FIREWORKS AT THE LEAKY CAULDRON

"We have it on reliable authority that the situation is under control."

This statement, made by representative of the Minister of Magic Gladys Speakswell, was issued hours after three consecutive explosions took place at the Leaky Cauldron during the fireworks display of Bonfire Night in Diagon Alley.

According to eyewitnesses, the arrival of the Auror Corps and Healers was preceded by two blasts - and did nothing to prevent a third. It is understood that the final explosion had severely damaged the physical barrier between the alley and the muggle area beyond.

"It was a bloody unorganised mess," complained Dragon Handler Vincent Fournier when questioned by journalists in the direct aftermath of the tragedy. Fournier was amongst the many wizards and witches who were quick to volunteer their assistance to the cauldron's victims.

These attacks - or accidents - have resulted a total of two fatalities and over thirty civilians injured. Further comment is expected from the Minister and the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.
