Full Character Name: Wesley Wold
Character Birthday & Age: 11 years old, June 21, 2000
City & Country of Birth: Rural Wiltshire, England (near the town of Tisbury)
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
House & Year: Hufflepuff First Year
Wand: Cedar wood, dragon heartstring core, 12 inches, swishy.
Physical Description: Wes is tall for his age, with long limbs and large hands and feet which suggests he'll continue to grow tall like his uncles. He has his father's large brown eyes and sandy blond hair, paired with his mother's gentle expression. He smiles easily. Though prone to bursts of energy, he is not very athletic and often knocks things over due to clumsiness and enthusiasm. "This is why we can't have nice things," his cousin Wendy accuses him.
He appears comfortable with many types of people, striking up conversations easily and with candor. He enjoys laughing at himself and others. He creates messes wherever he goes, and cares little about the state of his school uniform or possessions.
Personality Description: Wes is an open and lighthearted boy, affectionate with friends (considers a sock to the arm to be affectionate), and protective of his younger siblings. He is known for announcing his whole life story to an entire room, much to his aunt and uncle's chagrin.
He assumes everyone is as open as he is or wants to be, assumes everyone wants to talk to him unless told otherwise. He likes doing things for others, but on his own time. Without prodding from his gruff uncle, he could waste a whole day doing nothing, and will likely have much difficulty keeping track of his schoolwork at Hogwarts.
He's easily impressed by magic and those who seem more worldly or better off. He is the definition of gullible. Unfortunately, his honesty means he says the worst thing at the worst time.
He doesn't often get embarrassed or angry, but when it happens, he handles it poorly. Embarrassment causes him to shut down and clam up for days. Anger causes him to shout and sputter.
History: Wesley spent the first seven years of his young life on his father's farm in Wiltshire, helping his father and mother with their chores and leading his younger siblings in games and sport. His father Walter had a cheerful, warm presence, and was an unapologetic workaholic, determined to keep the family business alive. The farm was an odd mix of mundane crops and magical, rare plants, many kept hidden from prying muggle eyes in the greenhouse. Wesley's father was a stickler for rules and followed every obscure regulation law to ensure the rarer plants didn't fall into the wrong hands. This meant that the family struggled financially from time to time.
Wesley's mother, Lucy, was a mysterious sort of person, quiet and calm most of the time, unless she was teasing her children or battling pests in the greenhouse. She and Walter told them stories every night, filling their heads with joyful, silly tales in sillier voices. They avoided sad stories. Wesley was too young to understand it, but he knew his mother got sad at times, and that the wizarding world had not been kind to her.
His father was older, a halfblood, and had graduated well before the second wizarding war. His mother was muggleborn, and had the great misfortune of being sorted into Slytherin along with Malfoy, Crabbe, Bulstrode, and all the rest. She'd dropped out of Hogwarts before her seventh year, and hid out with Walter. They married with little fanfare, and decided to pass on the father's last name to their children, hoping a halfblood status would make their lives a little easier.
They had three children in fairly quick succession. Wesley first, Wren a few years later, and then Wyatt.
When Wesley was five, his father overworked himself and had a fatal accident on the farm. Wesley couldn't understand that he was gone, and continually asked his mother when he'd be back. It took a long time for him to come to terms with it, though he tried to help in his own way, looking after his siblings and following his mother's instructions as best he could.
His mother stopped telling them stories at night, stopped playing games with them as much. Wesley told them stories instead, while his mother worked and worked.
She began to leave the house at strange times, laden with packages that she wouldn't allow the children to touch.
One day, when Wesley was seven, his mother left the house and never came back. This was after a visit from the Ministry in which they poked around the farm and questioned her increase in income. All Wesley knows is that she left like she usually did, a parcel under her arm and a wand in her coat pocket. He remembers her smile and the farewell kiss on his forehead. To this day, she is still considered missing.
Wesley, Wren, and Wyatt were shuttled off to the most responsible of the muggle uncles. He runs a Bed and Breakfast not too far away in the village of Castle Combe. His uncle and aunt adopted the children officially, changing their last name back to the mother's maiden name - Wold. Though the uncle is suspicious of the magical world and his sister's disappearance, he treats the children like his own, and encourages his daughter Wendy to do the same. Wesley and Wendy became fast friends. They've spent many an evening fetching tea and hot cocoa for guests, and giving up the best seats by the fireplace.
Wesley is the one who remembers glimpses of his late father, and seems to miss his mother and life on the farm the most. He believes that she is lost in the wizarding world somewhere, wanting to come back to them but unable to do so.
His uncle often scolds him for his fanciful thinking, but Wes takes comfort in the story he's invented. He is excited about starting school at Hogwarts, as it is one of the few connections to his parents he has left.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: The hat had a tough choice between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, but settled on Hufflepuff due to his gregarious attitude. He includes everyone by instinct, be it young siblings, peers, or cranky adults.
Once loyal, he becomes blindly loyal, ignoring flaws and making excuses for bad behavior. He also clings to ideals and hopes when all logic tells him he should do otherwise.
Writing Sample: Sum up your character in one paragraph: Wesley is a dreamer, inventing stories starring his friends when he isn't busy talking at them. He has moments of doubt and sensitivity, but believes the world is good and people are good even when bad things happen. He has a home with his uncle and aunt, with one foot planted in the muggle world. The other foot is itching to explore Hogwarts, and get out into the wizarding world and find his mother, who he believes is still alive.
