- The Corner - Just a minute's walk from the Ministry of Magic, an independent Muggle cafe frequented by Muggle students, and the odd Ministry worker trying to blend in.
- Hiraeth Gardens - A collection of modest, “boho/industrial chic” apartments in Clapham, London.
- House of Atreus - The luxurious, semi-public residential building owned by the illustrious Ira Almasy in Knightsbridge.
- Slandermouth - A coastal wizarding village located in Northwest England well known for its sandy beaches, frequent street markets held in and around the town square, and exuberant population of jarveys.

Jump Right In - Open Threads
Hey you, get that character moving with these super open threads!
- A Drop of Two Kinds
It started as a conversation, maybe a dare, up to a challenge and has now bubbled up into a spectacle as a crowd of students gather to watch. The half-mer Heliotrope LeJean has been talked into making a high dive off the footbridge into the lake.
- Color My Life With the Chaos of Trouble
Adelaide is trying to collect her puppy and new owl from the common spaces of Hiraeth Gardens. Her door is ajar and squeaky toys are flying.
- Just a Few Pages Short of a Normal Day
Just another day at Flourish & Blotts for Elliot... or is it? Friends, strangers, and everyone in between are welcome!
- Nothing's in the Flowers
Zia has just learned the news about her brother and is in shock. She needs someone to help her process the news, or at least a shoulder to cry on once she snaps out of it.
- Red Eyes at Night
Alvis' eyes are bleeding! What's going on?
- Scary Stories Under the Stars
The Astronomy Club is hosting a special Halloween event -- late-night scary stories around a (indoor) campfire. Open to all students, plus any professors who want to supervise and/or scare people.
- Still No Cure for the Common Birthday
It is Liam Darrow's birthday - he is the charming, slightly flirty chap who owns and runs The Yelling Compass in Diagon Alley. Drinking has taken place, more will, but for now - dancing and people to be flirted with!
Poisons and Painkillers
On December 3rd, 2010, contaminated ingredients and potions began to arrive in St Mungo's Hospital and London Apothecaries.
By late on Saturday December 4th, the hospital began to experience a high number of admissions for strange symptoms including hysterical laughing, bleeding eyes, blue glowing vomit and comatose states. The elderly and the young were most at risk, and there were many deaths within the first few hours.
Head Healer, Miranda Elliot was also struck with a comatose sleep, leaving the Heads of Floors and the Hospital Board to take collective charge of what to do.
The Daily Prophet begins the hysteria of panic by Sunday December 5th's edition, and there is hasty potion recall as St Mungo's establish the exact ingredients and work begins to trace the cause while others focus on more immediate antidotes. Hogwarts and the Ministry are on alert.
How to get involved:
- Read the Poisons and Painkillers wiki chapter for a run down of who/what/where
- Contribute to the Plot Discussion
- Have your character struck down - use the plot discussion to organise a healer or others to help
- Kill off an NPC or two, or even a character you'd like to retire but aren't sure how
- Write a letter to the Daily Prophet from one of your characters or an NPC about the situation (will be published) - PM to Kit
- Have a herbology/potions/investigative character who might help or have their own theory? Jump in the plot discussion and write some threads
Changes Behind the Scenes
A massive thanks to Michael who steps down from curator duties this month. Michael took on the extra duties back in 2013, and has been a huge help behind the scenes at Absit Omen. He continues on as a cbox moderator and we're excited to see him back on the board to write. He's got a plot thread, linked above, so please seize the opportunity to write with him.
Kelly, Kit and Sarah continue on as curators, and in the coming months we'll look again at how to simplify things at Absit Omen to keep everything running smoothly. We couldn't do this without the help of additional staff - Cody, Sly, Hazel, Will, Amara, Josh, Mel, Tor and Lyn, so thank you guys for all the time and effort you also put in to keep AO going.
However, it's the community at Absit Omen who really make the difference. Everyone here goes the extra mile to say hello and include writers in plots and threads. From the happy cbox burping to the occasional in-person meets, thank you all for being part of Absit Omen. Long may it continue!
