[Sept 7] Names on Hearts, Not Tombstones [Closed]

on February 15, 2015, 10:15:14 PM

Ever since she’d talked to Ollie, Indica couldn’t quite shake the idea of a seventh year bucket list.  She’d been trying to figure out just what she was doing here beside finishing her classes.  Which, of course, had been quite a trial.  It was hard to get back into the swing of things when school was starting and Indica was glad that classes were done for the day and she’d had a good dinner to top it all off.

She got a letter from her parents, and a small package with some fresh baked cookies from her dad.  They were, of course, delicious, and she’d promptly shared with her friends around the Gryffindor table before wandering around the Great Hall, handing the rest out.  She’d run into Roh and after feeding her a cookie (garnering the attention of most of the people in their direct vicinity), she invited the girl to meet her in the library in an hour.

Others seemed interested, but they got no such invite from Indica.  She wanted to go to the dorm for a little bit and relax… she’d laid on her bed with the wireless on for a little bit, dozed off, woke up to her alarm and then grabbed her books and parchment.  She’d shoved them into her bag and yawned loudly before exiting the dorm room.

Other students were milling around and Indica smiled and waved, saying hello as she went, even though her hair was still mussed from taking a nap and her eyes were still sleep-heavy.  Putting her hand up to her mouth, she covered another yawn and shook her head as she breezed by a hufflepuff she was fond of and embraced her briefly in the hallway.  “Catch up later?” she asked with a grin and when it was confirmed, she continued on.

After all, as much as she’d like to have stayed and found out what the girl had done over the summer (her parents weren’t exactly fans of Indica’s house… or the hickeys she’d come home with from visiting that one time… but that was beyond the point!)  she had something important to do with Roh.  Busting into the library, it was fairly empty – too early in the year for people to really be using it (and truth be told it wasn’t as though Indica was there for studying).  She didn’t want to be near the front though – librarian’s prying eyes.

So, she hustled her way through the stacks and found a spot in an isolated part of the library, ducked into a very high stack of books where she and Roh could suss out the greatest accomplishment that would be known to any seventh year from now until the end of eternity.

Life had settled into a nice easy pattern already for Waverly, though it did feel strange to walk the halls without Annie or running into people from all over the globe. She missed the other girl but found that her days were full nonetheless. There was a new host of professors to get used to and of course the eclectic group of friends she kept proved incredibly entertaining already. The most entertaining of course (as usual) proved to be Indica Kemp. The cookie and show in the Great Hall had been excellent fun, and she was genuinely curious to see what her fellow 7th year had in mind for the evening (Indica was not exactly known for the time she spent in the library after all).

She was actually really glad to be getting some extra face time with the Gryffindor. They hadn't seen as much of one another over the summer, what with Roh being on the school trip and then keeping busy with Althea when she got home. The library was, maybe. a little more supervised than she might have liked, but as long as they weren't setting things on fire she figured no one would make too much of a fuss. Of course you never knew with Indi what the evening might turn into, but that was half the fun! Which probably attributed (at least in part) to why Waverly practically skipped as she made her way down the long corridor to the Library. Indi was always a good time.

Roh was actually a little surprised when she arrived to find the other girl already there. This must have been important, along with libraries not really being her thing, time was not a concept Waverly thought Indica paid much attention to in the grand scheme of things. Long limbs scurried toward Kemp, quietly (mostly) sliding into the seat next to Indica, Roh dropped a friendly kiss on her cheek in greeting, brown eyes expectantly searching her friend's face, "Okay, you've got my full attention for the rest of the evening. I am dying to know what has you wanting to be in the library this early in the term, because clearly we already made out in the stacks without getting caught 5th year".

The top of the parchment in front of her was titled with large text, “Seventh Year Bucket List.”  There was only one item on the list so far, what she’d mentioned to Ollie, and she continued to tap the quill on the table.  She needed more ideas.  Sure, she had some, but she didn’t want to put something dumb on the list.  It was too important to mess up.

There were so few things in the world that could claim that in Indica’s head.  She was never really concerned about failure.  It was natural to not do well on things and you learned more from being a failure.  Didn’t mean that she wanted to necessarily have that happen here.  So, when Roh approached (she could tell by the sound of her heels – and of course, looking), Indica grinned and leaned her cheek to the girl, allowing her to give her a kiss before turning her head to return the gesture.

Mention of fifth year sparked something in her mind and Indica sighed with aggravation.  “Ah! See,” Indica smacked her hands on the wooden table, not really concerned about the noise for the time being.  “That’s the sort of thing that needs to be on this,” she lifted the paper, practically shoving it into Roh’s pretty face.  “I had this idea,” she informed her, “and we should do it.  Put as many things as we can think of on it and see how many we can do by the end of the year.  Really make a splash, you know?”

She was enthusiastic, and the grin didn’t die from her face.  “You know, like I thought of skinny dipping in the lake - stuff we've never done before," she explained, but continued, "we could also like… revisit stuff we’ve done before,” leaning forward, she pressed a quick kiss to Roh’s lips, “like not getting caught hooking up in the stacks,” she giggled and settled back in her seat.  “You in?”

Waverly just sat there with a fat Cheshire Cat grin while Indi flailed and pounded, then shoved a piece of parchment. She should have known Indi would come through with something to spice up their final year. It reminded her, vaguely of something Annie had mentioned about Salem Seniors, but she'd sit on that suggestion for awhile. It might be harder to organize with the size of their classes and not getting caught. It had become exceedingly obvious Hogwarts (for all it's foibles) could not quite hold a candle to Salem and it's pegged legged Headmaster.

Stealing another quick kiss back from the Gryffindor, she also snatched the parchment and quill up, "Careful with that, Love, you don't want to start a kissing war we both know you'll lose". Her grin had shifted to rueful as she wiggled her eyebrows at Indica, though her focus was soon solely on the page before her, "this is actually really genius Ind, I mean bloody brilliant, but obviously with my  help we can make it even better," she began writing, neat cursive joining under Indica's words, Streak a Quidditch match. It would be a hard one for Roh to manage since she planned to play Seeker again this year but, the challenge was part of the fun.

"You know," she pressed the quill plume to her lips for a moment before leaning in and lowering her voice, "a points system would make it that much better. I mean we already have the House Cup and the Quidditch cup, but those are boring and rely far too much on other people being as skilled and amazing as we are; clearly that's not likely," she giggled a little, brown eyes excited as she reached over to tickle Indi's nose with the plume, 'But a Secret-Seventh-Year-Cup-of-Bossitude'? That is something not even the holy duo of Fred and George could come up with. That genius is purely Rodica"

Indi laughed warmly as Roh indicated that a war could start.  She was not sure that was entirely true.  Indica fancied herself something of an expert.  She liked to feel good, and in return, make others feel good.  It was a challenge and a game, mixed in with the very real affection she felt for a good majority of people.  Sure, it was a little different with everyone, but at its heart, Indica thrived on her sense of touch and that was how she showed people she was thinking of them.  Didn’t mean she wasn’t going to joke around though, and she returned the rueful smile.  “I’m a lover,” Indica assured her, “not a fighter.”

Not the point of the conversation though and Roh’s sharp eyes turned on the paper, even going so far as to snatch the quill from Indi’s nimble fingers.  Pride filled her at the compliment and Indica leaned over to see what she was going to do.  “I knew I asked the right person,” Indica would have cheered were she not in the library.  It was probably a bad idea to get caught doing anything this early in the year and to have the list discovered before it even got going…

Indica had a long-term plan.  This was going to be epic.  “I love that!” she announced, pointing at the swirly cursive Roh added to the parchment.  Where Indica had chicken scratch, Roh’s handwriting was pretty.  She supposed their handwriting matched their personalities to some degree.  “Though,” she lowered her voice and smirked, “how do you feel about the whole school seeing you riding a broom… naked.”  The last part was meant to come out conspiratorially, like they’d never said the word before… or had seen it all.

Whatever, it was funnier that way, and Indica loved to be funny and carefree.  She wasn’t sure how she felt about it – kind of weird, for Roh.  She wouldn’t care if it was her (she would join in), but… it was a weird thought.  She shook her head head and refocused on Roh’s other suggestion.  Points.  She looked at her dumbly for a moment before the possibilities actually hit her.  A squeal of excitement came out and Indi squeezed her fists tight before holding her hands over her mouth to stop from laughing too loud.  “Points have to mean something though,” she added, pouting her lips.

“Like the harder a thing… the more points its worth,” she got excited again, bouncing in her seat with a heightened whisper.  “I think – like, oh!  Anything involving Storm is going to be at least 25 points.  But like… easy stuff would be worth way less.  Rewards for the daring,” she plucked the quill from Roh’s hand and jotted some ideas on the side down, just to keep for later.  “There should be a winner, right?  And a prize?”

"It's true, you are a pretty excellent lovah," she drawled the word out in the most obnoxious way possible. She was, actually, not a fan of the word, maybe because she had heard her mothers' friends use it too often to describe their current romantic situations. It just felt dirty, but not in a fun way. It was more slimy than fun (at least to Waverly's ears). Of course, the important thing, she reminded herself silently, was going to be keeping Indica on task. It would be easy for both of them to get distracted, but now she was well and truly interested in the idea of this bucket list, she might put it on her actual life bucket list to complete this challenge.

"Oh my how scandalous! Naked you say, I'd never do such a thing," she fluttered her eyelashes a little and tossed her hair over her shoulder haughtily. Roh had no issues with her body, she'd been brought up in a house that was, in many ways. as liberal as Indica's. Being raised by two forward thinking Witches meant having some things instilled very early - like that her body wasn't something to be ashamed of, no matter what. It had been really helpful when she shot up a head taller than most of their fellow students the second half of first year. Eventually everyone caught up (well sort of), but it'd have been a pretty rough go of it if she'd given two flying figs about how girls were supposed to be dainty and petite. Everything about Roh had always been big - from her butt to her hair, besides it wasn't like anyone had ever remarked much about it (in other than hushed/awed tones).

"Yes! Now you're getting the idea," she almost squealed with delight as Indi seemed to agree with her points idea, "Obviously anything involving Storm is high on the scale, but something like stealing a candle from the Great Hall would be worth less. We'll probably have to work out a buddy system, just to keep people honest". Her eyes were back on the list as she blindly felt around in her bag for a quill of her own, bottom lip caught between her teeth, "hmm, maybe the prize is the Infamy, unless you have a better idea? I mean think about it, if we pull this off without getting caught? We would be legends. This could be come a thing, like Senior ditch day at Salem! Annie told me about it last year," she sounded a little distracted as she drummed her nails against the table, "There should be bonus points if you manage to complete a task without getting detention too I think, at least on the big ones".

Indi got a surge of pride from Roh’s compliment, despite the fact that she grimaced at the word.  It sort of suggested that things were serious and that there was love involved.  Indi loved her friends, she loved having fun, but the idea of  like… ugh.  She couldn’t even imagine!  Life was meant to be breezed through, it was meant to be fun and easy.  Indi embodied what that meant.  So, she took a fun, flirty stance on it and winked obnoxiously at Roh, “You would know!”

Shimmying her shoulders a little, Indi bit her tongue between her teeth and wrinkled her nose with a string of giggles that would have gotten them kicked out of the library if it was a busier time of the year.  “That’s not what I’ve heard,” she teased and leaned forward, reaching over to give her leg a playful squeeze.  It wasn’t like both of them weren’t totally comfortable with themselves. “I’d have some choice hexes for anyone felt entitled to look though,” she added with a beaming smile – if she was being cheeky or serious, one might never know.

It wasn’t as tough she didn’t have a little bit of a jealous streak.  It manifested itself a little differently than it might have for other people, but she was trying to keep it light.  They had other things to deal with, anyway.  “I think everyone should have to prove they’ve done it,” Indica added while biting her lip.  “Some of it would be really easy, but yea… buddies for some of the bigger items,” she nodded.  “Though… like… snogging obviously might need something… extra.”  She wondered if they could carry cameras around.  Would that be weird?

Resting her elbow on the bench, Indica held her head up and tapped her quill to her lips.  Roh had all sorts of fantastic ideas and she tilted her head toward her, regarding her with a sort of reverent expression.  “You’re absol-bloody-lutely brilliant, you know that?” she complimented quite sincerely.  “I say prize is a party – end of the year, complete blow out.”  For Indica that probably meant something totally different from everyone else – she didn’t drink, she had an… eclectic ear for music (though last year she had learned all about the joys of American rap music and that was… an education in and of itself).  Indica had even excelled at the American art of twerking.  It was definitely a party trick, sober or not.

Seventh Year Skip Day definitely found its way onto the list, maybe as a way to get back at Annie who was blessedly gone.  Jealous streak.  It just seemed wrong that she’d gotten so… close to Roh and whatever.  It didn’t matter!  Pushing the thought away, Indica glanced back at the paper with pursed lips, “What about like, repeats?” Indi asked, “should you be able to get points for things twice?  Or like one set of points per activity… so if you do two at a time… you can only pick one of them?”  This was terribly complicated, as Indica was quickly reasoning out.

But, they had to be epic.  They had to change the face of seventh year at Hogwarts.  Legend sounded absolutely spectacular.  Annie certainly wasn’t a legend.

"True, I would know, but I'm certainly not the only one," she wiggled her eyebrows, expression teasing. She wasn't looking to tie Indica down. The way Waverly saw it, Indi wasn't a monogamous relationship type of person. When things got serious Indi got...well, flaky wasn't exactly the right word, but it got weird. Besides that (and the other girl's jealous streak) trying to make her be a relationship type would fundamentally change who she was, which didn't make sense because she adored how Indica was. So, what might have sounded like a jab coming from someone else was just meant as good nature'd fun coming from Roh.

Tucking a springy curl behind her ear she nodded in agreement with the Gryffindor, "Some things will be easy to prove. I mean if it's a bunch of us doing it together..." her voice trailed off, eyes narrowing in concentration, "Oh! What if after every task, to be give points you had to extract the memory, I mean we could literally have viewing parties"! She sounded weirdly excited at the prospect. They'd learned the spell from Mr. Flamboyant the previous year, it would be interesting to practice with it some more. Of course she supposed people could still lie if they were really set on winning, but what would the fun in that even be?

"Hmm, I think some of them we could get away with doing twice, but like... obviously Bonfire Night is a one time deal, but there's really no risk in people trying to find interesting places to hook up around the castle. We do that all the anyway, the goal is to not get caught. We should probably start small. I mean just a couple people each? If we get the entire non-Prefect population of 7th year involved it'll be obvious we're up to something and that would not be good," she was jotting down a few other ideas, chewing on her bottom lip before glancing up, "Anyway, the point I was trying to make was, or at least big things should maybe be one offs, just so we don't run the risk of getting expelled".

Laughing, Indica wrinkled her nose at Roh.  “It might not seem like it, but it’s an exclusive club,” she teased.  Indica just… liked who she liked and took advantage of opportunities that arose.  They just so happened to arise quite often.  “By the by,” Indica looked up, “do I have stories from the summer for you!” it wasn’t a question at all, really.  Roh had gone on the trip and that left Indica to her own devices at home.  “Not important right now though,” she added, looking down at the list.

This was clearly far more important than stories of her conquests over break.  Granted, it did relate a little to Roh’s next idea – viewing parties.  She laughed and shook her head, “I don’t know if we have to go that far,” she smirked, “though I wouldn’t be opposed for some of the more fun ones,” she winked.   She didn’t know if they needed to do it, considering if someone really wanted to lie about how many points they’d gotten that was just about the most ridiculous thing ever.  It was a competition and there was definitely some level of glory that was going to go with it… but no.

And the number of times things could be done… that made sense – especially with what Roh said about group things.  “Agreed!” she chewed on the top of her quill and nodded.  “Right, and we don’t want anyone who is going to get us caught involved – though, we should definitely have a bonus for breaking rules with a prefect.  That’d just show ‘em, wouldn’t it?” she jotted it down on the paper and grinned.  As the list and the ideas got more concrete, Indica got more excited.  It was really coming together and then even if it wasn’t a huge thing… Indi wouldn’t mind just sharing it with a couple of friends.

Being expelled did seem like a terribly bad idea.  And though most of this was pretty simple, she could see some of it leading down a path like that if it went too far.  “You’re so smart and beautiful – it’s a wonder you need to graduate at all,” Indi teased and wrote at the bottom of the list no one get expelled! just as a reminder for later.

Roh just grinned as Indica made the promise of stories to come later. It never really bothered her, the other people, Indi having so much affection to give was one of her most attractive qualities. Well, that and her face (her bum was pretty great too, actually). She didn't have the same (at times hypocritical) possessive streak, but then even that was endearing. Sort of. To a point. It had yet to get bad enough to become irksome.

As they got back to the task at hand, Waverly rested her chin in her hand and grinned "It's a blessing and a curse truly, being so flawless is exhausting," she heaved a great sigh and tossed her hair over one shoulder, clearly exaggerating. Roh did pride herself on being smart, but it was really only within the last year that she'd taken her perceived beauty into consideration. It had been Annie really, the day the Salemite had told her she had draw-able features. It wasn't the first time someone had told her she was attractive, but it was the first time she took it into consideration in connection to how people treated her.

It probably had something to do with spending the first five years at Hogwarts trying to be nothing like the Monarchy, actively rejecting the idea that beauty should be the most important or interesting thing about a Witch. If she were one to get analytical about it (which she really wasn't, but if she were) Roh might have come to the conclusion she had been rejecting them before they could reject her. After all, she wasn't a Pureblood princess, they couldn't even be totally sure of her bloodline really. It had just been easier to forge her own path to happiness that had nothing to do with frilly parties or flouncing around with Kitty Li and the like.

Chewing her bottom lip, she tapped the paper with the tip of her quill, "You know, I know Deus did the whole confessing his undying love to a Professor thing with Storm last Christmas," she rolled her eyes a little, smirk tugging on the corner of her mouth, "But what about anonymous love letters, secret admirers? Extra points if you can get them to actually buy into the idea it's another adult"?

Remembering Deus’ antics around Professor Storm made Indica laugh in memory.  It was ridiculous, and even though she didn’t take that class, she’d heard about it from many different people – each version just a little more ridiculous than the last.  It’d provided endless amounts of mirth at the time it happened, so, at the suggestion that something similar happen, Indica nodded enthusiasitically as she wiped the corners of her eyes from the tears of laughter.  She could live through her memories any day.

“Yes, yes!” she practically cheered, “That sounds glorious.”

She could only imagine the havoc they could wreak on professor’s lives if they could pull that sort of thing off.  It would be splendid.  She wrote it down without a second thought.

Two minds really were better than one where this was concerned.  As her quill lingered over the paper, Indica was suddenly (and gloriously) blessed with something no short of a vision.  Perhaps she wasn’t a seer but she was damn near prophetic in this year’s rise to glory.  “I mean… what about like even delivering the letters as the professor.”

If her friend still didn’t catch on, Inidca lowered her voice and looked as sinister as she ever could:  “polyjuice.”
