History: Olivia Amara Davenport is the only daughter of Alice Davenport and Richard Monroe and is much loved by her parents in their own peculiar ways. Her father is a scientist who worked hard to get his position in a famed muggle research lab. Her mother is an interpreter for the British government. They’d met at a conference where her mum was translating and her father was giving a lecture. There was mutual attraction and over the course of several years they kept meeting up whenever her mum was in town often spending weeks at a time together. However, they both saw other people except during the times they were together. It was an odd arrangement that suited them. Both were highly career oriented and weren’t not the type for sentimental attachments. They cared for each other deeply and were physically attracted but they were not in love. Olivia came about because the birth control had failed. Alice had been 39 and Richard 44. After careful consideration they decided to keep the child since they both had excellent genes and any offspring of theirs had to be brilliant.
Her childhood was privileged. Olivia had the best nanny, a kind Egyptian woman, private tutors and anything she ever desired. From birth her routine was regulated. Her parents had studied extensively on the subject and thought they had the perfect plan to raise a child. Her diet was carefully controlled to prevent her from getting autism, she began to learn piano at the age of 4. She was expected not to yell or cry or tell tall tales or show that she was upset. To show too much emotion gave someone power over you, plus it was just “not done”. When she was six she attended a prestigious private school where she was expected to do well. She traveled with her mother forma young age. One of her favorite pictures with her mum was a picture in front of Peter Pan’s flight at Tokyo Disney. It was the only time she went to a theme park. She’d been seven and it had been a gift from an emissary.
While her parents expected a lot from her, they loved her. She knew they cared for her or otherwise they’d just send her off to boarding school. She divided her time between both her parents it wasn’t necessarily equal. It depended on her mother’s assignments. Her parents were kind to each other, but they often bickered about the best way of raising her. Her father wanted more science to be empathized and her mother preferred more of what her father called softer subjects, art, history and languages.
When she was eleven her parents were blindsided by the visit of a teacher from a special school called Hogwarts. Neither had ever wanted to think that their daughter was magical. They didn’t believe in magic only hard scientifically prove facts. At first they thought the person calming magic was real was insane. They’d threatened to call the police. It had taken several demonstrations for them to realize that maybe magic was real.
Learning about magic was strange. As a child she had believed in fairies and magic but her parents hadn’t approved of such things. They had said that there was no such thing as magic just good science. Her first trip to Diagon Alley was overwhelming. Her nanny had taken her instead of her parents who just couldn’t handle the reality of it all. They called Olivia’s magic her special talent. They told her friends that she went to a prestigious boarding school.
Hogwarts was very different than what Olivia was use to. For the first time in her life she didn’t have everything regulated. She tried bangers and mash for the first time. It had been surprisingly tasty. She made very few friends. It was hard to open up to her peers. She didn’t understand the magical world and her life as a muggle had been very sheltered. She studied hard, spending a lot of time in the library. She was determined to prove to her parents that she could do well in the magical world, that just because she was a witch didn’t mean she wasn’t like them.
That first summer back was very awkward. Her parents asked three questions about school and then completely ignored it. They pretended that magic didn’t exist and locked up her spells books as soon as she got home. She fell back into her routine. She attended music lessons, scheduled play groups, tutoring in math, science, history, reading, French and Arabic.
At Hogwarts, Olivia relaxed more. She was less rigid than she was in the muggle world. However, she couldn’t completely relax as her mother’s voice constantly nagged at her. She made several friends and did well in her classes for the most part. She’s kept her head down and muddled through. Now, she’s fifteen and bored. She’s starting to worry about her future. What was she going to do with her life? Her parents talked about her going to muggle university after she completed her training in how to control her “special talent”. She was thinking about doing some kind of ministry job. She isn’t sure if she belongs in the magical world or the muggle.
Her best subjects are potions and transfiguration. She likes the preciseness and concentration needed for them. She also has rather enjoyed taking ancient runes because it's like learning another language.
