Full Character Name: Charmaine Olivia Donovan
Character Birthday & Age: February 29, 1924. 87 years old.
City & Country of Birth: Born in Godric’s Hollow, but has spent the majority of her life in Cartagena, Columbia.
Blood Purity: Halfblood
Alma Mater: Ledesma School of Magic, on the Caribbean coast of Columbia
Job/Position: Retired old crone (Former professor)

Wand: Dragon heartstring, Silver Lime wood. Rigid and knobby. The wand is kept in her ornate, beautifully carved walking cane.

Physical Description:
In her youth, Charlie was quite a beauty. She insists that she has only grown better with age, like fine liquor. She looks rather young for her age, which is not uncommon in witches—muggles do age terribly, don’t they? Charlie has a petite nose, thick eyebrows, and high cheekbones that are so characteristic of the Donovan family. Her full lips are usually curled up in an all knowing smile, and her dark eyes are often full of elderly judgment.

Charlie’s hair, when long, is silver and curly. When short, it is straight and styled to perfection.
She walks with a cane, and has ever since she was twenty two years old, after a duel that went sour and left her with permanent spell damage in her back. Better the back than her mind, she always says—refusing to be coddled or pitied because of it. At 5’3 in height, being hunched over with a cane often makes her look smaller than she actually is. What she lacks in height, she makes up for in personality. As she was born on leap year, when asked for her age she claims she is 21.

Personality Description:
No nonsense, curt, and headstrong, Charlie has mastered the art of making up her mind before asking for input from others. Such input is usually responded with, “that’s an interesting thought, dear” before she goes and does whatever it was she planned on doing in the first place. Very few people are worthy of actually having their opinions considered, and those people are usually her favored Donovan granddaughters. Differences in opinions are usually met with a condescending, “oh honey, what sweet dreams you have” or a, “When you grow wiser, you’ll look at this in an entirely different light.”

She is prideful, and was quite offended when her firstborn granddaughter was not named after her. As a result, Rick was. It still isn’t good enough, but she says that she’ll settle for him. After all, it’s not his fault that her son Rhys made such an egregious, offensive mistake. After all, it’s in his nature. The dangly bits between his legs lead to errors in judgment—of course Shona should’ve been a Charmaine!

History:
Charlie was born in Godric’s Hollow and raised in Cartagena, Columbia—into a well off, wealthy family. Her father was an immigrant from Britain, her mother a resident of Cartagena. They met, fell in love, got married and had one child. After her birth there was much debate over where they would settle down—her father left his family home as her mother wanted to raise her child close to her family. Charlie will insist that she was by far the most impressive child out of all her cousins, much to their irritation. When she was old enough, she attended Ledesma School of Magic, her mother’s alma mater. Charmaine quickly picked up on Dream Magic and Mind Magics. She was a competitive student, domineering and sometimes difficult to work with. However, her performance in class was excellent—other than having strong opinions paired with a large mouth, she was a model student.

After graduation, she did her fair of travelling, tutoring and teaching dream theories/dream magic. Occlumency and legilimency played a very minor role in some educational scenarios. It was during her travels that she met her husband, a magizoologist and conservationist named Patricio. When they married, she stayed firm with keeping her last name, and after much debate, he took hers. Her travels were not all positive—she did spend some time in the hospital after getting in a duel with a wizard who had disrespected her authority. His spell caused some permanent damage to her back, though that didn’t get in the way of the wedding.

A few years after her marriage and injury, she accepted a job offer at her alma mater to work as a professor of dream magic. During that time, she and Patricio had five children, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She taught for fifty seven years. After a long illness, Patricio died and Charlie was left with an empty home, with all her children and most of her grandchildren grown. She decided to retire and move to Godric's Hollow, where her father had left her his family home so long ago. After a series of renters had come and gone, the house was left needing to be fixed up just a bit. After all, she was going to be staying there now, much to Wheezy the house elf’s delight.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
She is recently retired and very much enjoying it.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
She scoffs, "Are you implying that I don't deserve retirement after my years of hard work?"

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Charlie is a fierce, majestic woman who has only become more glorious with age. Some ladies are a mere wine, she is firewhiskey.

Rising Sign   is in   15 Degrees   Scorpio
You tend to be quiet, reserved, secretive and, at times, quite difficult to understand. Others notice your deep emotions and feelings and wonder how to draw you out. Stubborn and tough, you fight for any position you believe in. You are very resourceful and formidable when you become angered or upset about something. You enjoy living life at the cutting edge -- for you life must be experienced intensely and totally. Quite courageous, you are willing to take calculated risks. Easily hurt by others, you often strike back with bitter sarcasm. Sensitive and curious, you are concerned with the deeper mysteries of human psychology. Once you have become interested in any subject, you pursue it with total fanaticism.

Sun is in   09 Degrees   Pisces.
Extremely sensitive and emotional, you absorb the emotions of others (whether positive or negative) like a sponge. Emotionally vulnerable, you are easily upset and tend to cry readily. You are at your best when you can structure your environment in such a way that you are surrounded by positive, upbeat people. You are very helpful and understanding of the needs of others. Indeed, at times this can be a disadvantage, because you can be a sucker for anyone who needs help. Shy, dreamy, romantic in nature, you delight in retreating into your private fantasy world. Just be careful that you do not get lost in it! Trust your intuitions -- you may be quite psychic.

Moon is in   28 Degrees   Sagittarius.
An idealist, you prefer the grand, the beautiful, the good and the noble. You get very disappointed when your high expectations in life are not met. Very curious by nature, you enjoy traveling and learning about other peoples and cultures. Try to avoid your tendency to ignore the small but important details of living. You are independent and free, and you want others to be that way, too. Optimistic, buoyant and cheerful, others like to have you around. You have an incessant desire to learn as much as possible about metaphysics, religion, philosophy and any other broad, deep subject. Your life tends to be punctuated by bursts of energy and frenetic activity.

Mercury is in   21 Degrees   Aquarius.
You tend to be very opinionated -- you have strongly felt notions about things and are quite vocal about expressing and defending them. Yet you are also an original thinker -- you enjoy shocking others with your offbeat, original thoughts. You appreciate and need mental and intellectual stimulation. Your judgment is usually fair and impartial -- you can be a good critic because you can remain objective and unemotional about most things.

Venus is in   18 Degrees   Aries.
You are a very affectionate person but you hate to be tied down. You are more than willing to be the aggressor in initiating new relationships. Indeed, once you have set your sights on someone, you tend to pursue him or her ardently and passionately. But you do demand your own way in a relationship. Try to give in to your partner's needs and desires once in a while.

Mars is in   25 Degrees   Sagittarius.
Your every action is motivated by high moral standards and ideals. You will work very hard to improve the lot of the world at large, but you demand action about it -- you do not like to just sit around and talk about doing it in an abstract manner. You like to be where the real action is. You resist mightily any attempts to limit your freedom and you will assist anyone who feels put down and restricted. You are extremely restless by nature -- physical exercise is very important to you if you would maintain your health.

Jupiter is in   17 Degrees   Sagittarius.
You have a very strong sense of ethics and morality. You are widely read and may also be widely traveled because you are sincerely interested in expanding your knowledge of the world about you. At times, you have an annoying tendency to be self-righteous and preachy about your belief system. You are usually quite idealistic and you demand the right to be able to explore the entire world of experiences yourself. Remember to grant others the similar right -- be tolerant, not dogmatic.

Saturn is in   02 Degrees   Scorpio.
You tend to release emotional energies only very reluctantly. This is partly due to your fear of what horrible calamity might occur should they be released -- your emotions are terribly complicated and intense. Try not to repress these energies entirely, however, or you will succumb to negative and destructive forms of compulsive behavior. Give yourself the freedom to look awkward or silly once in a while. The relief you feel will be quite therapeutic and the embarrassment (whether it is real or imagined) will pass quickly.

Uranus is in   17 Degrees   Pisces.
You, and most of your peers, are extremely idealistic and want to change society by completely reorienting its highest religious goals and aspirations. Just be careful to make sure that your new goal structures are properly grounded in reality so that they have a chance of being accepted by the majority.

Neptune is in   18 Degrees   Leo.
You, and your entire generation, idealize aggressive behavior and the need to be individualistic. But, because you are also attracted to selflessness (the denial of the ego) as a worthy life goal, you tend to have confused expectations about why self-expression is so valuable.

Pluto is in   10 Degrees   Cancer.
For your entire generation, this is a period of profound global changes, especially in the nature and shape of family structures. In one such period, in the Twentieth Century, major calamities such as depression and world war accelerated the replacement of the old village-oriented extended family by modern cosmopolitan living.

N. Node is in   02 Degrees   Virgo.
You're usually quite at ease in leaving leadership roles in the hands of others. You would rather tend to the thousand and one details that need to be accomplished to keep any group going. Although you're very fussy and high-minded when it comes to choosing your associates, once your loyalty is given you can be trusted with many of the practical aspects of any project that is being undertaken. Usually quite unselfish, you will toil long hours in the service of any worthy cause that demands your attention. But be careful that your perfectionist tendencies don't get in the way of making real progress. (In other words, don't waste your time dusting clean shelves!)
