[Feb 3-] Succulents are plantastic [Amaryllis]

on August 25, 2016, 06:42:44 PM

At around 3:00 on February 3rd, an embarrassed looking young man delivers a colorful vase full of succulents to Amaryllis Woolfolk on level 3. Attached to the vase is a yellow envelope.

Amaryllis,

I hope you are doing well and that our most recent encounter didn't traumatize you. I apologize for my no-sense while we had coffee the other day. However, I cannot promise to maintain a sense of "no no-sense-ity" in your presence, or in anybody else's presence for that matter.

Henrietta sends her regards. I think she enjoyed your company as much as you enjoyed hers. Would you be willing to have coffee with us again sometime? Maybe something to eat to go with it? What I'm trying to say is, would you like to share a meal with me sometime in the near future? My treat.

As a side note: not only are these succulents beautiful and home-grown, if you break off a piece, the gel inside will heal any minor cuts or burns. Cats also enjoy chewing on them, though they are nontoxic and have a tendency to numb your tongue. Who am I to judge what cats like to chew on?

Sincerely,

Flynn

Oh my Merlin, Flynn!

These are so beautiful! How did you know that opalescence was my favorite color?? I couldn't believe that they were from a stranger. I kept thanking and thanking the nice young man who delivered them. Turns out they weren't from a stranger. (My bad.) It's much nicer to get glorious succulents from someone you know, of course.  And at work! It was shaping up to be a rubbish day, but I put them on my desk and here they are, as I write this note just smiling at me. Succulents don't smile, of course. I know that. I mean figuratively.  I can't help but smile.  And of course they would be practical. You'll have to be careful, Mr No-No-Sense.  You may lose your title.  That was pretty sensible + sensical.  Double-sense.

And I realize after all those words, I haven't even said thank you! Well, here it is: thank you. I'd love to have coffee and maybe something to eat to go with it sometime in the near future. :) When works for you? Name a time and place! Until then, I'll just enjoy these succulents!

Have a great rest of your day, Flynn.

Best wishes,
Maree

Maree,

I'm so glad you appreciate the succulents! I had no idea that opalescence was a colour! I suppose the saying is true, you do learn something new every day. My sister told me that most people don't appreciate being sent succulents instead of flowers, but she said that as long as it had practical uses, it would be fine.

Oh no! Whatever would I do without my no-no-sense title? I don't think I could live with myself.

What kind of food do you like? Do you have any favorite places? I am available on the 13th or the 15th. I will be having a birthday party on the 14th at Death & Co. if you would like to stop by, but that is a separate event. I would like to take you somewhere besides a social gathering!

Sincerely,
Flynn

February 6, evening

Flynn,

You do learn something every day! Today I learned your birthday, after all.  And since we're learning and teaching in turn, I suppose I ought to give you the right information.  Opalescence, I guess, isn't a color. It's technically a spectrum or assemblage of colors. So I suppose opalescence can be my favorite two-color spectrum. If we're being technical, and I can't pick that as my favorite, next favorite color would be blue. Or mint green! Or pink.  Or I could just pick opalescence again, because it's all those colors. It's the lazy person's favorite color.

But enough about colors--we've got your birthday to discuss, St. Valentine! I would love to join. I can't believe you were born on February 14th! Do you ever resent those fat cherubs that delivered messages at Hogwarts, standing you up and getting all of the attention? I don't think I'd ever enjoy sharing my birthday with a major holiday. But maybe you like it! Maybe your flat actually looks like Madam Puddifoot's year-round?  Still, I can't think, if you're celebrating at Death & Co, that Puddifoot's is much to your liking.  What time on the 14th?

As for my likings--I'm not picky![1] Italian food, Thai food, anything, really![2]  How about we do the 19th, if that works. I always worry that work will run over, but I definitely have the time off then. If that doesn't work, though, we can pick another time! I'm looking forward to it!

Hope your day is going well!
Maree
 1. Not entirely true.
 2.  Really. Pick Italian.

February 7, morning

Amaryllis,

There's no rule that says you can't have more than one favorite colour! I like red and orange. But I like green and brown too! But is there really such a thing as an ugly colour?

We are starting drinks at 7:00 on the 14th. I don't mind sharing a birthday with a major holiday-- it's better than having an April Fool's birthday![1] I have not been to Puddifoot's since I was at Hogwarts. All I remember is that it is very pink. If I remember correctly, it is also very werewolf friendly. I think it's important to support businesses who are welcoming to all sorts. My flat looks more like a cluttered nerd lives there-- books and parchment all over the place.

Since Italian food is the very first one you listed, it was probably the first that came to mind! Would you like to have dinner with me at Ascendio Italiano? My sister recommends it, though I haven't been. The 19th is absolutely perfect. Does 5:00 or 6:00 work for you?

Sincerely
Have a nice
From?

Flynn
