The large avian that swooped silently into the Headmaster's office late in the evening on the 10th of January looked like a post owl from the Ministry, but the envelope that it carried didn't bear any official seals.

The letter inside was short, to the point, and unsigned.

A werewolf murdered Alec Carter at his house last night.

Someone also used Polyjuice to infiltrate a safe house in Scotland.  Two werewolves are missing.  Whoever took them left a silver knife and a set of silver handcuffs upstairs in the empty rooms.

Please keep your damned pack from doing anything stupid.

A return owl arrives to Kurby Bagnold as fast as its wings can carry it. She carries a quickly written letter on the back of scratch paper.

Which safe house? Who is missing?

There wasn't time to interrogate Bagnold's jab at his 'pack' - if Knox had been protective of the girls before, it was doubly so now. The implication ... But no. He had to know if this Scottish safe house was near his castle, and if the werewolves were any of his and Hannah's. Knox had been targeted before and it was arrogant to think it could happen again. And the handcuffs - could be a threat against Greer. And Lucinda, she'd been seen with him at the Werewolf Wing.

Blast Bagnold and his brevity.

The reply that the owl brought back was scribbled on the same piece of scratch paper.
