Physical Description: Ellie is tall- standing at 5'11". She's thin- mostly because she walks everywhere and is always trying to keep busy because she's not the happiest person. Permelia when she's not at work tends to dress more of a muggle fashion- mostly because she finds it more comfortable and it seems to be less of a reminder that she's a squib if she isn't wearing robes. Her hair is dark and falls past her shoulders. Ellie has freckles, a bright smile (when she smiles), thick dark brows, and a down turned match. If she's not inside you'd be hard pressed to find her without a cigarette hanging out of her mouth.


Personality Description: Upon first meeting Permelia, you'd know right away that she isn't satisfied with her current life. She's a squib and she hates it- mostly because her family made her hate herself. She doesn't have a lot of self confidence and has a lot of pent up rage- but now that she's on her own she is slowly learning to cope with it. Ellie thinks that she isn't worth much because she can't do magic- but hopefully that will change one day.

At work she's extra grumpy and curt. She's probably only kept her job out of pity. She fulfills the basic requirements of course. People who work there who show her kindness or friendship can get on her good side and she'll smile at them. But the standard people showing up to ask questions and meet with people she's not overly friendly with. Permelia has made some friends in the ministry- so there has to be at least some level of knowledge that she isn't just a grump and nothing more.

Lately Permelia has been actively trying to meet more people and make some friends. She's found that outside of the pureblood world that people seem to be less inclined to judge her for being a squib. She's lonely and she recognizes it- but opening up to people is hard and her interactions seem forced until she grows comfortable with people. But at least she is putting effort into making new relationships and getting to know people. Permelia likes to go out for drinks and that definitely loosens her up and causes her to smile and reach out more.

With people she likes and is close to, Permelia really blossoms into a different person. She's jovial, talkative, and loves to share her interests. She does a lot of reading because she has the spare time and enjoys learning about all kinds of stuff since she never had the chance to learn magic. Ellie is actually intelligent- just in different ways than a lot of other witches and wizards. She likes growing plants and has them all over her house and believes if she had magic talent that she would be a great herbologist.


History: The Selwyn family has long prided itself on their pureblood status. And that fact was never lost on Ellie while she was growing up. She heard all about the importance of blood purity, maintaining heritage, and reputation while growing up. She expected she'd one day be a great witch- because every Selwyn was- even if she didn't understand all the blood purity stuff they were talking about.

But her Hogwarts letter never came. Permelia didn't even know what a squib was until she found out that she was one. And it was the most devastating news she ever received in her life. Ellie's place as mommy's princess was ruined. She was often reminded afterwards that she was lucky they had even kept her, she was a stain on the family, and most families in their position would have sent her to live with some distant relative or gotten rid of her in general. It was difficult for a child to deal with this. Especially difficult for Permelia because she had always been sensitive to criticism.

As she got older Permelia began to dislike herself. She thought of herself as defective. Ellie had no idea what she was going to do as an adult. She ran away when she was fifteen- stayed gone for half a year- living homeless in London as a muggle. Eventually she came back home after she realized that her life couldn't function in the muggle world either. She didn't fit in anywhere. Permelia wasn't a witch, she couldn't live as a muggle, she was just an outcast in general. Her parents were reluctant to let her come back when she returned home- but her big brother threatened to tell everyone in their circles they had let their daughter run away and be a muggle if they didn't. Until that moment Ellie had never realized the fact that her brother genuinely cared about her or gave a damn- she had always lumped him in with the rest of her family. It's one of the few happy memories of her life at home.

As soon as she was of legal age they told her it was time to make her own way in the world and kicked her out. Permelia couch surfed for a few months until she managed to get hired on as a Welcome Witch for the Ministry of Magic. After getting a few paychecks under her belt Ellie got a small apartment in Diagon Alley so she would be able to get to and from work with ease. It's a plain one bedroom, but it is furnished well since she spends so much time there and she finds comfort in spending her money.



Describe your job duties and how you go about them: She sits at the desk and points people in the right direction within the ministry. Permelia also opens mail, responds to some, and directs it to the right place. More or less she is a secretary for the ministry of magic. It's not glamorous, but it pays the bills.


Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Permelia doesn't really have any expertise. She's a squib and the welcome witch position doesn't require any magical skill- just secretarial work mostly. Pointing people in the right direction, opening and replying to mail, things of that nature. A skilled monkey could do her job. And she knows it. And she hates it.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Permelia is basically a grumpy, pureblood squib. She works at the ministry, chain smokes on her breaks, and isn't the most pleasant of people. Perm is bitter about not having magic and is still learning to cope- it's been harder being surrounded by talented witches and wizards. She's just trying to make her way in the world and figure out who she is and discover some sense of self worth.
