Alder wood, unicorn hair core, 11" long, knobby handle with a smooth, and slightly crooked shaft.

    Physical Description:
With a full head of luxurious, red curls, some very unforgettable freckles and a sweet tooth gap, Darcy is hard to miss in a crowd.  She’s rather tall at 5’9” and has never lacked in shape.  Indeed, Darcy was one of those girls that developed her womanly features early and got attention for it.  She wasn’t really the sort to revel in it… too much.  For a while, it was a bit touch and go anyway – always the wrong color make up that clashed with her hair, clothes that were either just a little too short or a little too tight – but in her teenage years, she started to figure things out and by the time she graduated, she was well on her way to a comfortable and practical (if not loud) style.

Darcy appreciates comfort and modesty.  She likes soft fabrics and things that allow her to move.  Bright colors are always good for work too.   Shoe choice is also crucial and most often, she is running around in anything that makes it possible to well… run around.  One of the only impractical accessories she allows herself is her earrings: Darcy loves anything that shines, jingles, and hangs from her ears.  She’s almost always got a sunny expression on her face and the corners of her dark, brown eyes crinkle when she laughs.

    Personality Description:
Truth be told, she did like the ability to stand out from a crowd and be a presence, once she figured out just what that meant for her.  Darcy is warm, but demanding. Her voice is clear and loud, but she is always smiling – eyes crinkled at the corners constantly.  She is frequently flushed, a bundle of energy, and after school she is most usually covered in paint or paste of some kind, and those are the pleasant days.  Less fantastic days have far less fantastic fluids attached to them.  She manages to keep her cool though, no matter how her days go.

She is a phenomenally patient person (with children – we’ll get to adults later), given her profession and endlessly enthusiastic.  In addition to her job at The Mandrake Patch, Darcy is a passionate gardener and tries to live sustainably.  This involves keeping a few chickens, some sheep, a cow, as well as twin mooncalves (for fertilizing her garden), a barn cat, and a border collie.   Having a preference for the outdoors, Darcy has also been known to bring some of her creatures to the Patch to interact with the young students.  She also has a small vegetable patch that she started up to show the students the importance of hard work, responsibility, and having nutritious food.

She’s no-nonsense and doesn’t really like extra things.  As a result, she relies on herself for most things and finds a lot of pride in the fruits of her own labor.  She deeply appreciates nature, and as a result, is a vegetarian.  The one thing she can’t really do for herself is make her own clothing, especially because she does not have the skill, time, or patience to (back to that word again) make it.

Darcy has a good sense of humor, but a filthy mouth.  She doesn’t curse at school, but it usually seems like the second she leaves her students at the end of the day, she can’t hold it in a second longer.  Her filter is seriously lacking when she’s not trying to be a professional.  She is much more talk than she is action and when she doesn’t think before she speaks, it can get her in trouble.   Back to the patience: she has trouble with adults, the people who should know better not acting as though they do.  It is her tendency, as an older sister, to want to dictate how things should go and that everyone should be so mature (at least… she likes to think she is and that everyone else should be at the same place).   This leads her to being only slightly judgmental and overbearing, which works for her professionally but not always in her personal life.

    History:
Born in Telford, England to the elder Pinn brother and his wife, Darcy was the first born.  They lived a rather quaint life together, north of London, and welcomed children into the world quite happily.  They were affectionate parents and always encouraged learning, careful to raise their children bilingual and aware of the world around them.  Darcy took very well to having a younger sister and immediately became the “boss” (regardless of what her sister would think or say about it).

Her favorite childhood games were playing school and teaching her sister anything and everything – including her letters, numbers, and colors.   As they got older and there was less need for Darcy’s… teaching, she encouraged her more bookish sister to adventure with her.  She always had a plan, something she wanted to explore or uncover – it was a charmed life.

When she was eleven, she had to be separated from this upbringing though.  She was going to Hogwarts!  It was something she’d always been waiting for!  Once she got there, sorted into Hufflepuff, Darcy couldn’t help but feel like maybe she wasn’t exactly who she thought she was.  She’d been convinced she would end up in Gryffindor, so it was a bit of a shock, to be honest.  She adjusted, of course, but not always really well.  She did enter Hogwarts during Harry Potter’s sixth year, after all, and hufflepuff was still reeling from tragedy two years before and the lingering reign of Dolores Umbridge.

But then, things got bleaker.  Her first year at Hogwarts was one that could have very well been her last (and for many of her classmates that started with her, it was, especially after the Ministry fell and classmates were being hunted down for their blood status).  Darcy grew into being a Hufflepuff and though she was too young to even sneak out to fight in the battle of Hogwarts, she was constantly trying to support her classmates and served more than a few detentions with the Carrows for it.  She was honestly glad that her sister wasn’t in school yet – especially at the close of her second year.

It was nearly impossible to go back in third year.  Darcy didn’t know how anyone could be normal again – how anything could be normal again.  She spent a lot of that summer processing and begging to not return, but that was out of the question for the Pinns.  Darcy returned to school and really fell into it after that.  At thirteen, her life goals readjusted and while she enjoyed school and her new choices of classes, she enjoyed people much more.  Darcy took a liking to first years and getting them acclimated to Hogwarts.  It was even better in her fifth year when she became a prefect, and the first year whisperer.

She didn’t really know what she wanted with her life, but she knew she liked younger kids and had a talent (and love) for herbology and care of magical creatures.  When she graduated, she had a number of jobs: bar maid, teashop, shop assistant… the first year was a game of trial and error.  Thankfully, Darcy used that year to save and figure things out because by the time she was turning 19, she applied for a position at The Mandrake Patch.  She had always wanted to work with younger kids and she could keep her job at the Magic Neep on the weekends.  She did this for several years and though she no longer works at the Neep, she does source some her vegetables, eggs, and milk to the shop for an extra bit of income.

Thus started her ascension toward a lead teacher position and amateur farmer status, which she holds now in the four and five year old room.  She’s a creative teacher and enjoys building the foundational skills required for future studies.  Many of her students funnel into the same primary school tutors to form their classes and soon enough some of her former students will even be entering Hogwarts for the first time – which is truly wild.

Additionally, as she gained experience and confidence, Darcy started to branch into her other hobbies as well, starting with a small cottage in the country and expanding into a barn with several creatures – including the cat that just showed up and now goes by the name of Bells (short for Hell’s Bells).  She has savagely destroyed any mouse that dare enters the barn and even makes a strong play for a few gnomes (rest in peace), in the garden.  Slowly populating the barn, Darcy has chickens, four sheep and a lamb, a border collie named Toby, a cow called Marge, and recently acquired a set of twin mooncalves named Dorothy and Nell!  The fertilizer has proven to enhance the quality of her vegetables exponentially, even if the nearby muggles do believe that aliens have landed whenever they get out at night.  Luckily, she hasn’t had any run-ins with Level 4 as of yet about this behavior.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Darcy is responsible for providing the basis of an education for wizarding children.  Basic reading, math, and social skills are all taught at the Mandrake Patch.  She has a creative approach to teaching and organizes her students' days much like a Hogwarts day, including potions and care of magical creatures class.  In addition to daily teaching and supervising tasks, once a month, she works over night to support werewolf parents during the full moon.

On her farm, she focuses on providing the best products she can.  She takes care of her animals and cultivates a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.  These products are sold to the Magical Neep in Hogsmeade, which is a supplementary income to what she makes at The Mandrake Patch.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Darcy has always had a knack for managing younger people.  Sweet, but stern she knows how to keep things under control and can manage many tasks at once.  She’s unafraid of getting dirty and has never backed down from a challenge.  Her adventures in child care started with her family and moved outward, using her natural concern for others as a springboard into her career after a year of exploring options.  She’s worked up from being a helper to a lead teacher through many years of working and developing her ideas around childcare.  Darcy loves creative activities and all of the extra energy she has is put to good use, especially in the school’s vegetable patch – one of her pet projects with the children – and frequent introduction to furry friends great and small.

As an amateur farmer, she sells her vegetables and animal products to The Magic Neep (a grocers in Hogsmeade).  She sells her wool at a discount to the artisan who also sheers it.  Darcy lives a sustainable (mostly) life and uses her mooncalf and cow dung as fertilizer for the garden.

    Writing Sample:
    ...no.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Unabashed, unafraid, and willing to stand out in a crowd, Darcy is an ideal teacher personality.  Granted, outside of the classroom she is less than family friendly.  With a dirty mouth, she tackles the world one adventure at a time.  Not only passionate about teaching, she loves the outdoors and is a budding amateur farmer.
