Physical Description:
Middling build and slightly tall, but you wouldn’t really notice. Handsome enough, but no Laurence Olivier. Dark haired with expressive eyebrows and a wide, easy smile framing out a long rectangular face. Large hands that hint at a lankiness that is belied by the square-shouldered suits he tends to prefer to robes and cloaks.
Personality Description:
Quick of wit (for good or bad) vacillating from charming to a bit grim to downright sardonic (although usually only when it’s deserved). Not the handsomest or smartest or most naturally talented, his successes are entirely owed to the work ethic and grit drilled into him by his father. Tends to stuff feelings down and plaster over them with humor or liquor or both. Can be a bit of a mean drunk and has been divorced already once as a result of his poor emotional and ethanol habits. Absolutely loyal to friends and solid although not unreasonable in his views (particularly of good/bad and right/wrong). Won’t start a fight, but sure as hell will finish one, and quick. Woe betide the poor creature who manages to crack his veneer of witticisms and rile him to wrath.
History:
Icelandic father (Daníel) and British Jewish mother (Sara née Bennahmias). Father was a fisherman, mother was a salesperson in her father's kosher butcher shop in Stoke Newington. They met while her family was on 'vacation' in Reykjavík (being the only thing they could afford) in the early 70s. Daníel and Sara fell hard for one another and he followed her family back to London, holding a string of different blue collar jobs before settling into the family business of butchery and meatpacking.
Lennie grew up in the flat above the family business and watched as Stoke Newington went from blue collar to more bohemian around them in the 80s. After finding out he was a wizard, began to aspire to help people and do Good things with his life.
As a student, Lennie was naturally mediocre but sported a learned fastidiousness par excellence. A copious note-taker, easy conversationalist and fiercely loyal friend. He was as natural a Hufflepuff as anyone had seen, a fact only ever doubted by those (deservedly) on the wrong end of his quick wit. The only subject that came naturally to Lennie was defense against the dark arts, where he became known for his prodigious ability with shield charms and his penchant for a snappy comment after a successful (and usually silly) attack. He was once admonished by Prof. Rakepick during a dualling lesson for just standing and staring at his opponent while waiting for them to attack. When she told him he’d never win a dual like that he simply responded, ‘I won’t ever lose a dual like this either.’ Lennie eventually decided he should become an auror, a decision doubly supported by the strange events at Hogwarts during his 6th and 7th year.
Graduated in ‘93 and began auror training, only to become jaded by the strange goings-on at the ministry during his training tenure and refusal of the bureaucracy to deal with them. Left the ministry after training, just prior to Voldemort’s return and went underground to help in the fight against death eaters and Lord V.
Returned to the ministry and to his auror post after Voldemort's fall and has been there ever since.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Less a ‘beat cop’ and more a detective, Lennie investigates serious matters of magical misconduct, usually involving loss of life and limb or organized ongoing criminal activities.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
He is well suited to the task because of his skeptical mind and his practiced eye for detail. His experiences at the ministry during the death eater infiltration and take over of the second war taught him to doubt the surface appearance of every person (or situation) and to seek deeper motives from multiple perspectives.
Writing Sample:
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Lennie is generally easygoing and easy to get along with, provided you’re not too offended by gallows humor. Spends his days haunting the back alleys and hidey holes of wizarding London, rousting rakes and ruffians to track down leads on his latest caseload. Spends his nights haunting its cheapest pubs or passing out in his papasan chair, futilely trying to wash away the bleakest details of the day with liquor.
