Raine was good, very good, Dan thought as she caught the quaffle. He'd never seen a keeper stop one of his kicks before. He had to think of something new to get past her, especially one on one. He caught the quaffle and flew away to gain momentum before diving back towards the hoops flying as fast as he dared.

He tossed the quaffle from hand to hand trying to distract the talented keeper while he flew straight at her keeping his eyes locked on her trying to predict where she would go. As he got closer he realised that wasn't going to work and decided to try something different. He shot straight at her getting very close before throwing at his full strength towards the right hand hoop trying to beat her own speed with the speed of his own shot. It was moments like this he appreciated being as strong as he was, the quaffle absolutely flying from his hand with a mean backspin.

He had no doubt she would have a better chance of stopping this if she had been wearing her quidditch gloves.

She was glad to see Daniel start on his second try right away, obviously focused on his goal rather than on saving face - some of the players who tried out would fill the silence with bluster. Or worse, make excuses for their misses. Duffy was simply intent on doing what he was supposed to do... and doing it well.

Raine had been in her head too long. The Gryffindor made an irritated noise, nearly leaving her broom handle as she flung herself towards the hoop the quaffle was destined for; but it was much too late. Her fingers barely grazed it and the ball slipped right through.

Losing her irritation quickly, she dove to catch the quaffle on the other side before it could drop down to the pitch. Raine righted her broom and glanced up at where her younger housemate was floating. "Alright!" she called out before gesturing downwards to indicate they should get on solid ground.

"Not bad. And we do need a Chaser!" she remarked, winding down towards the green with a shrug that was equal parts unimpressed and pleased.

Dan smiled proudly, he loved beating a really good keeper, in fact he just loved scoring goals. He followed Raine down to the ground removing his gloves as he did.

"Thanks, you were really close to that one and the one before..." He shook his head "I've never seen anyone stop a shot like that" He was clearly in awe of the older keeper and smiled hoping he would get to play with her instead of practicing against her. He caught himself smiling like an idiot and stopped, instead adopting the relaxed smirk that usually plastered his face. He got off his broom with practiced ease and swung it over his shoulder. He was barely sweating but his neck kinda hurt so he stretched it out making a loud cracking noise.

"So when will I find out if I made the squad?" He asked humbly not knowing if he'd done enough.

Duffy was obviously excited about Quidditch, in the way that only boys who wanted to do it for a living could be. They hadn't even played a proper game and he was happy as a Hippogriff about scoring a quaffle! Raine supposed she couldn't really hold it against him. It was better to have enthusiastic players who actually played instead of people who took forever to make their move on the pitch.

The older witch disembarked, pulling her broom close to her with one hand and cradling the quaffle in the other. She smirked at the loud crack in his neck.

"Next time you do stretches first," she remarked and shoved the quaffle at him. "And you've made the squad already. I'm captain, aren't I? Drop by the pitch when we're practicing after lessons tomorrow."

Raine pulled off her flying goggles before shaking out her curls, grinning. Flying was a thrill but she was happy to be on the ground now. "Get there early."

"Early?" Dan laughed "Don't worry, I'm only late to classes," He didn't even bother to hide the cheeky smile this time. "Thanks for putting me on the team, I really appreciate it. I won't let you down."
Making sure the broom was sitting comfortably he started to jog back up to the castle at a cracking pace, he didn't get to be as fit as he was by walking everywhere. At least his uncle would be happy he'd finally tried out for, and made, the team.
