[30 Mar] A Cluttered Mind

on July 02, 2021, 09:42:27 PM

30 March 2012
9am, Friday
Auror Headquarters
Level Two, Ministry of Magic

Senior Auror Zora Roh had spent relatively little time in the Aurors' bullpen in the last few weeks. She'd been endlessly in the field and what felt like longer in the Wizengamot's corridors and offices. That was the trouble with closing cases - the true paperwork began. There were depositions, hearings, interviews, and endless reports refiled with multiple lawyers. And all the time Zora was meant to be supervision the greener Aurors in same.

On such a morning that she was actually in the honeycomb of desks and cubicles for more than a breath, Zora came upon something so rage-making that she had to remove her sunglasses to massage the sudden migraine out from between her eyes. It was the desks of Moore and Hericho. It looked like a Theodora Kingstreet crime scene there was so much paperwork spread about. In addition, there were spare Auror robes with holes burnt in and used dishes. Zora knew that the young Aurors and Trainees thought it admirable to practically live at work, but this?

She chanced shuffling through it only to find in the second layer of neglected strata a priority report that had been missing for a week and was eventually redone.

"Moore! Hericho! What the bloody hell is wrong with you!" she barked into the room. They'd better be present, for their sakes.

There was me, desperately trying to use the coffee machine that was right there in the Auror's Office, but don't matter how hard y try, it's seems that this thing doesn't want to collaborate... I can imagine how mad would be my dad being a muggle who loves the instant coffee

"Come on, you stupid... Thing, work!" I said to the machine, as if my words have any use with an inanimate object "how this thing even works?" I asked to the air... Hoping that someone would try to help me.

But there was no response, besides that i hear at the distance someone who was screaming my name with a very angry tone of voice, I recognized that voice I slowly turned my face, looking for the person who apparently called me, I immediately stifled a scream when I recognized Miss Roh, I know what is going to happen now... But I don't really wanted to see it.

With the velocity of a bullet I went directly to my desk trying to look absolutely fine but in my inners I was almost crying, rapidly I tried to hide my desk with my body at the same time I said, with a broken voice.

"He-hey Miss Roh-Roh... Ho-how are you doing today? Caching th... The bad boys and stuff?" I said, trying to make my best impression of me being very calm and like nothing happened here but for some reason Miss Roh makes me feel scared... VERY scared.

She awoke with the shouting, she wasn't quite sure how long she had been asleep for, likely longer then was healthy on a desk. why were people shouting at her? Had she accidentally set fire to something in her sleep? She hoped she hadn't done so again, that'd be unfortunate, especially at work, she might get fired for it, or worse, have a stern talking to.

Upon clearing the gunk from her eyes and sitting up she was very much relieved to see that nothing had been set on fire, no smell of smoke or anything right now. Just her desk, and it seemed an angry Zora coming at her, this would not be good would it? This could be getting told off, perhaps she was to be fired and finally get some sleep, or perhaps she just wanted to shout and curse at people.

She sleepily collected the energy drink bottles and cans off her desk as she looked over the stacks of paperwork, she wasn't doing terribly by any means, to others her desk may seem wildly unorganized with folders and reports scattered everywhere. But to Gris, it was just unorganized with the reports and folders placed in the wrong areas currently. Likely a result of her late night getting worse as time went on , getting more tired and worn down from the the constant hours, she was pulling something like 20 hours last she remembered...

"Quite alot Ma'am. But I'm interested in what you currently think is wrong." She yawned as she turned around to face her, clearing the odd thirty cans and bottles of water or energy drinks from the previous night into a bin from her desk. If it wasn't too late in the day she should try to get something to eat, a burger sounded good, she wondered if any were open right now...or what time it even was, it was hard to tell so far underground in a dingy office.

And the two miscreants appeared:  Moore (trying to play innocent), and Hericho (trying to suck up). Neither strategy would do much to calm Zora's vexation.

"That's Auror Roh to you," Zora said, stabbing a finger at Moore. She was well aware her name was a tongue-twister but she'd worked too hard for people to still be fouling it up, especially brand new baby Aurors.

"This report is a week old!" she snapped waving the paper-clipped stack of papers in Hericho's face first then flinging it towards Moore. Of course, the pages just erupted into a gently and wholly unsatisfying flutter, like guilty leaves, none of Zora's wrath satisfied by the gesture.

"What happens when reports don't get filed?" she demanded of either of them. Or both of them. Whichever one was crazy enough to try to answer.

And then, the bomb exploded right into my face, I closed my eyes with fear at the same time that Miss Roh pointed at me with his finger yelling, very angry, of how I called her, for a brief moment I believed that she was using her wand to threaten me, I gulped, while slowly opened my eyes seeing that she was only pointing me with his finger.

"I'm sorry, Auror Roh" I said... In another situation I probably called her Roh-Roh again... But it wasn't moment to making her even more angry, so I swallow my words.

When Miss Roh show me that file I, once again gulped with fear i totally forgot to do the paperwork of the last week I knew that going to the Falmouth Falcons' Quidditch match wasn't my best decision, then when I heard the question that Miss Roh said to the air I with a broken voice I said.

"Ah... I suppose th-that they don't... Get filed...?" I said more like a question that an answer, I once again closed my eyes expecting the biggest yell that Miss Roh made in his life.

Gris couldn't help but sigh as the paperwork was thrown, she'd admittedly forgotten about that one, with a swift movement of her wand she had it collecting back neatly and moving over to her desk so it wouldn't take hours to sort it back up together again.

If she was complaining about the place being messy, least she can do is not make a bigger mess right? That seemed like a fairly good thing to do, not throw around peoples work for them to clean up as you yell at them. Just sounded rude honestly.

She quickly rifled through the pages to ensure they were all still together and none was missing from them, doing her best to block out the worst of the shouting but enough so she was aware of when she was being shouted at, wouldn't want to upset the poor woman even more now would she? Might give the old lady a heart attack if her blood pressure levels get too high over the millennials.

"If they don't get filed there is a chance you'll come barging over to my desk and throw the papers about, making it harder to file them or get work done as you spend time screaming?" She said quietly, but above a mumble.

Well, thank Merlin, Moore knew the Basic Rule of Paperwork, even if he didn't seem confident about it. But trainee Hericho wasn't as smart with her answer. Zora crossed her arms and shrugged.

"Congratulations, Hericho. That's double shifts for a week," Zora said. "In the file room."

A smartass Trainee was about as useful as a candyfloss paperweight. Junior Aurors needed to be able to follow orders at the drop of a wand without question, without second guessing. Being mouthy in the bullpen was not a stop on that journey.

"And when reports don't get filed," she continued, "evidence gets lost, cases get botched, leads go cold, and shite rolls uphill around here. It's my ass when the Wizengamot dismisses a case due to lost paperwork. Do you understand?"
