London Pride 2011

!!LONDON PRIDE!!

(sorry Joh)

Hello hello! I just wanted to start a little thread to remind everyone that London's Pride march in 2011 took place on the 2nd of July - which is in the next calendar shift.

We have a lovely LGBT+ community on Absit Omen so if anyone is interested in either having their characters attend the muggle march or holding a wizarding equivalent in Diagon/Knockturn Alley, this is the place to talk about it! A quick google of Pride 2011 turned out this link should anyone want to know more about the Pride scene in London at the time.

If there is enough interest, we can discuss setting up an open thread - otherwise we can always just have our own personal threads take place in the march or at its subsequent festivities!

I love the idea of Peyton covered in glitter XD

I also feel like Neville would be such an ally

I'm up for a big event thread or even just mini threads, either way I think it would be cool if Diagon (or wherever) had a pride celebration.

 :D

Diagon is a bit short for a proper parade, even if it carries through to Knockturn - maybe a a giant street party instead? Cafés and pubs could serve free Pride themed drinks/snacks, and Reducto Records could blast music. Shops could run appropriate games/activities?

Most of my active bbs will be there! I think Virgil might arrange for a bunch of people to go together, if we want the students (former students by July!) to attend as a group.

If Diagon Alley is too small, couldn't they do it through the main area of the Ministry? I mean there would be the problem of getting permission from the ministry to do it but they could fit and go through, fireworks can still go off just not as big. And all the tiles (I forgot how it looks in books so just going off films x.x) could easily have a spell cast on them to create scenes or to take colours to lighten the place up. It would make the place look alot less depressing aswell which I think would add to the experience seeing the parade able to make one of the most dull and darkest looking places look beautiful and fun.

Especially if an invitation was extended to him, Sasha would feel obligated to show up.  But, he'd be extremely conflicted about the whole affair.  But, it sounds like a little reunion could be fun!

That does sound like fun, though I'm not sure how feasible it is! Most people want to get away from the Ministry on weekends! :P

Any MoM employees - maybe the Minister - have an opinion? I'm sure the Ministry could still get in on the celebrations, just not sure about the parade format. Sol would consider it a security risk.

Oh Virgil's definitely sending one to Schlawkward. ;)

I've always imagined Diagon Alley to be longer than the films portray or Harry ever explains, but parade, street party all sounds good either way.

Of Diagon vs Ministry, IMHO I think Diagon's more public/accessible (especially since the Leaky Cauldron was restored!) and more of a community feel. The Ministry's a government building and enclosed, though like, as Aki suggests, maaaagic can do things. :D

Also, yes, it's secure of late and I think Edwin would think similar to Sol. He's not got any strong views (as far as his white male, heterosexual, skirt chasing backside is concerned on the subject) but it's in his interests to be positive about it.

Definitely the Ministry would have a presence at any Pride celebrations though? I would imagine there might be a formal/informal LGBT+ group amongst employees (thinking a bit like the Met Police do maybe) who might lead that.
