City & Country of Birth: Carrick, Northern Ireland
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Muggleborn
House & Year: Gryffindor/5th
Wand: 11", spiral-cut and inflexible, oak wood and dragon heartstring.
Physical Description: Cara is 5'3" and approximately 115 lbs —very slightly below average for her age and gender. Though predisposed to a certain waifyness, the unmistakable suggestion of muscularity lurks beneath the flesh of her arms, legs, and abdomen. Her voice is mid-range—not quite high-pitched, not quite bassy—and rather lilty, true to Northern Irish form.
Her "true" form—that is, what she looks like without making any modifications—is sharp-jawed and hazel-eyed, with thick black eyebrows and thicker black hair that settles somewhere around her shoulder blades.
That said, Cara's particular hereditary talent—that of a metamorphmagus—presents considerable leeway, in so much as "appearance" is concerned. She can, at will, alter the many minute features of her face and body to her liking—though as a young and only partly-trained witch, she has yet to master this ability: stress and sour emotions can wreak havoc upon her powers.
When not required to adhere to the school's dress code, Cara prefers jeans and tee shirts or button-ups—a very casual attire, often quite homey and relaxed. As for her uniform, however, it's a pure toss-up between skirts or slacks, and she quite enjoys rolling the sleeves of he blouse when she can get away with it.
Personality Description: As with any self-respecting Gryffindor, Cara is decidedly brave and bold, loyal to a fault, and courageous when it counts. She is a talented witch and a studious student, and rarely lands herself in serious trouble.
Cara is also unashamedly brash and outspoken—often to the point of insensitivity and rudeness—and, when the mood strikes her, both flippant and sarcastic. She can, at times, be thoughtless or dismissive of others' feelings and concerns, and is particularly stubborn—convinced, more often than not, that she and she alone is correct unless proven otherwise. Unsurprisingly, Cara can flare a nasty 'tude, and lose her temper when provoked.
Wearing her emotions on her sleeves, it's not difficult to gauge Cara's mood, nor is it easy for her to conceal hurt, sorrow, or anxiousness, often looking as gloomy as possible when sad, fuming when in a foul mood, or rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet when anxious.
Cara's thought process is equal parts creativity and logic—though not incapable of thinking outside the box, she does her best to apply calculated reason to any given problem that she must tackle.
History: Cara Siger's life has, to date, been reasonably peaceful—with the majority of tumult and strife taking place in her adolescence.
Cara's muggle parents were nonplussed, indeed, when her wispy newborn's hair began to change color! Later on that very evening they would receive two muggle liaisons from the Ministry of Magic, and thus be allowed to traverse the veil that separated most non-magical folk from the world of witches, wizards and magic.
Of course, the Sigers would not expressly entangle themselves with this new world for approximately eleven years, when their newborn daughter came of an age to enroll in Hogwarts. They were, however, made thoroughly aware of Cara's probable abilities as a metamorphmagus, and the likelihood of magical occurrences throughout her youth.
Carrick was, said and done, a rather lovely place to grow up. Mr. Siger took the Downshire railway to Belfast for work every morning, and returned every evening to his doting homemaker wife. Mr. Siger, employed in the fast-growing communications industry, made a significant amount of money through the mergers and acquisitions of various smaller businesses, and was able to treat his wife and daughter to a decent-sized two story on a respectable acre of land just outside of town.
As she grew and developed, Cara's parents informed her of the secondary world to which she would one day belong—if only to enlighten her as to why, at times, her body shifted shapes of its own accord. In her youth, Cara's peers, neighbors, and sometimes complete strangers were paid visits by Improper Use of Magic employees, her powers—difficult to control—necessitating memory modification.
The frequency of these incidents only intensified as Cara entered institutes of non-magical education. The Sigers enrolled little Cara in private schools, both to acquire for her a more thorough and complete education and to reduce the number of classmates that she regularly interacted with—but this did not always prevent emotional outbursts from significantly altering her physique or visage, or otherwise provoking unintentional displays of magic.
Cara's powers, unique and hard to tame, often inspired in her feelings of ostracization, and resentment towards this magical world that she had yet to be initiated into. Her parents, under advisory from ministry officials with whom they were in contact, had purchased for Cara what sparse literature existed on the subject of metamorphmagi—but, at the end of the day, she found that they were not exhaustive, and often unhelpful. What's more, her parents, muggles through and through, were incapable of offering significant insight or advice into her condition—though their love, affection, and support was invaluable.
Mr. and Mrs. Siger were Cara's indefatigable advocates, forever in her corner. Though they were notably loving parents—thus instilling a great sense of loyalty and kindness in their daughter—they were not without restrictions, particularly given Cara's unique abilities. Summers were spent vacationing, either abroad in mainland Europe or at relatives' homes in Ireland proper.
By eleven years of age, Cara had attained some control of her power, only faltering in moments of serious emotional anguish or extreme stress—both of which were uncommon enough, given her youth and quiet home life—and received her letter of admission to Hogwarts. With the help of a muggle liaison, the Sigers journeyed to Diagon Alley, opened an account at Gringotts, and equipped Cara for her first year at school.
Attending Hogwarts and being inducted into the world of magic was, to say the least, a bit of a culture shock to the young girl. Her first year was particularly difficult as she struggled to get a handle on her new responsibilities and studies, and—through the help of new wizard-born friends—learned as much as she could about this strange, alien world to which she now belonged. The two bright spots of her first year at Hogwarts were how quickly she grasped many of her subjects, only stumbling in the subjects of Herbology and Potions; and how her abilities as a metamorphmagus—rather than befuddling her peers and marking her as an outcast—seemed to enthrall her fellow students. Some of them had heard of metamorphmagi before, but few among them had seen it first-hand, and Cara's ability to shapeshift at will was a never ending source of awe and amusement to excited onlookers.
Cara's second, third, and fourth years at Hogwarts were rather unremarkable—aside from the demolishing of the hospital wing in her second year; observing the rather exciting TetraWizard Tournament in her third year; and the allowance of werewolf students in her fourth year.
As her emotional maturity developed, so did her powers as a metamorphmagus, both her talent as a shapeshifter and her control over her abilities growing. She continued to place very well in all of her subjects, with the exception of Herbology and Potions, in which she hovered between average and not so average.
She is, as of now, a fifth year student at Hogwarts.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Cara's powers as a metamorphmagus have often made life difficult—a significant cut above the irregularity of the wizarding world and the shock of entering it as a muggleborn student. Overcoming these struggles and taming her powers to the degree that she has instilled in Cara a sense of self-confidence and courage that she carries with her on a day-to-day basis.
Besides that, she also very specifically asked the sorting hat to place her in Gryffindor, rather than Ravenclaw, as it dithered between the two. Ever fond of fantastic tales featuring brave and bold heroes, she saw Gryffindor house as indicative of a heroic nature that your average person did not possess.
Writing Sample: The summers between school years at Hogwarts were, more or less, a drag. Separation from the world of magic that she had come to inhabit was almost debilitating, given that her thoroughly muggle parents could provide her with no significant connection to her magical peers from June to September—aside from the occasional week or two spent at a friend's house and owl-based correspondence.
It did, however, give her the chance to catch up with the smattering of muggle friends that she had kept up with since enrolling in Hogwarts almost five years prior. She accomplished this with a somewhat outdated smartphone that, from September to June, lived in the dusty drawer in her bedroom in Carrick.
July threatened to be particularly fun this year, however, with a looming performance from Cara's favorite muggle band at Oxegen in Naas—which she was currently texting her best non-magical friend regarding.
"Still need to pop the question to my parents, love," she thumbed, "but not looking forward to two hours on the M1 with your brother, even to see the Keys!"
The phone blooped and the SMS was ushered away, and Cara jumped up from her bed to head downstairs and see her mother, who was currently folded up on the couch in the living room, watching some gaudy soap on satellite.
The entire Siger household radiated an earthy warmth, dark tones and shades of burgundy suggesting a very warm, very welcome environment in which to nap—but the dingy red three-seater that Mrs. Siger was lounging upon was Cara's favorite piece in the house, as she had herself picked it out. It was worn and frayed, and the springs on the right side of the couch had begun to sag, but it was undeniably comfortable.
"Mam," Cara greeted brightly, collapsing onto her mother—who groaned at the abrupt attack, and then laughed.
"Sweet, beautiful mother of mine," Cara went on in that lilting Northern Irish tone.
"What do you want?" Mrs. Siger asked patiently, unfooled by Cara's abrupt and thickly laid on pleasantries.
Cara made her pitch in one huffy request, eager to get it out in the air and be done with it: "Jenny's brother Mark got four tickets to Oxegen and she wants me to go with on the ninth, pretty please!"
"You'll be home past curfew, I take it?"
"I'd expect so, yeah—four hour round trip to Naas, plus dinner and the show."
"I'll talk it over with your da," Mrs. Siger decided.
"Ack—maaam," Cara whined, turning her mouth upside down in a pronounced frown, screwing up her eyes as if to sob. "They're my favorite band! You know da'll say no, he always does."
"Hush, Cara," Mrs. Siger intoned, muting the television with a remote. "I'll talk to your da. Don't look at me like that—I'll vouch for you, if you like, but if I told you yes without askin', it's my feet he'd rake over the coals, sweetie."
"Fine," Cara replied, frumping down into a corner of the couch and crossing her arms petulantly.
"You know," Mrs. Siger began, lowering her voice conspiratorially, "if ye'd actually finish your chores before your da gets home, he might be more inclined to say yes."
"Ack! Fine," Cara conceded, jumping up from the couch with an unidentifiable, aggravated noise.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Cara Siger is a sixteen year old fifth year Gryffindor, particularly talented in Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts—and not so swell with Herbology and Potions—that has the unique innate ability to shapeshift at will, also known as a metamorphmagus. She's a good and loyal friend, despite a rough frankness when it comes to expressing her thoughts and a tendency towards giving as good as she gets. She hails from Northern Ireland and is muggleborn.
