The Headmaster was very used to his advice (even when it was asked for) being declined, especially when it came to some people. He'd never tell either of them, but Lucinda reminded him of Hannah in that they both seemed determine to let their suffering run its course unhindered. Knox, on the other hand, did a little bit better ignoring his troubles.

That is all to say: he'd found ear muffs helpful while he was in St. Mungo's recuperating.

At his final offer of assistance, Lucinda offered him in return a streak of delightful cleverness and he smiled widely.

"I have faith in you. Oh! Right, you might now know - I'm going for a clean record on student death and dismemberment. It's mostly instructions for our staff, but students are welcome to pitch in. So yes, avoid the maimings and I'll be in your debt."

He lifted a hand in farewell. "Have a nice day, Miss Temple. See you in class. Or wherever."

The headmaster was halfway down the hall before he stopped and turned.

"Oh! Poe wrote on both. Why a raven is like a writing desk."

Then he continued on his way.
