Settled on the north end of Diagon Alley, Death & Co was once a residential home. The buildings around it were residential too. But, the residents died, the buildings remained untouched and on their far corner in the alley, have stayed dormant for years. Fortunately, someone saw some potential and renovated the building that existed on a kitty corner from Gambol & Japes. The original attempt was to turn it into a restaurant, but the owner went under and it remained with its dilapidated exterior – no one would even really look at it.
But, Raul Amherst found its charm in the desperate search to find something to help his sister not become a soap opera on the wireless addict. After the
Guy Fawkes explosions, Margo suffered a deep crisis of identity and existence: contemplating the overwhelming possibility of a future she had not planned on ever having. As part of this slightly late quarter life crisis, Raul decided to buy the property with family money and gift it to his very lost sister. The surly exterior of the building provided a lot of opportunities for work and occupation. Now it is home to Death & Co. Part dive bar, part quidditch bar, all level 4 (and other friendly faces) hangout; the name is an homage to the death wishes of all of her ex-coworkers (and herself).
The interior is a reminiscent of Margo’s own personality. Sort of dark, but with a fun twist. The bar is stocked with every kind of liquor one could imagine. There is also an impressive array of beers and ales on tap. Though they currently aren’t serving food, there is a kitchen that may make itself useful in the future.
On one side of the bar are billiards tables. The billiards are, of course, magical. Eight balls explode if you hit them into a pocket before the end of the game. The cue ball heckles you if you scratch. Each ball has a “special” feature and they change from time to time. Some include magical jumping, splitting into more than one ball, and levitating. Each game played is totally different.
Notably, darts are not allowed at her bar. Margo was banned from playing in Australia and feels that the slight must carry over to England.
The outdoor area is open for drinking, dancing, and parties. Margo invites live music (though is usually playing the wireless or records). There are tables and chairs that can be removed for more space, if the event calls for it. Since it’s winter and she’s bought it, she’s relying on some friends and their spell work to make the space comfortable for winter: who doesn’t want to party outside no matter the time of the year? The summer will be significantly less complicated as far as spellwork goes.
