Physical Description:
Some may call Lorelei petite - this might be true. Not reaching higher than 5’2” she is short and slim, and some might view her as fragile at first. This is wrong, however. Her dark, narrow eyes burn with an intensity of a bird of prey, and her jet black hair flows around her face like a mane. Small freckles are splatter over her high cheekbones and her well rounded lips are magnificent to watch when she smiles.
She usually wears heels (something she started doing at Laevenstrome’s as a way to not always be looked down on) and wears comfortable, yet proper clothing. Pant suits, plain robes with blazers or delicate shawls draped around her shoulders. She doesn’t believe in dressing extravagant and at formal happenings she usually opts for a clean Chinese robe, rather than billowing dress robes.
Personality Description:
Lorelei can be described as a woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. Many people have tried to enforce their beliefs on her, and many have perished in the task. Dealing with work she gives clears directives and expects people to follow them. If not so calm, she might’ve been described as a dragon lady, but if someone crosses her, her anger is never shown in an explosive manner.
With friends (not that she has many, what people would call, real friends) she is a nice woman. She’s a witch of few words, but every word she makes every word she says count. She rarely lets people in too close on her personal life, and can back away when a relationship gets too intimate on anyone else’s terms but hers. It’s her way, or no way, regarding every aspect of her life.
Following the law is everything to Lorelei. Being immersed in the finer tunings of it for so long makes her regard every action that can’t be supported by the law as something punishable. Grey areas doesn’t exist for her. If you want to do something that is not legal - file a reform and wait for it to pass before indulging in whatever activity you were thinking of.
History:
Lorelei's was brought up by her Muggle parents (her father worked at the Boston City Council, her mother a Pre-School teacher) in a suburb of Boston, and could never even imagine a world filled with magic. But when, the day before her eleventh birthday, her mother sat her and her father down to tell them about another world filled with magic, her world turned upside down. Her mother was a Squib, and in an effort to distance herself from a world she could never be a part of she had decided to cut all the cords to her former life. The day after was the first time Lorelei met her maternal grandmother - Xue Fan, an acclaimed Arithmancer in wizarding USA.
Lorelei's years at Salem Witches Institute (and Cliodne Hall) were both interesting and educative, and by the time she was able to pick her own subjects, she dug into the magical law system. Graduating with top grades in almost all of her subjects (Herbology and Magizoology being two big exceptions), she instantly applied for Laevenstrome's Fundunct of Sorcery, where she studied the inner workings of International Magical Law even further.
Her studies led to an Internship at the Congress of American Witches and Wizards, working in the law records department, where she excelled and quickly moved through the ranks. She enjoyed the work, and thrived in the paperwork and late-night meetings regarding developments on new laws. She carried on and made a name for herself.
After twenty years of service for the CAWW, she was approached with a job offer - to become the ambassador for the United States. Leaving her country was something that Lorelei thought long and hard on, but the prospect of developing even further and working in London finally won her over. Saying her goodbyes and packing her bags, she took a flight to the UK and started her position.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Lorelei is the Ambassador of the United States in the British Ministry of Magic. With this comes the mission to represent the United States in any matter that concerns the wizarding world in her country. She represents any American currently in the UK, and is there for protection or legal advice to these citizens. She works with foreign affairs (might it be the shipment of brass cauldrons across the Atlantic; or the best way to get the American National Quidditch team the best transport for their game) and tackles any disputes between the two countries.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Lorelei has always been interested in law - both muggle and wizarding. This she quickly figured out after studying at Salem Witches Institute, where every notion of a passed bill in the American Wizarding History class was followed up with an hour in the library, figuring out why and how it was passed. Enrolling at Leavenstrome’s she engulfed even more and was immediately offered an internship for the CAWW, where she up until now have worked for twenty years.
