Full Character Name: Zinnia Lin Kinley
Character Birthday & Age: May 22nd, 1993
City & Country of Birth: Oxford
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
House & Year: Slytherin, 7th year
Wand: Willow, Unicorn hair, 12 1/2 inches, bendy. Meant for charm work. Unruly, and fully protective of Zinnia, the wand is in poor shape, but it seems to not effect the performance of the wand, as Zinnia polishes and treats it regularly.
Physical Description: Zinnia is a Metamorphmagus. Her appearance changes at will, but she is most comfortable with brown hair, long enough that she has to put it up, in the messiest bun you have ever seen for classes. It goes well past her shoulders, and she almost never appears without it shorter than that. Her brown eyes hover between dark and honey colored depending on the day. Eye color manipulation is her weakness, She does it just because she knows she can. It's a subtle change that she makes her feel better about herself. She has a willowy frame, akin to a dancer, though she's never had that predilection. She is petite, at 4'11 and prefers to keep herself that way. She won't change her height on purpose. She's comfortable in her own skin, happy with the face she was born with, but if you catch her at the right moment she'll change her appearance in the common room for giggles, or in class to confuse a professor. She prefers to dress as comfortably as possible when not in her school uniform. this includes dresses and all manner of skirts, or as she calls them, 'clothing for lazy people.'
Personality Description: Underestimated, is the word that comes to mind for Zinnia. Where as her best friend is loud enough to get your attention, she is the one in the back plotting how to make you bend to her will with a manipulation skill that is so well honed most people don't know they are being played with. Her mother used to joke that she would make a wonderful criminal defense lawyer, and Zin took those words to heart. She defends her friends, and is loyal, almost blindly, so much so that the sorting hat toyed with placing her in Gryffindor, like the rest of her family that attended Hogwarts, her two cousins. But her Slytherin characteristics over powered that. The ability to bend others to her will, the sense of nobility, her ridiculous sense of entitlement, and her gift for politics and semantics.
She's incredible with problem solving, wether it be puzzles or figuring out the lie in a stack of truths. Her biggest weakness is her dreaming, coming up with half baked schemes and ideas that she is forever trying to drag her friends on for the ride, which almost always work out, no matter how many loose ends she leaves. She steadfastly refuses to manipulate her friends, and will do everything she can to avoid it. She remembers how awful it was to lose her friends as a child and will do anything to keep them round.
Even after watching her parents, and seeing how much they love each other, she isn't sure love is for her. She's skeptical that someone could come into her already pretty perfect life, and make her feel like no one else matters, like the sun rises and sets with them, and if she is honest with herself she isn't sure she want's that. Seeing her classmates struggle is enough. Love just seems painful to her.
History: Born late in her parent's lives, Zinnia Lin Kinley, was a half Irish, half English adorable little moppet, who was the apple of her parent's eyes. Her father, a half blood wizard, bought her her first broom stick at 3 years old, and her mother made sure she always had a healthy lunch packed and a snack waiting for her when she came home. She was spoiled. She was loved. She was wanted. Cared for. But quiet, unusually so. It bothered her mother so much that she insisted they take her to magical and muggle doctors alike. None could say why the girl only spoke when she had to. Why she preferred to point, instead of asking for her milk. Why, as a rule, the other wise loving child stopped wanting to be touched, to be cuddled, or held, when she turned 8.
Finally, after years of therapy, doctors visits and family meetings, Zinnia found the words she wanted to say. "When I do speak, you listen. When I do want attention, it means more. I just want to know that you see me." Her mother was devastated that her little girl didn't feel the love she had for her. Devorah swore she would protect her daughter, and make her feel cared for. Seamus knew better, and after the girl went to bed, he sat Devorah down and told her that they needed to love their little girl the way she asked. That it didn't changed how much they loved her, that it was about Zinnia's comfort level
Her 10th birthday came, and her father sat Zinni down to tell her, she was a witch. He had noticed her magical talent at a young age when her hair would change color as a baby. When it happened one day during school, Zinni panicked, this caused her parents to quickly pull her from school and start teaching her themselves. Later on as she grew older, her ability grew stronger.. She came down stairs one morning clutching her toy rabbit, with her eyes bright baby blue and bubble gum pink hair. She looked like she had gotten stuck in a cotton candy machine.
When her 11th birthday came around Zinnia was waiting up at midnight for her letter, even though her father had told her it wouldn't be there until summer. She didn't care. She was too excited to sleep and very ready for the day to start. In her mind, 11 meant she was a real witch.
She was shipped off to Hogwarts, where her family, was already in attendance. Violet, her older cousin, a a 7th year Gryffindor, and Daisy, a 5th year Gryffindor. They expressed disappointment that their beloved cousin was now a Snake, but loved her none the less. She drew inwards at school even more so, scared that the ability she was born with would make her less liked, and fought as hard as she could to keep it under wraps. The fear only grew when she though about how her parents made her leave her friends, and school, because she was different. Instead of rejecting her, the students of her house and even her Lion cousins made her feeling welcome, introducing her to her best friend, Sophie Flickwick.
Zin tried out for Keeper in her third year and was absolutely destroyed in the tryouts, since then she has tried out every year, and hopes to make team before she graduates. The rest of her time at Hogwarts was spent pulling herself out of her shell, and trying to learn to use her ability under control, and perfect it. She developed a love of potions, and noticed she had a talent for it, and it was the only time she had ever questioned her life long goal of wanting to have a career in magical law. The potions classroom was an escape for her, and her father especially, has told her to follow her talent as much as she can. It was the only class she received top marks in of her OWLs. The rest she passed with A's and E's, but it was very clear that potions was her true love. It's really just about the only thing she is known for in school. Need a quick hangover cure, or any cure, really. Zinnia is there. But unless you are a close personal friend, its going to cost you. She's developed quite the little side business, too. Can't blame a Slytherin for making money off other people's mistakes.

Writing Sample: Zinnia slipped out of her day dream. Her biggest pet peeve was when people bothered her when she was clearly not all there. Then she looked up.
"You have honestly got to be kidding me."
Liam, her first and only ex, and the literary last person she wanted to see at this very moment had just sat down at her table. Granted, she didn't want to see anyone right now. She clamped her hand over her out after she realized the words were well out of her mouth. Zin was surprised at how bad she genuinely felt. she hadn't meant to insult him, it was just that, seeing him threw her for a loop.
She would never admit it, but she cared for him. Well, she'd admit to it if you gave her enough liquor. it wasn't lack of care that killed their relationship. It was her lack of want for the relationship. he got way too into her way too fast and Zinnia ran as fast as she could.
Every few weeks she would regret it. Liam understood her drive, and never held it against her. She'd wonder about him, wonder how he was, and think about asking him to meet in Hogsmeade. He genuinely cared for her. Sometimes she really thought she made a mistake, but it was too late now.
And here he was. right in front of her, with a cup of coffee, looking like he was going to make himself comfortable.
"You.. I mean.. hi?
as she stumbled over her words, she felt a tiny blush creep over her cheeks. She'd been alone so damn long, it was nice to even see an ex boyfriend.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Quiet, withdrawn, fading into the background, you'll never see Zinnia coming for you, and she prefers it that way. She likes to hide, to strike at the opportune moment, to make the best of her chances. She's a snake in the best sense, but a friendly, non poisonous one.
