RPG Directory. After a very long time hunting for a board that is as active as I am willing to be, I read through everything and decided I would enjoy writing here. Yes, it's daunting at first considering I usually write for boards with no more than thirty active characters at any one time, but I'm sure I'll get over that!

    Physical Description:

Mara stands at 5'3" and is scrawny rather than slender. Her long, dirty fair hair falls to just beneath her shoulders and is hardly ever restricted unless it's for safety or ease during a practical lesson. Her eyes are a piercing blue and many would say, her best feature, next to her gorgeous palored skin, for which she has that proud Romanian aristocracy blood to thank.

Her own unique sense of style has been well developed to her own tastes and she likes to push the boundries of current fashions, prefering to be comfortable in her clothes rather than bound to what is "in style". Her clothing is, more often than not, layered and loose across her scrawny frame and she can usually be found buried under a lot of heavy eye make up and rattling accessories.

    Personality Description:

Growing up the youngest child and only daughter in a very well-to-do situation, Mara is very used to getting her own way and rarely takes no for an answer with the exception of a stern word from her doting father.

Mara is what some would call a strange girl, she keeps to herself most of the time, prefering to watch others and gauge them before she will allow herself to be completey off guard with them or allow them to be considered her friend. She can be hot headed at times, loosing her temper if things don't go her way.

Due to her older brothers being looked upon as golden children by the extended family, Mara has issues with her own abilities and is always pushing herself to do better than she did before in an attempt to live up to them. Academically, she is exceptionally bright in magical subjects that are moreso scientific and the only subjects in which she truly excels are potions and charms, despite their practical bases. She is all to aware of the fact that she is terrible on a broom and subjects like divination and transfiguration, but she refuses to let that hold her back, pushing herself to exceed everyones expectations as best as she can. All for fear of falling beneath her brothers on the success train.

Her pushiness is overshadowed only by her arrogance, and this is shown in the pride she takes in her appearance. Mara enjoys the finer things in life and has essentially, wanted for nothing. As a result, she has a hard time associating with people whos background has differed greatly from her own. Money is something that will always play somewhat of a leading role in her life.

She can be snappy, sarcastic and her sense of humour is incredibaly twisted for a girl so young, but this is all just part of who she is and can be looked upon as the result of having two older brothers. To those who have entered her good books however, she is loyal to them and happy in their presence. A true smile from Mara is like a gift from the heavens and should be looked upon as such. Her family mean more to her than life in itself and it isn't only her close family. It is the extended one. She is fiercely proud of their achievements on both her fathers and her mothers side and is very open about that fact, almost to the point of being obnoxious.

    History:

Mara Tolkin Vladimirescu was born on the 30th of October 1990 in Teversham, Cambridge. She was the only girl to be born into her family, one of the main wizarding families of Romania, for 50 years and she and her parents take great pride in this, despite the fact that she is looked upon as a sort of bad omen by relatives.

Her coming to be was somewhat of a shock to her parents, who had only returned to England in order to care for Mara's maternal grandmother, whose health had deteriorated terribly and who had unfortunately passed before Maras first birthday. Upon finding out about the pregnancy, they decided it best to stay in Cambridge, for fear of putting anymore undue stress on Celestria, Maras mother. It was a typically english night when Mara came, breeched and just a little early, into the world. Given her runty appearance, and the fact that she was a girl, something made her parents think that the baby would not see out the week. She defied them all however and it didn't take long for her to establish her position as her fathers pride and joy.

Mara was homeschooled by her watchful parents Celestria and Dragos, as her brother Grigore and Danut had been before her, studying many languages, cultures and all forms of magics. Her father had made sure she did not neglect her heritage and the girl had Romanian as her first language and the family spent every free holiday in the family homestead that lay tucked away in the Carpathian mountains in the rugged and beautiful countryside of Romania.

Her father, an exceptionally talented and feared man, loved his children and bowed to their every whim, within reason of course. Mara had wanted a dog when she was four years old. Twisting it in someway to tie into his own proud heritage, he aquired for the family, five Romanian wolves, one in honor of each member of the family. At home in Taversham, the animals rarely wander far from a family members side, like some frightening sentinal, but it's just another little quirk in their family tree. Her father always wanted to see her happy, and she had gotten very used to that treatment by the time she was ten years old. Becoming what some might call a brat, but having not known anything different, she had never seen any problem with that.

The family however, had moulded well into the small community of Taversham, residing in a grand manor house at the mouth of the forest, a considerable downsize from what they still owned in Romania, but a new family home none the less. Her older brothers both attended the Durmstrang Institute to study their magic while Mara, being born in England, was accepted to Hogwarts. A choice she was happy with because it meant she could still be relatively close to her parents. She always was and probably forever would be, a daddys girl.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:

Mara is somewhat selfish and forced ahead only for her own means. Inside her pretty little blonde head and burning deep in her chest, is a need to prove herself to her family and to an extent, the world. Her intelligence is used not only to achieve good grades, but also to manipulate and she will not rest for long if she is attempting to get her own way.

Being of pureblood, and a descendant of one of the most powerful of Romainian wizarding families, she is fiercely proud of her heritage and will not very freely associate with anything less than pure blood. She was raised to believe that magic was a privlige and not a right and thinks it should be carried as such.

Slytherin is perfect for the girl because it helps to nurture her drive and that burning ambition, by being around others who have her beliefs and her mannerisims. That is not to say she trusts others in the house however. Mara is pretty much a self-serving girl and sees no problem with it. Sometimes it's better to just... look out for number one.

    Writing Sample:
Going back to school had become somewhat of a ritual for the Vladimirescu family. Mara would have spent the fortnight prior to returning, tagging her books, preparing her quills and her trunk with everything she would need for the upcoming year, and the night before she was to grace platform 9 3/4, her brothers would return from their respective homes in Romania to bid farewell to their baby sister. It was tradition now, for them and her parents to accompany her and help her through the final checks before she boarded the train for another year at the school she had grown to love.

Through the hustle and the bustle of eager students, she stood in her own graceful manner as her father ran through the checklist, her mother dabbed tears from her wet eyes and her brothers, despite being all grown up and oh so mature, ruffled at her hair and attempted to gain some sort of angry rise from their younger sibling.

She loved her father, with every ounce of everything in her, but she was getting a little impatient with the rhyming off of everything she was already well aware of. Letting out one heavy sigh, she folded her arms across her scrawny little body and tapped her foot on the platform. "Tata, I know all of this. Besides, it's only first term! So long as you give me pocket money to see me through till the end, I'll be ok!"  Her father looked at her sternly before folding up the sheet with her itinery on it and putting it into his pocket.

Her eldest brother, Danut, let out a little woop of immaturity at the fact that she had spoken so out of place to their father, but he knew fine well that she would recieve no chastising. Mara was the apple of their fathers steeley eye. "Very well, printessa maya." Her father spoke softly to her before kissing her forehead. "But.. if you ever find yourself unprepared.. I shall not be so willing as to help you!" She knew this was an empty threat and smiled ever so angeliclly in that knowledge.

A very obviously muggle family passed them and she saw her fathers posture stiffen at the questions they asked of other people as they passed. Her family was pretty old school when it things like blood purity. Mara was no exception to that rule. She felt her own upper lip curl in distaste as they passed. Sometimes she wished her school was pureblood only.. but she was all to aware that that was never going to happen.

The whistle signalled boarding time and after she had pushed all distaste from the forefront of her thinking, she beamed one bright smile, befitting of a cherub before flinging her arms around her fathers waist and hugging him tightly. "I'll see you soon Tata! Te iubesc!" she kissed his cheek before bestowing her mother the same treasure. Her brothers, waited their turns, poking at her and attempting to tickle the only girl child before hugging her tightly, still secretly annoyed that she hadn't been taught at their school. It was a burried secret though.

After bidding her farewells and boarding the train she raced to find a compartment so as to wave good bye. Opening the window, she held her hand out which was promptly taken by her doting father and bestowed with a light kiss before he moved back to her now crying mother. After all these years, her mother still cried. She didn't find it embarrassing though, in fact she would have been upset if she didn't. As the train pulled away from the platform, she waved her goodbyes, sticking her tongue out at her brothers as required and only pulling herself inside when they had all disappeared out of view.

So here was to another year at Hogwarts. Whos to say it wouldn't be the best, despite all the exams she had to look forward to? With a somewhat satisfied sigh, she took a drawing book from her bag and started to sketch nothing in particular, planning her first few days at school as she went along. This was going to be a good year, and she would most definately see to that.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Mara is an intelligent although manipulative and selfish girl, who is driven purely by her own need and that of her family. To those friends who prove themselves worthy of her companionship, she is loyal and caring, and she is also devoted to her family to a fault, but she makes no attempts to hide her wealth, blood purity or the standing of her ideals, making her seem somewhat of a snob or a biggot to those who don't know her too well.
