Physical Description:
Standing at 6'3" Duncan is tall, lean, and fit. His fair complexion, light brown hair and green eyes all come from his mother. His hair and beard are often unkempt and cut short, inadvertently offsetting his long face and small ears. A long scar gained from a fight during his time in the resistance runs from his lower back around the side of his left hip.

Maintaining his physique is of some importance to Duncan. Working with many creatures helps him stay fit but mostly it's due to his morning work-out routine. Eating meals from partially home-grown ingredients is beneficial to this goal as well.

Duncan normally be found in traditional wizard clothing, designed for outside work and resistant to tears and general maiming of the fabric.

Personality Description:
Duncan is fiercely protective of his friends and family. He will defend them and is not afraid to confront them if he feels they are making unwise decisions and choices. Their well-being is of extreme importance to him and he likes knowing they are healthy and happy, causing no harm to themselves or others. If he has worries or concerns he will eavesdrop on their conversations to be certain nothing is amiss.

As a child and while growing up Duncan was known to be hotheaded. At Hogwarts a disagreement with another student often landed him in detention but when he began working for the ministry he learned to better control his temper, and his time in the resistance fine-tuned that control.

The ease in which the Ministry fell completely shattered Duncan's faith in the establishment. Even with the promise of safeguards to prevent something like that ever happening again his distrust remains in both the Ministry and other organizations.

History:
Duncan was born June 7th, 1966 to Daniel and Isabella McBoid, three years after his older brother. Growing up he was a typically active boy, always out running, playing, and occasionally getting into scraps with other boys.

Until Angus got his acceptance letter to Hogwarts the two boys were very close. They did everything together, learning valuable lessons both socially and with nature. Once Angus and some of their friends left for school Duncan found life to be on the lonely side without his brother. The two boys shared letters though not as often as Duncan would have liked. Otherwise he kept himself occupied and landed himself in more fights without his brother's clearer head.

Three years later Duncan could scarcely contain his excitement when he went to Hogwarts with his brother AND got sorted into the same house. At first he thought they would be together all the time again like they used to but the three year gap between them had only seemed to widen. Angus still kept Duncan from getting into too many fights and they did talk, but if Angus wasn't busy with his studies he was hanging out with his friends and his crush, not his brother. Duncan's disappointment lingered for the beginning of the year, even as his own schoolwork and pastimes took over his new life.

Upon graduating from Hogwarts Duncan immediately began working in the Beast Division in the ministry. In it's many branches the care and love for magical creatures was a family affinity. While working for the department his favorite job was taking creatures from bad situations and, once they were health enough, placing them in good homes or proper environments. Fortunately for the guilty wix, Duncan could not take them to task for their mistreatment of the beasts though he dearly wanted to. Slowly, he got better about keeping his temper in check at every new case. His work improved and more responsibilities were added on as a reward.

Fourteen years later came The Second War and the fall of the Ministry. The change was sudden, like night and day. Duncan stayed on as long as he could, helping people and creatures by smuggling what information he could, even as the Snatchers were brought in and put to use. Eventually he was found out and he had to make a run for it. He grabbed what he could and joined the resistance. He couldn't go to his parents and put them at risk and he certainly couldn't join his brother Angus and his Muggleborn wife Genie. They had plenty of problems of their own, especially when raising a child.

Like many others he fought to save as many people as he could and keep magical creatures of note away from the hands of those who would certainly not care them. He knew some minor healing spells and his skills with them only increased. The survival skills Duncan had learned as a child were tested, improved, and expanded upon. He learned how to leave no trace and eavesdrop on secret conversations for both followers of Voldemort and other fellows in the resistance. The ministry had been thoroughly infiltrated, it was not unreasonable that spies could be among them too. Hearing of the brewing battle at his old school Duncan made his way to Hogwarts, helping in that final fight. Voldemort was defeated by the prophecy-bound teenager and in spite of the win Duncan did not feel much like celebrating. Glad as he was for the end too many good people had died.

Instead of helping with the cleanup, chasing Voldemort's followers who had escaped, Duncan made his way to his brother's farm. Word had reached him of Genie's death in mid-April. It was all the more tragic because in less than a month their worry about Snatchers would be gone. His brother was in a terrible state, along with the farm, and his niece was far too quiet. Time and some tough love had things put back in order.

With his faith in the Ministry shattered Duncan chose not to return to his old job and moved in instead with Angus. He told his brother it was because he wanted to make sure Angus didn't do something stupid like that again.

Several years later a different opportunity arose. Duncan came across a neglected and abandoned creature of the more dangerous variety. Not trusting the ministry to simply dispose of the beast he took care of finding it a new home by himself, where it would be safe and of no danger to anyone. Soon after Duncan realized that many creatures slipped under the radar of the ministry in such situations all because of legalities and paperwork. Using business as an excuse with his brother and niece - he did do work to make it believable - he began to take care of the missed and forgotten creatures. Moira could never learn about it. His would want to help and having her at risk of illegal activities was something he wouldn't allow.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Duncan raises and breeds winged horses with his brother and niece. On the side, without their knowledge, he helps rescue and re-home various creatures that might not otherwise make it through the ministry or other legal aspects.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
He has been living and working with his brother since the end of the Second War in 1998. Before that he worked for the Beast Division at the Ministry of Magic for fourteen years and he learned much about different creatures, the care they require, and appropriate steps to take in handling them.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Duncan is a man devoted to his friends and family even if they don't always thank him for it. His distrust in the Ministry makes him search elsewhere if a task needs to be done. He's not against bending the rules so long as no person or creature are harmed unless harming them is the only way to save others.
