Hattie.

I know you would want to know this because you like to know everything but yesterday, in the legislature, Fergus McPherson cursed me!  Can you believe it?  He hexed popping boils onto my face and elongated my front teeth.  We all know we had the misfortune of already inheriting the Flint teeth, but it was just cruel.   Honestly, he was only mad because I pointed out he was wrong.  Who resorts to juvenile hexes when they’re proven wrong? 

At most you sit down and pout.  Honestly!

You’ll be happy to know I removed his tongue and it had to be transported (with us) to St. Mungo’s in a bag.  I, at least, didn’t have to listen to him!  Though if looks could kill… I imagine we’d both be dead by now.  The point of this story is that I am mortified and would like to forget about it, if at all possible, considering I came to my office today and found a picture of a rabbit and several carrots.  I thought I worked with adults and I think I was wrong. 

How are classes?  What are you up to in school?  Please give me good, distracting (and non-scandalous, please) news.

McPherson is not McFierce. What a jerk! I hope he gets sacked and has to work in the children's section of the book store. Can Daddy sue him? No! Wait! Can you sue him? We don't need Daddy to solve this because we you're an adult, like you said!!! But wow, sorry about the teeth, Primmy. You know some boys like gaps and things, though.

YOU'RE AMAZING. Why did they give him his tongue back? Just tell him the horses love carrots and the photo is in the barn. He obviously belongs in one!

Classes are fine, we have a beautiful new professor. I think I might be in love and it will be worth detention lectures the hard work. But I always work hard in school! I want to be the Prime Minister one day. Or a fashion editor to make Neely angry.

If only he were to be sacked!  Everyone thought it was so hilarious what happened.  I, of course, am trying not to comment on it.  I just threw the carrots in the waste bin and hung up the rabbit on my wall.  It was a rather cute drawing, apparently a colleague’s child drew it.  You know I’m not particularly fond of other people’s small children, but the drawing was charming. Am I going soft?

Apparently, however, a person needs a tongue to do most things… so it was necessary to return it.  Next time, I will mute him instead.  Perhaps find an ancient curse that’s irreversible (I wish)!

Do remember you are in school to study, Hattie.  Ministers are not made by gawking young ladies! I’ll support you as far as you need me to, but not if you’re too busy staring at some professor.  Honestly, you’re too young for that nonsense anyway.  (If you could see me, I’m rolling my eyes.) Don’t you know boys give you dragon pox?

I am studying, Primrose! I can study more than one thing! I need to be skilled in ALL KINDS OF SUBJECTS, even the ones I don't end up in. Plus, all the carrots mean my eyesight is flawless. Do you want me to wear blindfolds to class? I might end up like McPherson!

Don't you know there's a cure for dragon pox?

By the way, if I buy you some trousers, will you wear them? I need an excuse to shop on Hogsmeade weekends! (Honestly, I don't, I'll shop anyway.)

I am so sorry I haven’t responded in so long!  Mum said she was writing you and work has been devilishly busy.  I’m sure you’ve heard about the explosions by now.  I can’t tell you much, but it has kept all of us dreadfully full of work.  Even Mum volunteered her services to the Ministry (I’m sure you’re surprised). 

I’ve just managed to dig out your letter from October and I’m horrified.  I hope your tongue has not been engaged in anything but spirited debate!  Honestly.  There are more important things in this world than wizards. 

I hope you didn’t buy me anything!  I’m sorry I’ve been too busy to send anything.  Even the horses are feeling neglected, I think.  Valentine and Wild Flower are beside themselves.  You know dad doesn’t brush them the way we do. 

When does Christmas holiday start?  We’re all (well except Marigold) excited about you coming home!  I daresay, I mss you.   Make a list of three things you’d want in your next care package.  Things I will actually buy.
