(March 16) Walking My Way?

on June 09, 2021, 07:08:16 AM

Yesterday had been considerably warmer and the sudden drop in temperature had thrown her completely. Normally her excitement in class over whatever magical creature that they were learning about would have been enough to distract her from the discomfort of being so cold, but flobberworms were hardly the most stimulating topic to keep one's attention in the first place. They were ugly,  boring and disgustingly large, although surprisingly useful . Their one redeeming feature was that they could be used in various potions. This was the first time that she'd seen live ones up close though which she couldn't decide if it had been a good or bad thing.

Other than that fact they had been entirely uninspiring and had done little to take her mind off of being cold as her cheeks and nose took on a decidedly rosy tint. By the time the class had ended she was chilled to the bone, having gotten distracted reading before class and had rushed outside without her scarf or gloves, unprepared for the surprising chill in the air. As the class began to dissipate she grabbed her satchel and hurried back towards the castle, intent on warming up and maybe getting some hot chocolate or a steaming cup of tea to drink. Anything to warm her up. For once she was grateful not to have another class outdoors. Normally she loved it, but her forgetfulness today had her more than eager to get inside and stay there.

The chilly day had been annoying for her, she didn't really care for the cold, not that she often felt it, she was rather good with the cold after all, she went swimming in the great lake when it was freezing cold, although she had ways of managing that and you adapted to the cold of the lake after a short while, as long as you didn't dive in. She almost needed saving by the Giant Squid in the lake before...not that she'd told anyone about it of course.

Class had been boring, some worm junk, sure they were for potions but that was a rather dull subject in another cold area of the castle, she'd barely found any interesting potions, even making some with Eirene hadn't been interesting, beign with Eirene was but the potions were so dull. In the end she used the potion to spike the punch at the valentines party but that was boring in the end also.

She looked over the fields of Hogwarts, she longed to just run, she could right now, but ultimately it was pointless, she knew she couldn't escape right now, and even if she tried, it just meant she wouldn't be trusted and would have a harder time when she did truly try to run...Although with the upcoming protest in Hogsmeade perhaps it was all for the best really, that was...going to be a mess.

As she walked along she gently flicked the tip of her wand, causing a flame to start burning out of the tip.

"Yeah I get it..." She mumbled to her wand before flicking it again, slumping down onto the grass, she couldn't be bothered with any other lessons for the day really.

She was in a hurry to get inside, but she caught sight of Lucinda flopping down on the grass. She couldn't tell if she was just bored or upset about something. Cold as she had gotten, she couldn't imagine lingering outside because of boredom, which meant that it might be the latter. Lucinda was not part of her house, but she was a forth year too and they were in pretty much every class together. Even if that were not the case, Charlie knew that she'd at least check on her, or anyone that seemed out of sorts, unless there was something really pressing calling her away. Getting herself warm was not that pressing, all in all. "Hey there Lucinda! You all right?" She couldn't help but watch the little flame on the end of the other girl's wand. Probably not very warm, but still very nice!

She flinched as she heard the person shout at her, she snapped around to look at who it was, some blonde student, she didn't have the greatest track record with blonds...not since she sort of punched Allura, in her defense, Allura did deserve it and she didn't regret it. But still it wasn't something she really...was sure if she could put up with at this very moment.

"Oh...um...Charline right?" She asked gently as she shifted, smoothing her skirt down a bit as she relaxed more on the ground, idly twirling her wand about in her hand as she looked up at the other girl from her position.

"I'm fine...I guess, why do you really care?" She asked in return, not exactly trying to sound rude back at her but more in...why would Charline care at all? Was she in SAWS? She couldn't quite remember, if so then most likely...she just felt sorry for her and was asking out of pity at the fact she was a werewolf.

She saw the other girl flinch, but wasn't quite sure why. Maybe she really did just want to be alone? She almost decided to just give her a wave and head off when she said that she was okay, but she knew that she'd worry and wonder and she could leave straight away if that was what Lucinda really wanted. She'd been through a lot and didn't need a busy-body... but maybe she needed a friend? "Yeah, or you can call me Charlie if you like, either is fine really." Her mother hated her nickname, but it seemed so much friendlier than her full name and she loved it.

"Good, I'm glad. You just looked a bit distracted or something and it's so cold out..." She really wasn't sure how to respond to the almost curt reply. It couldn't hurt to reach out in friendship though. It wasn't as if they hadn't seen each other forever in the halls of Hogwarts with both being fourth years, but they'd never really gotten to know each other or anything. Lucinda being a werewolf now didn't scare her, although perhaps it should have on some level, but all she saw was a fellow-student in the other girl. And maybe a friend? "I was thinking of getting some hot chocolate, would you like to come?" she asked, figuring a simple invitation to join her was a good a start as any and she could tell her to sod off just as easily, so it was all up to Lucinda.

She flicked the tip of her wand again, flames bursting out in a more violent stream although she seemed fairly uncaring about it as it did so, it quickly died down again however before being like the light off a candle wick, she was half amazed she hadn't set...anything on fire yet really, that was useful....and good for everyone involved she believed as after all...fire could be dangerous.

"Sure...I guess we can go to get hot chocolate." She said softly, blowing on the tip of her wand to put out the flame as she stood herself up, smoothing down herself and brushing her clothes to remove any grass or dirt that might of been brought up with herself...not that she really cared too much.

Charlie was interesting, she understood it, she somewhat wished her name had something she could have another name part of...Lucy? That just sounded far too girly really, not one she really fancied or she felt fit with her in the end, she felt like she might punch the first person to call her such a thing. But ultimately the girl was seeming friendly enough at the moment.

"What are you doing tomorrow then." She asked with a soft sigh as she moved next to the other girl.

She started as a rather large burst of flame came from Lucinda's wand and was unable to help the feeling of relief that followed her surprise that there wasn't really anything nearby to catch fire before the mini-inferno shrank down to the size of a candle flame. The other young witch agreed to join her and blew out he flaming wand as if it were a giant match stick, which had her smiling for some reason as Lucinda stood and joined her. Charlie turned gratefully towards the castle with her newfound companion, eager for both the hot chocolate and warm fires within.

At Lucinda's question she gave a slight shrug of one shoulder. "Nothing much for now, other than a bit of studying." It was rare that a day went by that she didn't have her nose in a book to expand on something that she already knew or to read up on something new. It wasn't the be all, end all of her life of course, but it was a big part of it. She gave Lucinda a friendly smile. "What about you? Anything interesting planned?" she asked, curious to know more of the girl that often seemed too serious these days. Granted, she understood that she was going through quite a lot under the circumstances and must have a lot on her mind.

"Not going to Hogsmeade?" She asked, somewhat surprised by the answer given to her, a Ravenclaw she would understand not wanting to go but even then it was a field trip...of sorts anyway. The fact that the girl in yellow was preferring to study instead of Hogsmeade...or perhaps she had simply forgotten about it all in the rush of lessons going on, that she could somewhat understand. Lucinda would likely have forgotten the date if it wasn't for the fact she sort of had to keep a track of the moon and dates or else things could go...very very badly.

"I'm going into Hogsmeade for the SAWS protest." She didn't sound too enthused about the situation but it was something she was going to attend all the while really, it was something she...sort of had to attend? As the only Werewolf...in SAWS...the group for supporting Werewolves... It wasn't a situation she was comfortable with at all but she didn't think she could quite tell Zeta about it, she had worked so hard.

"Maybe go for a butterbeer after, I don't know." She shrugged as she twirled her wand, slowly putting it away into a skirt pocket so that she could keep it on hand as needed. "You really don't have plans at all?"

"Hogsmead? Why would... Oh! Is that tomorrow already?" She had completely lost track of the days and events and she felt bad because that was an important one. She wasn't sure that she was ready to be a part of any protests or anything, but for what it was worth, she liked Lucinda and others that been turned into werewolves. She had no illusions that they were dangerous in their beastial form, but right now, she was just a girl, another student just like her and she deserved to be treated as such and not scorned for something that she certainly hadn't asked for.

She suddenly felt self-conscious for her lapse and blushed a bit when Lucinda asked if she really didn't have any plans at all for tomorrow. "No, I don't, or at least I didn't. Maybe I should go too? It might be fun to loo around afterwards, shop a little maybe." She wasn't entirely sure what the plan was for the whole SAWS thing, but she could plan around it if Lucinda didn't mind filling her in. She opened the large door and held it for Lucinda, then breathed a sigh of relief as it closed and the outside chill was cut off from them.

"Yes...its tomorrow." She said softly, the girl really was that caught up in it all wasn't she? She somewhat wished she was able to wander away from things like that and not feel a constant...ever present doom, she hated it, a constant clock reminding her of all the bad things to come, it would make the things away from it more enjoyable if it wasn't for the fact she wasn't having any good moments in between.

"There is the protest but...It won't be fun I guess." She tried not to sound too negative about the situation but it was hard to not be about it all, she gripped her wand tightly in her pocket as they passed through the oversized doors into the castle again.

"I've always wanted to go into the Shrieking Shack, maybe I will tomorrow, be interesting to see what's inside." She shrugged at the idea, that or she'd try to meet up with Greer and make sure she's okay with everything going on...even though the two hadn't had the best last conversation...

She shrugged again and stopped herself, closing her eyes and taking some breathes, wincing a little at the noise from the castle and the footsteps inside, it was never pleasant and she wasn't by herself meaning she needed to adjust somewhat better then block out everything until she filters it down.

She nodded as Lucinda confirmed the event and her expression grew more serious as the other girl mentioned that it wouldn't be fun. Things like that rarely were and thankfully were not a frequent occurrence. She couldn't even imagine how it might feel from her fellow student's point of view given her recent transformation. She certainly hadn't asked to be turned and now she was suddenly in the crosshairs of people that hated because they were scared or didn't understand. Or more likely both. Charlie felt bad for not really considering just how much it might have effected her on a more personal level and she was glad that she had decided to talk to her. "I don't imagine any protest is, but I hope that it goes well for you," she offered softly.

Charlie gave her a little smile at the likely rhetorical question. "Yes, you should definitely go afterwards if you want to. You deserve a bit of fun!" Especially if she had to do the protest first. She caught the slight wince as Lucinda closed her eyes and her brows furrowed with concern. "Are you all right?" She of course had no clue what Lucinda was going through with her senses, but she was worried nonetheless. Something was bothering her!

It took her a few moments to recover, gather her senses, admittedly the other girl was not helping much with it but she slowly let out a long drawn out sigh as she relaxed, opening her eyes and shaking her head about softly. It wasn't great, but she could filter out stuff better now, she still wasn't good at it even after these months, if she told the Headmaster...she wasn't even sure what he would say about it.

"Sorry just, needed to adjust, going from outside to inside, alot more noise and echoing then I like. Not to mention smells." She said softly as she started to walk by her side again, the hot chocolate would be good at this point, even if she burnt her tongue on it, it gave her something to focus on really.

"So um...what classes do you take? I don't think we ever...really spoke or anything?" She asked as she looked Charline up and down, atleast to her knowledge she's never really spoken to her before, but it was always possible they had been grouped together for a project.

She gave a slow nod as the other girl explained her predicament. She had never really considered just how heightened a werewolf's senses might be. How crazy was that? But it made sense as they were far more than the humans they had once been. "I can only imagine what that must be like," she said, making sure to talk a bit more softly so as not to add to the mix that Lucinda was dealing with any more than she already had.

They'd certainly seen each other over the past years, but she hadn't really ever struck up a conversation with the other girl in the past. Even if she seemed a bit distracted, Charlie was glad that she had done so today. "I don't think so. At least not in recent years. About time to make up for lost time?" she offered hopefully. A tiny shrug accompanied a sheepish smile at the question on her classes. "All of them. Along with Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures, of course. This is my favorite elective class. Well, most days it is. Today... not so much. How about you?"

"Its just...annoying..." She said as she wasn't entirely sure how to describe the senses, she couldn't just say more sensitive could she? Or how bad boys smelt, they practically drowned themselves in bodyspray and called it cleaning themselves, it was intoxicating and constantly almost made her vomit whenever she had to walk past them, it made girls somewhat better to be around if alot of them didn't do almost the opposite and smell so sugary sweet from everything they used instead.

The other girl seemed to practically be a Ravenclaw in disguise, she may be dressed as a hufflepuff but perhaps the hat could be wrong about people in the end, her eyes side glanced her as she said about her topics, that was alot to do.

"I only took Runes and Magical Creatures." She said gently, the others didn't seem that interesting, why would she want to learn about muggles? What good would that do her in the wix world out there? She'd already known a decent chunk...mostly planes...and the muppets, but that was still alot to know about the muggle world.
