[June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! on July 06, 2009, 09:50:32 PM There were very few ‘normal’ days at Hogwarts. At most people would consider normal anyway. In the wizarding world normal would be defined by being pranked by a poltergeist, goosed by a ghost, bashed by a banshee and mauled by… and all of this before breakfast.Kendall Fleetfoot strode down the same stretch of hallway on the third floor for the fourth time that morning. It was his fourth set of robes, fourth shower and third time trying to forget the meal in the Great Hall. What the ghosts had done with eggs seemed criminal. It was bad enough that he was constantly on edge since that morning nearly a month ago that he had woken with Morrigan Ramsay in his arms. She had smelt of jasmine and had this cute little snort… This had to stop. He had becomed obsessed with every little thing Morrigan did, or the way her hair looked, or the smell of her perfume, or the way her robes fit just so over her…Distraction is not always the best thing, and distracted was exactly what Kendall was when he strode purposefully into the classroom, book to his face even if he wasn’t reading a thing. He was on autopilot moving to the front of the classroom, down the center isle not bothering to look up. After all he was thee new professor and wasn’t expected to start classes until next term… right? The sound of a wand, that was not his own clattering to the floor, and a soft coughing sound brought Kendall’s eyes from the tome he carried. In front of him sat a full class of mixed years, and all houses. Some eager minds, some curious as to the new professor, and some seemingly bored with the whole thing. “Oh Merlin’s Beard!”Kendall scrambled to the front of his desk, trying desperately to think of what he could do for this group. “Ah-Hem. Yes well it seems that you are all a bit early you see.” he tried to smile a disarming smile. “I know you were introduced to me at…” Kendall then remembered that he had yet to make an appearance at the scheduled meal times, generally reserving the first part of the morning to sleep, then most of the mid-day to research, and mainly eating a simple supper in his chambers.“I guess not. Alright. I am Professor Fleetfoot, your new Charms professor. So I guess you need to tell me who you are since I am not officially aware of a roster for this term.” There were a few slumped shoulders from the middle of the room. “Alright fine. We’ll do things the hard way.” Taking out his wand from the hip holster as if drawing a cavalry sword, Kendall then waved his wand in an intricate pattern of triangles joined with concentric circles and the odd poke or pull, ending with the most delicate of flicks.Above the students the room became dark then stars lit the blackness of the ceiling. Zooming comets dashed across the room while spinning nebulae moved around the room. “This is one of my favorites. Reminds me of a line from a great muggle book. ’Space it says is big. Really big. You won’t believe how vastly, hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. You may think it is a long way to the chemists but that’s just peanuts to space!’ “ Kendall smiled. “Alright go ahead and try your favorite charms. And I do not mean romantic ones!” He noticed a couple of the upper classmen who seemed to get amorous ideas when he mentioned trying their own favorite charms.“Just try and keep things in your own space rather than like mine.” With that Kendall turned his face to the ceiling again which now rained jellybeans in a two foot diameter circle around his head. Hopefully he wouldn‘t get an earwax or vomit flavored bean today. “Mmm Strawberries and cream!”. Skip to next post Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Reply #1 on July 07, 2009, 07:48:26 AM This was possibly the most ridiculous thing ever. Not only did she have to attend her normal charms classes, with Loopy Livermoore, the jolly and jovial charms professor who was leaving at the end of this year to pursue a career in selling charmed trees for the garden, but she was also having to come to this stupid class to meet the new professor. Why couldn't they just do what they normally did and leave it until the first lesson of the year? Chances are nobody would remember him in September anyway."So I guess you need to tell me who you are since I am not officially aware of a roster for this term.”There were a few groans from some of the students, particularly from her own year and the year below, who from September would be the top two years in the school. Ava slumped in her seat and looked down at a piece of parchment she'd been doodling on. Professor Fleetwood who was clearly not impressed by the response, then proceeded to perform a charm which caused the room to go dark, and what looked like the night's sky projected onto the ceiling. It then rained down in Bert Bott's every flavoured beans over his head. Favourite charms? Ava looked around as some of the students had already began theres. One boy had made his snot go really stringy, like cheese on a pizza, and was proceeding to pull it from his nose to arms length. Ava's nose crinkled up. "That's disgusting." She said as she turned away. A second year Gryffindor girl had produced a bunch of flowers from the end of her wand. Nicely done, Ava thought, but it was a little too simple. She needed to do something that looked as though she had actually learned something in her last six years of schooling.Hundreds of charms passed through her brain, but she decided to go with something they had been working on before Christmas - the water charm. She stood in a comfortable position, lifted her wand and said "Aguamenti!" From the end of her wand, the most vivid blue stream of water wooshed through the air above her head and swirled around, almost as though it was coming from a fountain. It span up and up in the air, but never came back down. When they had first been taught the charm, everyone's jet of water made its way back down, and everone was soaked. As they practised more, however, they were taught how to channel their concentration to ensure that the jet remained where they wanted it to be. Ava smiled at her handiwork. So far this was probably one of her favourite charms. It looked so graceful and beautiful. Skip to next post Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Reply #2 on July 07, 2009, 06:44:09 PM The room was buzzing with small chatter, mindless discussions, and complaining students. There was a new Charms professor and it seemed no one was excited to meet him. Spencer Bates, however, was quite interested in meeting the new teacher. Though Spencer didn’t really care, he just wanted to see if this professor was better than the last. He just wished they would let the Professor introduce himself next term, like everyone else.Spencer watched the professor absentmindedly walked in and ignored the class completely. Gee, he seemed he would be real nice. Not really. Spencer let out a sigh and held his head up with his arm. He would love to just take a nap right now and forget meeting the new professor, but that wouldn’t be very kind of him. Oh, who cares? Spencer began to lower his head when he noticed the Professor finally realized there was a class in front of him."Alright. I am Professor Fleetfoot, your new Charms professor. So I guess you need to tell me who you are since I am not officially aware of a roster for this term.”He sat up so he could get ready to say “Errr… Umm…. S- Spencer Bates?” but there was no need to. Apparently none of the other students wanted to be friendly. Spencer didn’t really care. But when Fleetfoot casted his little spell with the falling beans, Spencer got utterly jealous and wanted to learn what the professor just did so he could have candy pour on him when he was too lazy to get out of bed in the morning. He let out a small “hmph” and turned away from Fleetfoot in envy. But when Fleetfoot told the class to cast their favorite charms, Spencer nearly began to get flustered. “I want to cast magic beans on myself!” Spencer said out loud, quickly edging down in his seat afterwards in embarrassment. A couple of upperclassmen shook their head, others laughed at Spencer. Either way, he didn’t like the attention. He didn’t even bother pulling out his wand to cast a charm, he was done with the class already and wanted to nap. Skip to next post Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Not a good idea. In the back, he was free to critically examine his new Charms professor. Professor Kendall Fleetfoot. So far, he was not impressed. For one, why were they starting now? Exams began next week, he would much prefer to have free period to study. Not meet this teacher, who was definitely not impressing Jasper with his organizational skills or commanding skills. Or any skills, for that matter. Hopefully, he would be a decent charms master. Jasper had never particularly bonded with the old professor, but he'd gotten straight O's in his class and that was a positive sign.Ava did a water charm and then it was his turn. Reply #4 on July 10, 2009, 11:35:53 PM This was ridiculous. There was something criminal about waking up early to be in a classroom with roughly the entire student body to meet their new Charms Professor. She was beginning to feel like the entire school was cursed, as they had had countless new professors over the six years she had been here. Some of these had been better than others. That one was off her rocker, always transfiguring the objects in the classroom so nothing was ever what it appeared to be. Hopefully Professor... Fleetfeeet, was it? would be normal. Well, as normal as witches and wizards came.Nina had just gotten herself comfortable in a seat in the second row when the professor made the room dark. Lovely, the perfect atmosphere to zone off in. But then he gave them work (on the first day? Before the term next year began? Seriously?) to perform their favourite charm. Immediately, Nina felt this was a poor idea (as did the edge of her right sleeve, which was looking a bit burnt, due to some fire-causing spell gone astray).Nevertheless, umerous ideas came to her as what to cast (Charms was, by far, her favourite and best subject). She finally settled on a charm that she used often, due to its practicality (and besides, it was pretty cool). Wordlessly, Nina raised her wand and wrote her name in glowing letters. She used this during Quidditch practice, when she wanted the team to grasp what she was talking about and to clearly see it. She then poked the 'i' with her wand, flipping it upside down. Okay, it was not a necessity to know this charm, but it was pretty awesome. Skip to next post Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Reply #6 on July 19, 2009, 07:10:44 PM Kendall smiled as he watched the enthusiastic younger students attempting their charms, some very successfully and others not so successfully. It was nearly the end of term so of course many of the students had no desire to even be in this classroom considering that he wasn't even sure if he could award them points since technically he haden't officially begun his tenure. He also noticed the distain that some of the older students held for the exercise that he had placed. Mind you some of the charm work was particularly effective. He had to admire the power behind an effective agumenti charm as the column of water extended far up toward the rafters. As he walked past the senior Slythern he stopped to comment. "Quite excellent form and power behind the charm. Expand on that try duplito agumenti." Twin columns of water spurted from his wand about four inches before disapating into mist. "Effective for well I suppose not much really." Kendall ended the charm before moving on.A young Hufflepuff called out that he too wanted to cast the bertie botts bean charm. Kendall smiled and headed toward the young badger where he sat mid-class. "You saw the circles I drew in the air? you need to draw three circles to the right, then two pokes to the center, followed by two triangles side by side, then two circles left and a single poke to the center again." He demonstrated the movements for the young man, and then whispered to him "What it really does is like a teleport spell. Honeydukes keeps a supply of beans for me every month. You can use as many beans as you want." He pat the boy on the shoulder as he stood to move on.Another Slythern cast the Orchid charm, producing a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Kendall was brought back to Morrigan again when he saw the flowers. They would look good on the table in her lounge. Shaking his head clear he scoffed slightly. "I am sure that the ladies must all be very pleased to receive such lovely flowers." Kendalls words were flat with little emotion. He turned back toward the front of the classroom and watched as one of the red and gold gryffindors cast a fire writing charm of her name, then manipulated the floating fire in front of her. He had to admit that it was an impressive charm, and highly effective. There was an impressive array of charms around the room, but when he noticed some of the students starting to drift off to sleep, especially those who where creating throw pillows, blankets or other cushioning-like charms. Maybe it was time to end the lesson, or maybe it was time to spice things up a bit.Kendall stood and waved his wand across above his head disapating the dark night sky he had conjured. Then pointing his wand back toward himself he cast a new charm "Homium Duplexo" In an instant there was a second Professor Fleetfoot standing just to his left. His doppleganger was an exact mirror image of himself down to the wand held in his left hand as the real Kendall held his in his right.Looking at he new identical twin they both spoke at once "Anyone see the benefit of this charm?" Well, yes...but she loved this class very much. It was the first class in which she was able to use her wand six years ago, when she was a silly little 1st year, muggleborn no less, and this world was especially fascinating. Don't get her wrong, every day was a new adventure, a new experience and Dajda could live this life a hundred times over and still discover something new and enchanting. Still, she would always hold a special place in her heart for this class and a suddenly saddened thought of this being her last year to experience it fell heavy on her.Adjusting herself in her seat, she cleared her throat as the Professor introduced himself and gave a small assignment. Cast your favorite charm? A smile tugged on Dajda's lips, which turned into a blush when the Professor quickly added that romantic charms weren't exactly on this list. Not that she had planned to cast such a charm, but she was very shy about romantic anythings, really. "Dajda Dennis, Hufflepuff," she said, following instructions before she lift her wand. Hm. What charm to do?To her right she saw Ava use a cushioning charm, the pillow appearing in air and landing softly on the girls desk. Well, that seemed like a simple, effectual and comfortable thing to do, but Dajda wouldn't copycat the girl. What else could she do? Ahead of her, to her left, another girl used a charm to write her name out. The flame was very enchanting and for a moment, Dajda was lost in the flickers of 'Nina Morales' for a good portion of 10 seconds (easily distracted, you know?) before she blinked and remembered she had her own charm she need to do. She scrunched her nose a pit, pursing her lips into a small pout, before she grinned. Ah, how could she forget? Pointing her wand at the quill that lay on her desk she muttered the charm, not very loudly, "Avifors!" A small, purplish haze escaped her wand and hit the quill, and a moment later, a little yellow canary stood where the quill once was."Awe!" Dajda couldn't help but squeal to herself. It was so cute, looking up at her with his little black eyes and chirping his little canary chirp. She really did love this spell. It was so cute! The birds were usually very obedient too. Glancing up at the Professor, she watched as he lifted his wand to the air, pointed it to himself and cast a charm she couldn't help but feel she had heard or read somewhere before... "Homium Duplexo" Without a pause an exact replica of Professor Fleetfoot stood to his left and Dajda watch with enormous curiosity. That was actually pretty wicked..."Anyone see the benefit of this charm?" the professor continued, directing the class.Hm. There were many different reasons why that charm would benefit the user... Dajda raised her hand, "To confuse an enemy?" She asked, her voice dictating the fact that she was very unsure of her answer. Her little canary chirped in support. "Actually the best thing about having a twin is that you can double the work you can accomplish."The left Kendall (hereafter refered to as simply Left) pointed to his doppleganger. "While I am teaching classes, he can perform research in the library."This was followed by the right Kendall (henceforth known as Right) as he replied. "Oh self you do not know me as you might. While you are in the library I can wander the halls looking for some young student to prank!" His wide toothy smile, rather unnerving actually on his face left nothing to the imagination of the students as to the types of 'Pranks' the professor was speaking of.Together the two spoke again "The only difficulty with this spell is that..."Left pointed at Right as Right pointed at Left, "He is the duplicate so I get to remain."Right became very flustered very quickly. His doppleganger was an exact mirror image of himself down to the wand held in his left hand as the real Kendall held his in his right.Looking at he new identical twin they both spoke at once "Anyone see the benefit of this charm?" Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Reply #7 on November 01, 2009, 03:51:04 AM Charms. Was there anything more exciting? Well, yes...but she loved this class very much. Skip to next post
Re: [June 2] ...But really, I don't start until next term! Reply #8 on November 05, 2009, 05:20:00 PM Kendall smiled at the answer... well actually both Kendall's did.In synchronized speach the two began to speak together. "Anyone know a good disarming charm? Otherwise I may not be your professor next year!" He raised his wand ready to defend against Left, Skip to next post
