    Physical Description:

Mia has a typical Caucasian skin tone, fair and creamy but easily tanned in the sun. She’s slightly shorter than average, something she resents, but her long legs and slender frame make her look taller. While she runs occasionally, she’s not as toned as she wishes she was. She doesn’t have the build of an athlete or the grace of a dancer; she’s just thin. She’s always believed that her feet and hands are awkwardly small for the rest of her body, but it’s hard to say if that’s actually true...

Mia’s slightly wavy, almost wispy hair barely reaches her shoulders. She keeps it down most of the time, and it doesn’t bother her too much if it becomes tousled or tangled (which it often is). It’s flaxen in color, a shade she neither really likes nor dislikes. Her round face holds bright, china-blue eyes and pale, thin lips. She’s pretty, in a way that usually escapes notice, which is probably because she’s normally indifferent towards her appearance – she doesn’t bother with fashion or makeup or fancy hairstyles.

    Personality Description:

Mia is one of those people who need to be needed. She loves helping people and habitually puts others before herself; it’s hard for her to say no to someone (anyone, really) who’s asking for help. She takes her responsibilities and obligations seriously and places a lot of importance on keeping promises, which makes her a committed student, a dutiful daughter, and a dependable friend. But it’s not always a good thing. She ends up overworked, agreeing to do everything and then finding out that she can barely fit it all in, and her “need to be needed” is kind of pathetic, at least in some people’s eyes.

She’s a follower, not a leader; power and authority don’t interest her very much. Mia prefers withholds the truth to protect the people she loves, even if that means she isn’t being completely honest. An introvert by nature, she has a quiet demeanor and can be incredibly timid around strangers, but once she warms up to you she’s sweet and compassionate. She’s the type to actually care about other people’s feelings – probably a little too much. Mia likes stability and security, not change, and she’d rather stick to tradition and go with the flow than make waves. She’s very organized and routine, a classic Ravenclaw.

Mia gets really discouraged when she’s criticized; she’s modest to a fault and feels like she isn’t good enough for anything when she doesn’t get positive feedback. She’s easily hurt and easily scared (a coward, in her own words), she holds grudges without really knowing it, and while she appreciates logic and tries to be logical, she mostly just gives in to emotion. Like most Ravenclaws, she’s intelligent and loves books. With her schoolwork, she’s thorough, accurate, and painstaking, paying a lot of attention to detail.

    History:

The First Wizarding War had just ended. After the news of Voldemort’s fall reached a young French muggleborn witch named Madeleine Blanc, she packed her bags moved to London, England, the city she had always dreamed of living in. Within a year, she met Owen Clark, a muggle businessman, and on their first date they fell in love. She confessed that she was a witch just a few weeks into their relationship. Owen was stunned at first, but he got used to the idea. They were soon married, and on January 11, 1993, they had their first and only child, Amélie Genevieve, nicknamed Mia.

Mia grew up in a spacious suburban home just outside London, living, for the most part, like a muggle. Owen and Madeleine were still in love, but Owen became busier and busier at work. He worked late almost every day and unintentionally neglected his family in favor of promotions and bonuses. Luckily, Mia had her caring, gentle mother, who made plenty of time for her daughter. Madeleine decided to give up magic (for Owen’s sake, mostly) and became the history teacher at Mia’s muggle school.

Even though Madeleine made sure Amélie had a safe and happy childhood, Mia still noticed her father’s constant absence. It seemed he was always making promises he couldn’t keep. When she was five, she watched as her dad called to say he’d be home for dinner that day. Her mother cooked a lavish meal and the two sat down to wait for him, but he didn’t return until late that night. From that mundane moment on, Mia knew she never wanted to let someone down the way her dad did.

The Second Wizarding War took place during Mia’s childhood, but since it ended when she was only five, she doesn’t remember much about it. They rarely talked about the wizarding world, anyway. Life quickly went back to normal – and then Mia accidently made her favorite stuffed animal vanish and reappear a foot away, causing Madeleine to feel a strange mixture of pride, joy, and trepidation.

Amélie had obviously inherited her parents’ intelligence, too; she learned to read at an early age and did well in her classes. She spent a lot of free time in the public library near her house. History in particular fascinated her, probably because her mother made it so interesting. In school, she sometimes got picked on for being a quiet, submissive bookworm, and she hated it, but she just kept her mouth shut and nursed her resentment privately.

When the letter from Hogwarts came, her parents both agreed to let her go – Owen because he didn’t have time for the girl anyway, and Madeleine because she was glad her daughter would get the chance to learn magic like she did.

Mia loved Hogwarts. She loved her house, she loved the magnificent castle and the talking portraits, she loved casting spells and brewing potions and studying the history of magic. She excelled in most of her classes, especially Potions, Astronomy, and History of Magic. She never had much of an interest in sports, so she didn’t try out for Quidditch. Now Mia’s ending her fourth year at Hogwarts and getting ready to begin her fifth.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:

Mia is bright and intellectual. History and magic fascinate her; she’s passionate about learning and a voracious reader, too. She pays attention to detail in her work, always trying to make it as accurate and thorough as possible. She values intelligence and wisdom, as well as organization.

    Writing Sample:

Mia sat comfortably in a navy blue armchair, surrounded by the chatter (and occasional laughter) of her fellow Ravenclaws. A stack of books lay on the table in front of her. She reached forward, pulled out her Transfiguration textbook, and began to read. A yawn escaped her lips. It was getting late, and many of the other students were already heading for their dormitories. She was almost done with the required reading for the night, so she’d be able to follow them soon, she thought happily – but then she remembered the letter she’d promised her mum. If she didn’t start it tonight, she’d never finish it by tomorrow, and if she didn’t send it by tomorrow, her mother would worry. She couldn’t stand the thought, so she went back to work, resigned.

After finishing her reading and getting a good start on her letter, she got up from her seat, yawning. But at that moment a first year approached Amélie shyly, clutching her Potions textbook. Stammering a little, the girl asked Mia if she could help her with her essay, which was due tomorrow. Mia shook herself awake – she had pretty much fallen asleep on her feet by now. The first year wore an anxious frown and looked so desperate that Mia couldn’t help but say, “Sure, no problem. Don’t worry, it’ll be done by tomorrow.”

It turned out that the first year was remarkably incompetent at Potions. At first Mia had tried to teach her, rather than just write the essay for her; however, as the night dragged on she realized that it was more or less impossible. She hoped her expression wasn’t betraying her frustration – the student was just a first year, after all. In the end, Mia was the one writing, although she felt bad that she was more or less forcing the first year to let her compose the essay.

It was past midnight when they (or more accurately, Mia) finished. The first year gave a quick “Thanks so much!” and dashed away to her dorm. Mia sighed and finally went up to the dormitories, feeling simultaneously content to have helped the younger student and slightly bitter that she never got just a little more appreciation.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:

Amélie is kind, compassionate, and giving; she loves to help people and habitually puts others before herself, something that often ends up making her miserable (though only on the inside). She’s modest to a fault, emotional, and easily discouraged. She takes responsibility very seriously, despite (or because of) her unreliable father, and is an extremely trustworthy and dependable friend. She’s quiet, at first timid, and a follower, not a leader. Her intelligence, meticulousness, and passion for learning allow her to shine in her classes, especially History of Magic.
