SLANDERMOUTH - An unidentified unspeakable was detained last night for sending cursed slippers to a colleague as a birthday present.
The victim, fellow unspeakable
Jasper Limrick, 53 (brother of
Jesper, of Zonko’s), received a pair of slippers for his insignificant birthday from who he believed was a good friend and colleague. He wore the slippers for the first time the following day but ended up rushing to St Mungo’s Hospital as his foot was alight.
“Nothing could put it out!” Described Limrick’s partner, Rufus Childs, 51. “Not counter-curses, charms, not even water. Jasper’s foot was transformed to a hot ember.” The foot initially had the best of St Mungo’s Healers baffled, until the slippers were summoned for inspection.
“Stitched inside were malicious runes!” Limrick explained from his St Mungo’s bed where he is recovering from the ordeal. “You can never be too careful with enchanted gifts,” Limrick advises readers, “it’s a fine line between toasty feet and roasted feet.” Limrick is to receive specialist treatment to restore his foot, where it is hoped he may make a full recovery.
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement were unable to comment other than to confirm enquiries continue. “Naturally one can’t speak further about the business of unspeakables,” explained a source who wished to remain anonymous, “but we’re all glad this was just a case of slippers and nothing worse.”
