LONDON - Alec Carter, Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, was discovered dead yesterday morning  in his home in London by agents from the Werewolf Wing.

When Carter failed to appear at work on the morning of the 10th, he was sought in his home where he was found mauled to death. When asked about the cause of death, first on the scene Iona “Bruce” Ballentyne, head of the Werewolf Wing, said:

“I think I'd recognise a werewolf attack, madam.”

The Ministry of Magic confirmed in a press release yesterday that the attack was done by an unidentified Direwolf.[1] At this time, the Ministry is treating Carter’s death and the invasion of the Dumfriesshire werewolf safehouse as connected incidents..

Head of the Beast Division Balfour Spectre told the Daily Prophet that he, “is deeply saddened when I learned of Alec's death but everyone can be assured that our department is trying its utmost to cope with this tragedy, and will always prioritise public safety.”

Similar sentiments from Ballentyne. “You can be assured that we are doing everything we can to find who is responsible. [The DRCMC]  is deeply saddened and angered by the attack, and we ask for people to respect the privacy of Mr Carter's family.”

Carter was known for his hard-line on beast and being regulations, including the strict enforcement of werewolf policies.
