[29 Dec] (Sorta) Old (Sorta) Acquaintances

on July 02, 2019, 11:42:03 AM

Diagon Alley was already dark as Lennie strolled his way toward Death & Co.  More of a level 4 place, but it was dark, cheap and he wasn't likely to run into anyone.  And its rundown appearance and eponymous vibe suited his current mood.  The business with the Acrux boy had gone so far off the tracks, a nice avada kedavra or two were well called for.

He was still mulling over the past week's disaster (and the pain still in his left shoulder) as he entered and sidled up to the bar next to someone to wait his turn.  It was busier than he expected for a Thursday, people must have been going around with friends early (or late) for the holidays. The barkeep skipped over the other man and came straight to Lennie.  As the other turned toward the bar tender Lennie winced slightly, silently admonishing himself for not recognizing the silvery hair sooner.  It was Draco Malfoy.

'Oh...hey...uh, how's it...uh...goin' Malfoy?  Nice to see you out and about.'  Lennie managed as he strained to cover the surprise in his expression with mundane pleasantries.  He turned to the barkeep, 'I never thanked my friend here for his help a while back.  Two Avada Kedavra's please.'

Realizing the name might be offensive given Draco's past Lennie quickly faced him, scrunched his face and awkwardly swished his hands back and forth as he sputtered, 'It's not...like...too soon...right?'

Tired of spending all his time alone in his home, drinking and waking up to his sadistic house-elf's grin which usually meant he had to search harder for the hangover potion. The elf always had one for him, but he'd hide it in an effort to get his master on his feet.  Not to mention that the little creature enjoyed the spectacle of watching him hunt for it far more than he should.

So here he was, at a bar he hadn't been in for quite a while.  Standing at the bar, he waited (slightly agitated) patiently for his turn to order a drink.  Truthfully, he had been drinking wine and firewhiskey so long that he didn't even know what he was going to order.

Then someone sat down next to him and Draco frowned as the bartender went to the other guy first. He was thinking that he should of just stayed at home when the other guy started to say something.

'Oh...hey...uh, how's it...uh...goin' Malfoy?  Nice to see you out and about.' He heard the guy say and it was then that he noticed who it was.  Draco noticed that he ordered two drinks and almost let the name of the drink startle him, almost. He was about to answer when he was asked if it was too soon.

"No," and he took a deep breath, "not too soon, Bret." Draco smirked at the shortened name he called the Auror. It always did bother him, but it was fun to mess with his head.

Nice to see time and solitude hadn't humbled the smug little prat entirely Lenny thought as the bartender came back around with the shots.

'Good, good.  I wouldn't want to...put you on tilt, Mal.  I know flyin' off the handle used to be one of your....Foy-bles.' Lennie let a smile crack his stoic veneer.  He always was a sucker for a dumb pun.

He handed the second shot over to Draco raised his for a moment and just before he threw it back let slip, 'O'course you're not in Azkaban, so you prolly never used that one, eh?'

Draco lost his smirk briefly at the Auror's mention of Azkaban, but recovered quickly when handed the second shot.

"You are right of course." He whispered as he downed the shot. It was common knowledge now of how he escaped the inevitable prison sentence he was expecting. Only him never using the killing curse saved him.

"So, anything new?" He asked as he signaled the bartender for another shot.

Lennie downed the shot and let the wave of dark oblivion crash over him.  He closed his eyes and fell through the world, down, down, down.

"So, anything new?"

The shot's effects wore off with all the grace of a roller coaster bottoming out and pooped him back onto his stool in front of Draco Malfoy.

Alright Lennie, pull it back a touch he thought.  Malfoy seemed predisposed to wallow in self pity or self flagellation for past sins.

"What, since you saw me last when you were helping on that string of tainted amortentia assaults? Joined your club.  The formerly married sad sack's club." Lennie said with a frank genuineness probably attributable to the aftermath of the Avadas.

"More recently took a kid under my wing that reminds me a bit of you back in school.  I almost got the snarky little shite killed last week.'  Lennie chuckled as he held two fingers up, flicked them down to the bar top and nodded slightly to the approaching bartender, appending Malfoy's order with his own.
