Class Thread Calendar & Other Hogwarts Resources

The NPC back-up plan for the most major of roles.

It can sometimes feel odd or disruptive if there are long periods of inactivity or high turnover in the Hogwarts Headmistress (or less often, the Minister of Magic). Considering some thoughtful ideas from Cody, we'll be enacting a new principle to help keep those posts feeling steady and consistent.  Please see the following change to the Character Guidelines.

Consistency Principle for Hogwarts Headmistress and Ministry of Magic
    • Should either of these posts become Inactive or unfilled, the Curators may NPC (or grant members permission to NPC) the character for official business to ensure continuity and keep plots and events moving.  (Example: Start of term feast.)
    • When possible, preference will be given to opportunities that keep the same character in the post to reduce turnover, i.e. adoption or passing a canon character.  However, this shouldn't stand in the way of getting an active writer in the post.

It's not meant to be a solid set of rules, but more of a philosophical guideline. We want to encourage and facilitate consistency, but not actually get in the way of writers writing.  Hope this is helpful!

Member Made of Win - REBOOT

As we're 6 years old, we wanted to give the opportunity to honour writers a second time. So even if they've won it before, we would LOVE some nominations.

If you know an AO member who is outstanding in their contribution, writing, plotting or another area of AO life, let us know! Enclose a few words to explain what makes them awesome and why they should be a Member Made of Win! You can nominate as many writers as you like.

    Calendars, Dates and Calculators

There's been a significant update in the calendar mods more info here as published in January. Add your character's birth date to their forum profile to see their IC age, and easily calculate ages for new characters with a handy updated calculator.

    Capitalising Thread Tags

Tags help organize threads here on Absit Omen! Using keywords, each thread can be sorted by plots, dates, and characters involved. When tagging, keep it simple and consistent. Strive to tag dates, plotlines, and characters in a thread.

Date your threads as so: September 2010, September 1 2010 for a Sept 1st thread. Tag characters, tag plots (but keep the tags clean, so don't tag the kitchen sink...!)

The tagging mod will automatically put new tags in lowercase since an update end of 2014 by the mod developer. The Curators go in and sort these out every few weeks, and are looking for a fix, so don't stress if your character's name is lowercase. It'll be corrected.

Here's our super easy guide on how to add dates and other tags to your threads

Want to feature a character? Want to feature a thread? Have a tip to suggest? PM the Curators.
