[Sep 5] Studying Stones On a Sunday [Closed]

on February 12, 2015, 03:38:29 PM

There were barely any students in the library during late summer Sundays. To be fair - there were barely any students in the library any given Sunday. Most were hanging out in the common rooms, or catching up with their friends out on the grounds. This close to the start of term most of the students at Hogwarts were more interested in hearing about their friends summer vacations then researching magical qualities of sneezewort.

But Maximus had a reason for being close to the only living being in the library this Sunday morning. His first Ancient Runes class with the new professor had taken place a couple of days ago, and ever since he couldn’t stop thinking of the crystalline wands, now competing with the books and parchments about the clamped and messy space on the table. He had read about them before the class, but hadn’t really given them much thought (he had merely brushed it off as an eccentric oddity druids back in the days would use.) Now he had four that were supposed to represent him.

Since the class he had been able to identify them - the green peridot; the icy-blue kyanite; the golden-white cerussite; and the grey sphene, with its streaks of brown and grey. Knowing their properties was another issue. It seemed different sources gave different answers, and each wand had a long list of possible properties (the ones found in multiple sources were underlined.) And after finding the properties he had to figure out what each of them said about himself. That was the hardest task. Especially since he wasn’t sure he really knew himself well enough to know if it was right or wrong.

Some people would describe Maximus as a messy person (the Hogwarts Librarian not the least) and few would even begin to understand how he could get any work done with papers, quills and books cluttering his workspace. This wasn’t really the truth, though. Maximus’ chaos was always organized. Even though it looked like someone had overturned a bookcase anytime he decided to research, the placement of every parchment around him was deliberate. Of course - he could always run out of space.

With a heavy thud that echoed through the library, a thick book about druidic daily life fell of the table and on to the floor. This made Max jump and snap out of the complete engulfment of his task. Confused, he peered down at the book, before he bent over to pick it up. Better not let it laying around. It might loose him house points.
