    Physical Description:

Eddie’s scuffy blonde hair hasn’t changed much since when he was in school and gave up styling it. He tends to wear it as it comes, short and spiking out in most directions. When making a bit of effort it looks better but that rarely happens. Green piercing eyes accompany the shaggy mane of hair and these eyes can normally get him what he wants from most people.

Normally Edward can be seen with short stubble. This is for two reasons. He is too lazy to shave daily and he likes looking a little rougher than most, plus his wife used to like it. Besides, the stubble is something he can rub when in thought.

Edward isn’t exactly a big guy. He is tall, but not too largely built. He reaches 5 foot 11 and has built his muscles up over the years with work but he is in no way a body builder. He does however have a small collection of scars caused by various things. These include one on his leg where a beam fell on him and a few on his chest.

As a man that likes to look good, Eddie tends to make sure his clothes do just that. He tends to wear dark shirts and baggy jeans when not working. When at work he proudly spots the auror robes, a shirt and trousers.

    Personality Description:

Eddie likes people. He likes being surrounded by people and he likes getting people to laugh at other people. He has never been a loner but when he gets angry many people leave him alone because he can get violent. He has a foul temper and often a short fuse, something he can thanks his mother for.

This temper has more than often been displayed in front of his family although the man tried very hard to stop that from happening. His ex-wife has always had the ability of winding him up and he knows that she plays on that a lot. Unfortunately, he falls prey to the bait. Edward has never, however, hit her or his children. He’s simply thrown and smashed things up.

Being from the north of England, Eddie has a thick Yorkshire accent and although as he child he found it embarrassing, he’s now embraced it. It sets him apart from most people and makes him unique, something he’s always craved.

Confidence and arrogance may shoot off Eddie in waves when he is surrounded by people. And some may comment how he acts like a player. He likes ladies and he likes looking at them. But he loves his wife/exwife (although he definitely doesn’t say it enough) and would never cheat on her like that. Besides, he’s a little too scared of her and wants to keep his manhood in tact.

    History:

Charlie and Brooke Pratt’s lives were hectic with their young son, Daniel. But in the year 1977 they found they’d be facing a lot more trauma and their lives would be more hectic as they were expecting another. Edward Pratt was born on the 19th September that year, after 10 hours of labour. Charlie held his son and looked down at him, his broken hand throbbing and his eyes watering. Brooke hadn’t known if that was the pain he was in from her crushing his hand or the emotion of seeing his newborn.

Interestingly, Charlie’s left hand never worked the same again. And he needed it when it came to controlling the little hurricane as he tore through the house on wobbly legs and crashed into anything blocking his way. Eddie Pratt had always been a lively boy, and in his younger years he’d been seemingly impossible to handle.

Things didn’t get any easier when he grew older. Edward was lively and he certainly kept his parents on their toes. At the age of four, when bouncing on his bed, he’d fallen through the window and amazingly had been suspended in mid air. That was the first sign of his magic. This was followed up by several others which terrified his parents and delighted his older brother.

The young boy was sorted into Slytherin with no problem, and the cheeky boy instantly got on the wrong side of many teachers while sucking up to the ‘important ones’. Of course Edward had to deal with an older brother in Hufflepuff, although he denied family relations.

As Eddie has moved through the last few years of his school life, he gained many friends and he moved around the school as part of a pack, usually. One friend in particular was a special one. He had been best friends with Quincy StJames from their first year and this friendship developed greatly, although they had their issues. As Edward got older, he started to like Quincy in other ways and apparently, she felt the same. During their sixth year at Hogwarts, they ended up dating.

The couple stayed together for another 15 years and it never became clear when they started to ‘love’ each other because the word was very rarely brought up around them (if ever). It was just accepted. Straight after school, the couple started to travel around the world (not on money of their own).

Upon their arrival back in England, Quincy started to train to become a healer, something she’d always wanted to do. Edward, however, believed her bedside manner would definitely need work. But while she did this, Eddie seemed to be quite lazy. He was ‘chasing’ his dream to become a professional Quidditch player, but with a sleazy agent and a gap since his school years when he was very good at it, he struggled to get himself on any team. Edward always blamed the agent.

At the age of 21, Eddie received the shock of his life. His girlfriend was pregnant. Words to the effect of “Does that mean a baby?” came from his lips. He didn’t need an anatomy lesson, but did need a very large firewhiskey and a sit down.

Obviously Edward now needed a job. He had to support his family since Quincy couldn’t work at the end of her pregnancy. This was the point that he tossed away his dream to be famous and rich and started training as an auror. He had the grades, just not bundles of ambition. Being an auror has always been a job that, although he is good at it, simply pays the bills.

“So I should marry you then, I guess?” Was one of the questions the confused boy (yes boy, he’d still been very immature) had asked after having the bombshell dropped. So it happened. It would have been the perfect shotgun wedding had Quincy’s parents not forked out for the whole thing. Although Edward did think his ‘wife’ had looked truly beautiful in that white dress. He watched her down the aisle while his jaw dropped and mouth insisted on catching flies.

After much coercion, Quincy agreed to move up to Yorkshire, to Eddie’s roots. Things were cheaper there and he wanted them to live somewhere where they could do magic without raising any suspicion. A small cottage in Easingwold was decided on and Eddie has a feeling Quincy has resented him for it ever since.

Quincy became a stay at home mum and Edward trained during the war, ending up in many dodgy situations. He found himself injured many times, yet he seemed to bounce back quickly after a little TLC from the wifey. Unfortunately, his brother (who had been a full auror) hadn’t been so lucky and wound up in St Mungo’s for permanent spell damage. Edward only visits occasionally and very reluctantly.

Once Edward had become a fully qualified Auror, he and Quincy started planning their second child. They had more money now and he, although he wasn’t going to tell her, wanted a child that looked like him. Noah Edward Pratt, born in the 1998 had slowly grown up with both his mum’s eyes and nose!

In 2001, Natasha Marie Pratt was born and Edward had put up with more hell from his pregnant wife than before. Hormones really did turn a woman into a vicious dragon. He could have sworn he’d seen her breathe fire!

Edward continued with his job and looked forward to coming home to his tea, slippers and a lovely cup of coffee. Unfortunately this didn’t always happen. Apparently looking after kids was a full time job. Edward disagreed and he and Quincy had many an argument. He didn’t actually realise she was getting quite depressed.

In 2006, the third child was born. Both spouses believed this baby would stop their arguments. Charlie Alexander Pratt finally had his daddy’s blonde hair and Edward was at last satisfied. He looked down at his son in awe and it was well worth nearly having his hand crushed in the process.

After Charlie’s birth, the arguments seemed to get worse so Edward began to stay out with friends more after work. Then one day when Edward returned home from work, he found his bags had been packed and sat by the door. He never knew exactly why this had happened but after talking with family friends, he found Quincy had been convinced he’d had an affair. Edward had been stunned. Sure, he flirted with other women and liked looking at them but he would never have done anything like that to his wife and kids. He actually loved them.

Even after begging her to take him back, Quincy refused and asked for a divorce. Edward resisted for as long as he could, insisting he’d never done such a thing, yet her mind was made up. The divorce and his exwife completely cleared him out and he was forced to move back in with his parents.

What is your job description? How do you go about your job?
How did you get your current job? How does your past and abilities justify your current position?:

Enforcing the law. Edward believes that it is important to maintain order and make the public feel safe, however much the press and other people cause that to not happen. Although there is a lot of paperwork, he believes that the most important part of the job is ensuring that people are safe and that those preventing the safety and endangering people or breaking the law, are sorted out, arresting them or doing what he believes is necessary, however much he doesn’t do it by the book.

Edward got his job thanks to his school grades and determination he showed. Being an auror wasn’t the job he wanted most in the world, but when he knew it was the best one for him, given the circumstances, he worked hard at it. Eddie doesn’t like failing at what he does. Being an auror made a lot of sense because of how, during school, Edward had always excelled at Defence Against the Dark Arts.

    Writing Sample:
Show your character in a scene that illustrates the best and worst aspects
of their personality. Include action, dialog and thought.

Glad the day was over and looking forward to a relaxing evening with Quincy and maybe a bit more, Eddie pushed open their front door, a bouquet of flowers held in his hand. They’d been arguing recently and this was his attempt at an apology. A feeble one. But an attempt nonetheless.
“I’m home, dar-.” He didn’t get to finish before he was blown viciously back into the door and winded by a heavy suitcase being blasted at his chest. His eyes widened and he, by some miracle, found time to dodge another one. “What are you doin’ woman!?”

From the top of the stairs came the voice of his wife. “You must think I was born yesterday!" She stood on the landing glaring down at him like some demon and Eddie wouldn’t have been surprised if she suddenly grew wings and flew right at him to bite his head off with the look she was giving him.

Eddie’s frown deepened as he had to practically jump down to his knees while a pair of his shoes came soaring at his head. Not his wife, thank god. He wasn’t thinking straight now. “I ‘ent missed your birthday have I?” he asked, unconvinced now that it wasn’t for a few months yet. And this was a bit of an extreme reaction to his forgetfulness in his opinion! She wasn’t pregnant again was she?

“My birthday!?” Came the screech and Eddie winced slightly as he looked up at her. Thank god, she’d stopped throwing things. When his eyes glanced over his tormentor properly, no matter the situation at the moment, his jaw dropped. She really was fit and she could make him do anything in that outfit, but he knew this probably wasn’t the best time to tell her that.

His mouth was about to open in…apology. Maybe then she’d still do her usual thing with that nurse’s outfit. “Is that your idea of a joke? You think I’d be acting like this if you missed my birthday!?” After this comment coming from the angry witch, Ed became well aware that he’d be receiving a different treatment tonight.

He glanced down at the flowers in his hand before lifting them up. “I…got held up at work.” It was lucky she wasn’t close enough to smell the alcohol on his breath. He couldn’t have helped being four hours late! She knew he was no good with timing. Edward watched in horror as the flowers in his hands ripped up and fell to the floor. They’d cost quite a bit! He dropped them to the floor and looked up at her, his teeth gritted tight. What the hell was wrong with her? He was only a bit late home!

"Don't lie to me." Eddie watched as his wife lowered her wand and spoke softly. His frown deepened even more. Was she crying? “I…I’ve been to the pub.” He said cautiously. “I’m…sorry, babe.” Edward NEVER apologised.

And with good reason two. He watched his wife look away from him and bit his lip. What had he done? He’d only had a few drinks with his mates. If she’d have told him she was going to be wearing that…well, he’d have tried to get off work early. But no and now his case was being sent down the stairs to him. Now he was puzzled and he stared at the case, starting to get angry.

“Let me get the door for you.”

Sum up your character in one paragraph:

Edward is a kind hearted guy with a vicious temper. He is a joker and a pranker and enjoys being around people. His recent divorce had left him broke and living with his parents and yet he is still trying to win back the heart of his ex-wife.

    Pratt's Knoll Cottage
    Heavencrest Lane
    Ugglebarnby

Situated at the end of a quiet lane just outside of the small muggle village of Ugglebarnby, Pratt’s Knoll cottage is perfect for keeping away from those prying eyes. The garden backs onto the open countryside and allows for as many Quidditch games as Eddie and the kids wish.  Terrible at keeping the garden gnomes at bay is the newest addition to the household being Winston the puppy.

Having lived in the cottage for a large portion of his own childhood and inheriting the home from his parents, Eddie has changed barely any of the surroundings, instead deciding to keep it as homely and full of memories as it always has been.

    Previous Job/Position: Auror
Position Applying For: Head of the Auror Office

Why have you chosen to change careers?:
With Tamis Raynor the former head of the auror office having been promoted to the Head of Department, the position opened up. While Eddie isn't a big fan of paperwork, he does recognise that the department are in need a leader and he is a natural leader and a personable wizard. He feels that now is the time for him to step up and take more responsibility in addition to earning a much healthier salary that can help support him and his kids. For years he’d put off being promoted to a senior auror despite his dedication to the force due to the change in job description but now he feels he is ready for a different challenge.

Elaborate on your expertise in this new field:
Pratt has in fact done this job before while Raynor was in hospital for a few weeks and he took it as success that the office was still standing and no had died. He’s been an auror for over a decade now and has dedicated nearly all of his waking hours to the job (to the detriment of his marriage and any other romantic relationships he’s tried to have in the past). For the past two years Eddie has put in hours above and beyond the regular and feels he is ready to step into this new position.

People often believe that Eddie isn’t particularly smart. They take one look at the disaster of his personal life and presume his work life must be a mirror of this. However, he is and always has been an excellent auror. One of the best in the corps. He is smart and a quick learner and he reads people extremely well.

Describe your new job and how you go about doing it:
For years Ed thought that all the Head Auror’s job was to sit behind a desk under mountains of paperwork and boss the aurors around. Now while much of that is true, he also recognises the more important aspects. The Head Auror is responsible for the aurors under his direction.  He needs to oversee the wellbeing and work of these aurors as well as the cases they are working on. He also needs to cooperate well with other offices within the department and the Head of the Department as well.

Pratt feels nervous about going into this new job but feels confident he can make it work. He will be putting in a huge amount of hours and work in order to keep the office running as smoothly as his predecessor. While not the type of person to accept advice, Eddie will gladly take it when trying to run this office. He will make some vital changes that he believes need to be made but also in order to put his stamp on an office that for six years was run by a formidable woman. He begrudgingly accepts that there are big shoes to fill and he isn’t necessarily going to succeed immediately but he will plough on to gain the respect of his colleagues in this new position.

Ed will have a hard time toning down his stupid joking side sometimes but he can be serious when he needs to and will be as often as he can in his role as Head Auror.

Why have you chosen to change careers?:
Pratt felt cherry picked and somewhat pushed into the role of Head Auror due to his superior's belief that he was the man for the job. And while he has given it his best go, his heart isn't in it when he has to stay behind a desk and give orders. Edward is a practical man hwo likes practical solutions and the position of Head Auror didn't gel with this. He is a man who struggles with authority above him and even more with leading those below him as an authority figure. He is a team player rather than a born leader.

Elaborate on your expertise in this new field:
He has been an auror for over a decade and the Head Auror for over 6 months.

Why have you chosen to change careers?:
Despite handing in his resignation from the post to Carstairs and the announcement being made across the ministry, no one has been hired for the position of Head Auror. Pratt agreed to remain in the post until a suitable replacement was found but it seems like their department head has been in no rush to replace him. As time moves on it becomes clearer that Eddie is destined to remain the head auror and not truly gain the demotion he was looking for. While for months he has remained in the post of acting head auror, he has resigned himself to the fact that he won't be replaced anytime soon. Besides, despite his own opinion, he is well suited to the job.

Elaborate on your expertise in this new field:
He's been doing the job for nearly a year despite trying to resign. He has been an auror for over a decade and is one of the best.
