Physical Description:
Nate stands at a tall and sturdy 6’2 and is athletically built from taking years and years of mixed martial arts classes (mainly Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing) from a young age as well as yoga, lifting weights and outdoor activities. He is an avid fan of kayaking, bouldering, and tricking people into going on long hikes. Though, let’s face it—he’s been seriously slacking off on the yoga lately. He takes care of his body—generally eats a healthy diet and stays active. Now, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy a good drink or a bit of gillyweed every now and then.

Most would say that his artic blue eyes are his most noticeable feature, though his favorite is his amiable smile, partially because it is a nice contrast to his resting face. Unfortunately, his resting face is intense and stern, giving those who don’t know him the impression that he’s angry or irritated. His nose is splattered with freckles.

Nate’s dark brown, curly hair is shaved short—about the length of his carefully groomed facial hair. When long, it has been locked though his favorite has been when he rocked an afro (which was for the majority of his childhood and part of his mid-twenties).


Personality Description:
Nate has a strong sense of right and wrong, instilled in him from a young age.  He is a man who does not give up easily, and is not easily discouraged. He believes that it is his job to serve people, particularly the underdogs. Nate is an idealist, deeply concerned about the world around him and politics. He wants to change the world, and make it a better place for oppressed groups-particularly beings in a world that caters to wizards.

He is externally cool in a crisis, though inside he is likely to be screaming. He has a tendency to bite off more than he can chew, and feels weighed down and not quite himself when that happens.

Nate is an insomniac-- he tends to stay up late, tossing and turning, worrying and overthinking about his life, about a specific case, or about his daughter. He constantly worries about what is wrong in the world and what needs to be fixed, and how it can be fixed. It’s a stressful way to live, and he wouldn’t condone it in anyone he cared about.

Nathaniel is outdoorsy and active. To unwind, he enjoys going on hikes, bouldering, and dueling and martial arts. He takes his little daughter to beginning martial arts classes and practices right alongside her as a way to spend time together and a way to teach her how to defend herself, as she is too young to use magic with a wand.


History:
At exactly three in the morning on New Years day, Nathaniel Merlin Hawke was born to Peregrine Hawke and Molly Ferris-Hawke in a small cabin by Baker Lake in Washington State.  It was a quick birth, and his mother predicted that he would be an easy child-- and he was. His parents were Sasqulogists. Their cabin was located close to a family of Sasquatches. Nate’s first words were not in English, but they were in Sasqueech.

They lived a simple life, growing their own food and raising their own chickens. Like many wizarding children,he was homeschooled until he was old enough to go to a wizarding school. He attended Douglas Fir’s Academy of Sorcery until he graduated at the age of eighteen. He played on the school’s Quodpot Team (GO, ORCAS!). In the summers, he worked as a Sasqualogist’s assistant among his parents and their coworkers.

When he graduated from Douglas Fir’s, he met and fell in love with Jillian Radley (Archer Radley's cousin), a young witch from Piddlehinton. She was in the area, investigating and containing dragons that were affecting the local sasquatch population. It was infatuation at first sight. The two married on a whim, and the next thing he knew, he had moved to Piddlehinton, England to be with her.

The beginning of their marriage was rough. He missed his parents and the Sasquatches that he had bonded with. The infatuation faded, and slowly the two fell in love and managed to make it work. As Jilly was a werewolf, she had a difficult time carrying a child, and as a result there were many miscarriages. Eventually, they had a daughter-- Calliope. He got along well with the Radley family, and from them learned the art of brewing beer, which is now almost as fun a hobby as drinking it.

Jillian’s job was a dangerous one. In 2009, when Calliope was 3 years old, Jillian became an Opaleye’s snack-- a risk that many dragon handlers faced. Despite the safety practices put in place, very few handlers were left unscathed or unscarred.  Nate became a widower, and was faced with raising his daughter alone while working a full time job.

When he moved to the UK, he apprenticed under a few different ministry lawyers to get his magical law education.  As his wife was a werewolf, he developed an interest in werewolf issues. He worked as a lawyer in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures until January 2010, when he decided to open up his own practice. He is willing to take on any case in which he feels his client is being wronged, discriminated against, or oppressed in some way.

He has recently opened up his own law firm in Diagon Alley, just a bit too close to Knockturn Alley for the comfort of some of his clients. His daughter is nearly five years old, and is often in the care of his family members, though he frequently takes her into the office.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Nathaniel provides a whole range of legal services, matrimonial affairs and litigation included. However, he usually works with werewolves and other beings. He is a familiar face in the werewolf wing, and has often been quite a pain as well as an asset for that floor.

He has studied magical law through apprenticing under lawyers at the Ministry of Magic. Before opening his own firm he worked as a lawyer in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, though he took a special interest in werewolf issues.
