December 20

Raine,

It's been a fun holiday  for me so far. I've been spending a lot of time with Verity, Sophie, and Figaro.  I've been staying at their places or at my brother's flat. Or Emeline's flat too, but she's upset with me because her cats like me more than they like her. She's actually banned me from holding them. One of them is named Dietrich? Which is the name of the tattoo artist who did a moon on my forearm, one that keeps track of the moon cycle. Anyway, I am 100% sure she named a cat after him.

I've been missing you lately. It'll be weird not swimming with you in the lake.  I don't mean to sound clingy! How are things for you? Are you having fun?

The house in Koroni, Greece was a massive structure built on sloping pale streets. Ira Almasy stood at the main balcony, watching as sun sank into the sea and cast a glow of orange across the quaint coastal town. She wore a white linen dress. The laughter of children was prevalent - somewhere in the distance someone sang in colloquialisms and  it carried in the salty air.

A ceramic platter balanced on the balcony balustrade, presenting the day's bounty of owl mail. Several to herself and many letters for her fiery niece who was no doubt off seducing one of the locals this evening. Ira slid her nail across the envelope from Zel Trumble and slipped out its contents.

An amused smile - maternal on other womenn - crossed her lips. Such fortuitous timing.

Zel!

Thanks so much for writing, it’s so good to hear from you. I never thought I would be tired of sandy beaches and Greek food but I am, and I miss everyone at Hogwarts (don’t tell them I won’t live it down). How were the exams? I had a practical one from Aunt Ira and one of her Italian colleagues. You would like him, he has three cats.

Your timing is fortuitous. I shall be in London for a brief while this break, although under the unfortunate circumstance of attending the memorial service of a distant relative.

Should we do lunch on the 21st? Would love to catch up.

Faithfully Yours,

R Almasy
(and Maurice)

Dear Raine,

I would love to get lunch with you. We can go to Rover's Fancy, or something like that. I’m not picky, I can find just about anything to eat wherever we go. Is noon fine with you? Emeline is reading over my shoulder and insisting that I’ve got a girlfriend. She’s incorrigible. I told her that you were taken by a lovely bloke named Maurice. I think she believed me.

Much Love,

Zel

Zel,

We can meet at Rovers Fancy at noon. I know an excellent muggle place that serves American pumpkin pies on their dessert menu. They’re run by relatives of my mother. Did I ever tell you about the Crichtons? It can wait until then.

Regards from Maurice and Lumiere (new cat, photograph enclosed).

See you soon,

R Almasy

Raine,

Pumpkin pies are the best thing the Salem students could have ever introduced to us.  Why are they so delicious? Pumpkin anything is perfect.

Lumiere is adorable. He looks like a French cat too.  I am glad that Maurice has made a new friend in my absence.

I am looking forward to seeing you.

Love,

Zel
