Lawrence was speechless, though a hundred retorts poised on his tongue to Hannah’s declaration that she wanted to die. I have woken many mornings disappointed I haven’t in my sleep. He thought inwardly, and other mornings thanking Merlin he was still alive. He inclined backwards against the kitchen units, brows drawn straight and low over his brown eyes. The way she said it. She’d either made up her mind to end it all (in which case had she come to say some sort of good bye, or to see if he would talk her out of it?) or this was some very strange bluff. Or trap.

He blinked a second after she finished, No, this wasn’t suicide. Hannah wasn’t sentimental enough to have come here to tell him her plans or ask him to talk her out of it. She made up her mind and did things. She knew more potions and poisons than he’d had days in Azkaban. ‘Awakened free’ sounded strange. No sign of any religious tendencies in the flat or in her routine in the days he’d lived with her.

It was a good twenty seconds before Lawrence cocked his head to the right and narrowed his eyes at her.
“My mistake?” He muttered, “Is that what we’re calling it?” He let out a low, irritated sigh. “Is this the only way?” He scowled, “You can’t … once they’re … they don’t wake up, Hannah.” If she was suggesting what he thought she was suggesting, he wasn’t going to say it aloud.

Unsurprisingly, Lawrence was stunned, confused. Hannah knew her uncle had enough smarts about him to figure it out. He needed to have because she couldn’t word her plan any other way. He’d work his mind around it soon enough. Perhaps he just needed a chance to reconsider her words to understand what she needed from him.

You can’t … once they’re … they don’t wake up, Hannah.” He was worried, nervous. Good.

“You’ll find a way.” The young witch said calmly. “You’ll find someone to wake me up, Uncle. You’ll make things better.” Her gaze was direct, unrelenting as she spoke. She let her eyes linger on his for a few more moments. “I’ll be in touch.”

With that, the witch turned on her heel and walked towards the door of the flat. She had done what she needed to do.
