Physical Description

Kira doesn't take up much space, in body or in the energy she projects. She's 5'5" and fairly skinny, and nothing about her appearance really draws attention. Her hair, which is a reddish strawberry-blond color, is kept short; her preferred clothing style is made up of loose clothes in soft colors.

What she lacks in size, she makes up for in poise - Kira holds herself upright at all times, shoulders back and head high. When she walks, she walks with purpose. She doesn't exude the image of a large-and-in-charge woman, though; just one who knows her business and goes about it in an unobtrusive (but not shy) manner.

Personality Description

In general, Kira is something of an observer -- she'd rather stand on the sidelines of life, watching the world go by with a sharp eye and noticing the kinds of things other people don't. She has a keen eye for detail, often spotting things overlooked by others. At school, this meant she was a popular choice for proofreading homework; at work, she's frequently asked to look things over in their last stages to be sure everything's in place. On the flip side of the same coin, she can be kind of nit-picky, and sometimes offers her corrections unsolicited.

Kira is the difference between quiet and shy. She sometimes comes off as aloof, or else as too nervous to talk, but the fact of the matter is this: She thinks of words as tools. If she has the answer to a question or something to add to a conversation, she's not afraid to speak up; otherwise, she prefers to remain silent than talk just to fill the silence. Other people do more than enough of that.

In school, Kira was rather bookish and reserved, preferring to keep to herself rather than fraternize with her schoolmates. As a result, many of the things teenagers get up to - drinking, sex, general misbehavior - are foreign territory to Kira, and a surefire way to make her blush is to start talking about such exploits.

History

Kira Underhill was born on the twenty-first of August, 1992, to Joseph and Willow Underhill, both of mixed magical blood. Her parents never had any other children, but that was okay - Kira preferred to play alone anyway. Besides, she got along famously with Augusta Ramsay, the youngest daughter of a friend of Joseph's. Though they were nine years apart, the two girls played together very well, Augusta even babysitting little Kira from time to time.

When Kira was two, she decided her favorite time of the year was summer - summer was when Augusta came home from Hogwarts and regaled her with stories of huge castles and talking paintings. Kira couldn't wait until it was her turn to go to Hogwarts.

When she was eleven, that turn came. The Sorting Hat deliberated for a moment between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, but in the end Kira became an eagle. Her seven years at Hogwarts passed relatively uneventfully - she kept out of trouble, made good grades, and even (with the help of her beloved Ramsay), managed four NEWTs.

Kira spent the year after she graduated from Hogwarts at her parents' house in Plymouth, decompressing from academia and deciding where she wanted her life to go. That year came to a close when she decided she wanted to move out and get a job as an editor at a publishing house, which she is currently starting to do.

Occupational Details and Expertise

Kira has just been hired as an editor at Obscurus Books. Her duties include reading over manuscripts, correcting anything from errors in punctuation to continuity issues to "this would sound better phrased this way." The job of an editor is to take a rough manuscript, smooth out the edges, and send it back to its writer for approval.

Kira has been proofreading and editing papers since practically day one of her Hogwarts career, her attention to detail helping her notice even the smallest errors. She was practically an editor already by the time she graduated.
