddol. His intrepid nature and sense of mischief easily placed him in Gaddol house, dedicated to fostering the courage and determination of young minds.

Beit Gaddol Years and Father’s Abduction(1990-1997)

It was fortunate that Adon enjoyed learning, as stubborn as he was.  He was active in extra curriculars including snake-charming and broomstick and magic carpet riding and by age 14 was president of the Duelling Club—the youngest president to date. While his strongest subjects had always been Combatting Black Magic, Charms, and Potions, Adon did passably well in Muggle and Runic Studies, but was thrown out of his Divination course for constantly heckling his classmates.

In his third year, Adon’s father went missing. His elder brother, Dreogan, who had previously been one of his most constant friends and helps in school, withdrew from school just before his final year. As things grew tense on the Kibbutz his father had helped found, his mother opted to England to live with her family—insisting that she would still see Adon as frequently as he did before: during the breaks.

Adon, left alone, got in a record twelve fights that year, all with students older than himself and often served as the instigator of these brawls. Adon, charismatic and well-liked by most of his housemates, usually pulled other students in to these brawls, rallying them around him either in defense of his “principles” or a fellow housemate. Adon was sent to the school counselor. By his fourth year, however, the number of annual fights had decreased to only three. By years six and seven, Adon had (miraculously) a clean record save one brawl with his girlfriend, Raizel Cohen, which resulted in a table being set on fire at the school dance.

Between these events, Adon had time to study and did remarkably well, receiving eight C.A.M.L’s (Certified Academic Mage Levels) consisting of six O (outstanding) and two A (acceptable).

Service in the Israeli Defense Force (1997-2005)

Upon graduation, Adon applied for a variety of jobs but did not qualify for any of them, disgracefully failing a character test for the position of Auror. Adon joined the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) rather than choosing to opt out due to religious obligations, as most mages are known to do in Israel.

For the first three years, Adon was stationed in Jenin on the West Bank, which was peppered with frequent small skirmishes. On more than one occasion, in a tight squeeze, Adon utilized various acts of magic, usually wandless, and was obliged to Obliterate the memories from his comrades. Even with their faulty memories, his unit gave him the nickname of “Houdini,” owing to his inexplicable ability to get himself—and others—instantly out of the line of fire.

After his three years of obligatory service, Adon took the opportunity to attend a secular Mechina—an institution teaching leadership, government, ideological and individual identity, philosophy, and Jewish heritage—called Meitzar. Adon enjoyed school more this time around and excelled. He was shortly thereafter vetted to undergo further two-year training to become an officer of the field intelligence forces within Aman, the Israeli Defense Force's intelligence branch, in a unit known as Sayeret Matkal, or simply “the Unit.”  As part of this responsibility, Adon worked once more as a field intelligence-gathering unit, this time conduction deep reconnaissance behind enemy lines.  During these four years, Adon rose to the rank of Segen Mishne, or second lieutenant, commanding a platoon, inspecting any suspicious trade and military and combat activity which might jeopardise the security of the nation. It was during this time Adon first noted an illegal smuggling of Runespoors in the Golan Heights while serving during the Second Lebanon War.  Adon began to remember more keenly the magical community he had left behind but stayed until the end of the conflict with Lebanon. Once that was resolved, however, he began to shift his attention towards the Magical law enforcement efforts in the region.

    Topluluk Attack and Injury (2006)

In April 2006, Adon’s elder brother, Dreogan and his research assistant were on a research trip, which took them for a short time to Jerusalem.  It was the first time Adon had spent a significant amount of time with family since 1997. Adon took off the entire week, thrilled and nervous to spend time with his brother.  While touring around, the three were attacked by a then-unknown group of mages.  In the course of the fighting, it became apparent that the group was after his brother.  They outnumbered the trio, and the research assistant was fatally wounded and Adon himself badly burned by his own fiendfyre, which marred the upper right side of his face.  Shortly thereafter, Adon resigned from his position in the IDF and moved to Jerusalem to recover.  It was a fortunate arrangement in an otherwise difficult situation; Dreogan quit his teaching position in America, instead moving to the British Ministry of Magic, where he became an international diplomat to the Near East.  During Dreogan’s frequent visits to Jerusalem, the brothers were able to share an apartment and repair their relationship.

    Life as an Auror (2007-Present)

During this difficult year, Adon learned to accept his new face and his limits.  After receiving encouragement from the Near Eastern Auror’s office, Adon once more applied for a position as an Auror trainee and was accepted.  This did not particularly add to Adon’s sense of humility; the transition from Aman to the Auror's office was smooth enough, and Adon was generally respected for his expertise in reconnaissance, combat, and language, as well as for his years commanding in the military. He used this opportunity to seek answers to his father’s disappearance and the attack on his brother, learning that both were perpetuated by the same group: a Turkish smuggling gang called Topluluk.  Both cases went cold, and Adon was assigned to other, more “productive” work.

The years were some of his happiest: he was regarded in the office as a dueling prodigy – though he was mostly placed behind a desk during investigations due to continued anger management issues, and he entered into a serious relationship with his coworker, analyst Thea Nurin. Fearing his family’s disapproval of his Palestinian girlfriend, Adon never told his brother or mother of these developments in his life and things progressed smoothly and evenly, albeit slowly.

Things took a turn, however, as the Runespoor case he and his partner had been investigating had an unanticipated link to a Diagon Alley appearance. Sensing he might need to remove to London, Adon proposed to Thea Nurin who accepted hesitantly. As Muslim and Israeli citizens are not allowed to marry in Israel (lest Thea lose her citizenship), Adon proposed they make the move to London permanent. Thea could not accept the estrangement from her family and, six hours later, changed her mind. Adon carried on his course. Two months short of completing his training, Adon requested to work with the British Ministry of Magic to trace down the illegal trade there. An agreement was reached between both Ministries and Adon would complete his training simultaneously with his investigation.

    The Death Prophecy (2009-2010)

Now in London permanently, Dreogan, a seer, shared with his younger brother a disturbing dream he had been having for several months: Adon Eleor, dead at the hands of Topluluk, trying once more to save his brother.  The knowledge of this was upsetting, and set Adon on a frenzied chase to track down Topluluk and its affiliates before they could strike his family once again, perhaps triggering the events that would lead to Adon’s death.

Despite efforts, Dreogan Eleor was kidnapped and Adon moved back to Jerusalem to better conduct the search.  The Jerusalem Office, not appreciative of his interference, sent him back after a time to London.  By early September, his brother had been recovered, the threat of Topluluk quelled, and after a 3 month leave of absence, Adon has returned to the London Auror Corps.

Adon had never been good with names. And today, as his first day, it was very important to make a good first impression. He had read up on the notables in the office and even made cards. He suspected, however, that this would not prove sufficient. Still, he had not had anything to drink the previous night, though all his friends had gotten together to watch the most recent Puddlemere match. He had even ironed his clothes, though he had, at about 10:03 pm Sunday, needed to purchase an iron though he swore he had had one.

He was diligent in taking mental note, asking questions, and repeating every name as Senior Lucient Essan Kharuf showed him around the office, from the conference room to the questioning room to the break room to his . . . cubicle.

Kharuf, with a flourish, motioned about the expanse. “Well, I’ll leave you to it. I’ll come back in an hour after my meeting to discuss some specifics. Until then, there is paperwork—“ he stabbed his finger at a pile much to high on his desk. As he heard Kharuf’s steps fade, Adon cracked his knuckles, surveying the place once more. It was smaller than the one he had been using the past five years in his previous job as a researcher at the Israeli magical thinktank, but he was told he would not be in it much. Dropping his briefcase on the floor, he lowered himself into the leather chair, testing its softness. He leaned back, cringing at the grating rasp it made as he did so. He hissed between his teeth. “Rhazes!”  This would not do.

The cubicle next to him was currently empty, though the potted plant, Persian rug, and levitating chandelier hovering in the space above implied that someone had taken the effort to furnish it nicely. Adon smirked and rose from his seat – again, cringing as it groaned almost humanly in protest of such abuse – and dragged it across the walkway.

By good fortune, the interior designer’s chair appeared just like his. Grabbing it and carrying it back to his cubicle, he settled down comfortably. This time, there was no voice of protest from either chair or Adon. He smiled blissfully and dipped his quill in his inkwell.

A shadow fell across his paperwork shortly after he had finished page eighteen. “Interns get the squealing chair,” came a soft yet hard voice. He swiveled in his chair to see . . . well, he had never been good with names. But it was her, alright. The same dark eyes, full lips and fantastic legs. “And hi,” she added.

“That so?” he smirking. “Interns are people, too.” He smiled more broadly now, but she just stood there, waiting.

Waiting for what? Adon swallowed, still smiling, waiting for the effect of his charm to work. When it did not, he shifted in his chair. “Uh. . . you can have it back.”

“You didn’t expect to see me.”

What was she, a legilimens? “No, of course I did. And it’s good to see you.” Adon said with a smile. When she frowned and folded her arms, he was beginning to suspect that, yes, he was abominably bad with names. “Well, perhaps a bit surprised, yeh.”

“You probably never expected to see me again.” Shit. Adon wet his lips and rose in his seat. He did not like her hovering over him like this. “Well, Mister Eleor?”

    “Look. . . I wanted to see you again. Really. It’s only been a week, after all. And. . . Well, I mean, we’re co-workers now. So. . .”

“Well, you seem surprised to see me here. Which makes me think, perhaps, you might  have missed that little detail. Convenient of you to bring it up now, though. I wonder what else you might have forgotten.”

Adon swallowed once more. Why did everyone in the office have to button the top button? He would have much rathered it be looser.

    “Like my name, perhaps?”

“No! I. . .” There was no defending against this one. Adon had learned through painful experience when there were battles beyond his abilities. “It did all get a bit blurry after the third drink.”

Thea arched a brow. “I regret to inform you, Mister Eleor: the drinks you had that night at my cousin’s house were non-alcoholic.”

Adon ran his tongue over his teeth as he fished for a rebuttal. “Huh,” he managed at last. “That so?” Brilliant, Eleor.

Thea. The name is Thea. Thea Nurin.”

Adon’s smile grew sheepish. Watching her in a sort of terrible fascination, he hadn’t known a complexion that olive could get that red. “At least I didn’t call you Thiddy like your brothers.”

The look of astonishment that replaced the fury was vastly preferable, Adon decided and his smirk was smugly affixed.

“How can you remember that of all things?”

“Oh, that’s easy," he said lazily. "I always remember the embarrassing things first. I imagine I'll remember today for a long, long time.”

Sum Up Your Character in One Paragraph

A dedicated and passionate individual, Adon Eleor works hard to become an independent person and force for good in society. Previously impulsive, since a fight which left him badly scarred, Adon has become more cautious and less willing to jump into a situation before assessing. His humor makes him a valuable and good companion and his passion and devotion make him an even better friend. Nevertheless, Adon's quest for independence sometimes drives him away from others. Not one for introspection, however, Adon is more likely to spend time doing, rather than thinking.

    Adon Gideon Eleor -- Auror

    Accepted! ~Elle

    [Character Name:] Adon Gideon Eleor
[Previous Position:] Auror-in-Training (London), Lucient (Auror Analyst, Jerusalem)
    [Position Applying For:] Auror
    [Link to Accepted Biography:] biography

[Why have you chosen to change careers?:] After three and a half years of training (beyond the traditional three years), Adon is more than due for a promotion. The shift between offices has caused a bit of a setback in traditional advancement, as it was formerly uncertain whose office he was reporting to, how soon he would be returning to Jerusalem, and who would give the advancement.
    What is your job description?
How do you go about your job?
How did you get your current job?
How does your past and abilities justify your current position?:

Formerly a Lucient (analyst), Adon is now a full-fledged Auror, meaning he is also placed at times on active field duty. His experience in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) and, within this organisation, Aman (the military intelligence directorate), have prepared him for field duty. Prior to enlisting as an Auror in Jerusalem, he underwent two years military service and knows how to use a wand, gun, and defensive martial arts (Krav Maga). After his time in the IDF, he served as a research analyst and consultant for the government as part of a thinktank, analysing border movement and trade and potential diplomatic solutions.
After a street fight which received much press attention, Adon was noticed for his combative abilities and was recruited by the Auror office in Jerusalem, where he became a leading analyst. He underwent the traditional three-year training period but, due to age and highly specialised, professionalised experience, was already being entrusted with higher-up responsibilities being, in truth, only nominally "in-training."
Now in London, Adon has lead the investigation of one case and serves as international liason and investigator for the Runespoor smuggling case. When it became apparent he would not be returning to Jerusalem any time soon to receive his promotion, Raynor made him an Auror in early October.
Adon's responsibilities are primarily analytical and investigative, but he has, since arriving at the London office, been more present not only at crime-scenes but also in quelling conflicts. With approximately 10 years of directly pertinent experience, Adon enters the position of Auror as an already well-seasoned analyst and legal enforcer.
