Wiedman Skivving on Second Chance
by Niobe Thursby

This week in their match against the Kenmare Kestrals, The Falmouth Falcons were down their M.V.P. - most violent player.  The other Falcons couldn't make up for the loss of their beater in the next two hours until the snitch was caught by Kestral seeker Justinia Leavenworthy, and the Falcons fell 70 - 250.

Dominik Wiedman was ejected from the pitch by referee Samir Banda for what witnesses claim to be the most violent foul in Falmouth's illustrious history.  Wiedman, who's been with the Falcons since 1999, has since racked up a criminal 817 career fouls, with nearly 500 of them being severe enough for him to be removed from the pitch.

Kenmare Keeper Xaxius Jacobi-Mills was the victim of the foul - a ramming check into the center goal ring after which Wiedman hit a bludger down onto the land-ridden Jacobi-Mills.  Referee Banda immediately stopped play while mediwitches and mediwizards assisted the fallen keeper.

This reporter can't quite wonder if the wizarding people are really safer with Wiedman on a broom?  His very controversial and highly scrutinized trial of 1999 allowed Wiedman a short leash and a beater bat in lieu of a sentence in Azkaban prison.  Wiedman's lawyers attested then that Wiedman's talent was of too great a value to the wizarding world to waste.  The Wizengamot (a historically merciful one in those days) allowed it.

Falcon Coach Augustus Snark is notorious in the league for encouraging this kind of play from not only Wiedman but from the rest of the squad as well.  Sources close to the Falcon locker room tell us that even Coach Snark was not at all remorseful!

"Banda was overreacting - the foul wasn't that bad, and if he thinks something like that was worthy of being sent off, then perhaps the little princess is reff-ing the wrong sport!".

How much longer can Snark justify keeping a player in the pitch who so frequently causes the Falcons to play a beater down?  There's only so long you can keep chimera in your garden, Mr. Snark.
