"Try not to wander off and get eaten by something upsetting!" The History professor called back to the gaggle of two dozen ten-, eleven-, and twelve-year-olds who were following him in a meandering herd. There were the eager future prefects keeping perfect pace with his strides, there were the stragglers either distracted or reluctant, and there were the buzzing never-stills who seemed to be moving forward and backwards and sideways at once.

There was no real benefit to trying to keep the procession quiet and orderly. Certainly, it was tidier, but you paid for it later when any pent up energy erupted in less acceptable situations.

Why, they were headed to one right now! The Hogwarts library. The grand repository of centuries of knowledge (and fiddle-faddle) never ceased to impress Knox Greyfriar, even after all these years. It was truly one of the most special places in the castle, and had served many purposes over the years: research, despair, covert operations, canoodling, napping, studying, hiding, seeking, finding. And apparently poking each other with wands.

"Oh, don't do that," he said, laying a large hand gently atop a head.

"Find a place, find a place." With his great wingspan, he corralled the students two a few of the larger tables and began to explain the day's task.

"So far this term we've been learning about how History is done. What it means to study history, why we study it, yes? Volunteer to summarize? What have we done so far to this goal?"
