Rav is thin. He dresses very smartly. He likes fine cloth. He wears a lot of black and grey shades with white shirts. Lots of his robes have intricate patterns. They have magic thread which glitters and repels dirt. Sometimes he wears velvets. He always wears his kaṛā (circular steel bracelet). He is always smartly dressed.

Rav is not tall. He has long bony fingers. He has a fairly big nose. He holds a stare. He is good at keeping a straight face. He looks strict. When he smiles he has lots of teeth.

Rav has a British accent. He grew up in London and it shows when he says some words. He can speak fluent Punjabi. He was brought up to speak it at home.

    Personality Description:
Rav was a hatstall. It could not decide between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Rav is glad it chose Gryffindor. It made him confident. Rav has always been mature. He looked after his siblings. He is the oldest. He has a lot of patience which is good for a teacher. Rav is prepared to work really hard to get where he wants. He is very disciplined.

He expects his students to put in as much work as he did. He will be kinder to students who work hard.

Rav is a vegetarian. He does not drink because of his religion. He follows his Sikh faith and prays and meditates. Sikhs believe in faith and meditation on the name of the one creator, unity and equality of all humankind. They believe in engaging in selfless service, striving for social justice for the benefit and prosperity of all and honest conduct. Rav does his best to follow this.

He meditates but Sikhs believe meditation is unfruitful without service and action. Selfless service, called sēvā, and charitable work enables Sikhs to "kill the ego". Service in Sikhism takes three forms: "Tan" - physical service; "Man" - mental service (such as studying to help others); and "Dhan" - material service. Guru Nanak stressed kirat karō: that a Sikh should balance work, worship, and charity, and should defend the rights of all human beings.

He does not try to convert people to his religion. That is not the Sikh way. He will tell them about it if they ask. He does not have to marry a Sikh either. He believes in reincarnation and karma. He plays the Esraj.

    History:
Ravindar was born in Punjab, India in December 1974. He was the first child his parents had. When he was a few years old the family moved to England. His father is a wizard but his mother is a muggle. His father brought the family to England to do research in the Ministry of Magic. He became an unspeakable.

The family are all Sikhs. Ravindar got his name because when a child is born, Sikhs open the Guru Granth Sahib at a random point. The child is named using the first letter on the top left hand corner of the left page. His name means the god of sun and knowledge. All boys are given the last name Singh.

In England they lived in London near to other Sikh families. Ravindar's uncle already moved to England. His parents taught him when he was little. Rav was excited to go to Hogwarts. He was very excited to have his own wand. He wanted to study everything. He adored Minerva McGonnagal. He loved transfiguration. It was hard but he wanted to do well. He read lots about it.

Rav was a prefect. He scored very high in his NEWTs. He studied to be an animagus (he is a bengal tiger). He got the Transfiguration Today Most Promising Newcomer Award when he left Hogwarts. Minerva nominated him. She had won it when she was his age. He went to Laevenstrome's Fundunct of Sorcery. He studied fundamental and elemental laws. He wanted to write books and publish his research.

He went away and studied other types of magic. First he was invited to Jamaica by a classmate. He observed. He tried to practice some. But he came back to look after his family when war broke out. Then when it was over he went away again.

This time he went to India where he was born. In India magic is mixed with religion and mysticism. Magic is taught by the family. He travelled up and down the country. He met with the best in each community. He wrote what he learned in a book. He taught people about being an animagus. Rav set up a school for magical street children in Punjab with some help. It is still running. He liked teaching but want to keep learning. He wanted to travel again.

He travelled in Asia. The magic was very different. He wrote books for older students about the differences. He wants to encourage them to study after school. He dedicated the first one to his dad and Minerva. For inspiring him to never stop learning. Rav went back to America. He taught Transfiguration at Red Rocks Academy.

Rav likes sharing his knowledge. He will always cook for and help people if they need help. He offered to work at Hogwarts when he heard Professor Hughes was going to be an auror again. He wrote to Minerva.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Ravindar teaches Transfiguration. He teaches all the first, second, third, fourth and fifth years. He teaches the sixth and seventh years who want to study Transfiguration for their NEWTs. He is patient. He expects his students to put in lots of effort. He sometimes forgets to encourage. He is working on that. He listens a lot. He does not like gossip. He tries to balance theory and practical. He makes an effort to learn all their names.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Ravindar has a NEWT in transfiguration. He won an award. He is an animagus. He went to Laevenstrome and studied more. He went away and studied even more. Then he taught. He wrote lots of books.
