[August 29] You can't turn back the clock; you can't turn back the tide [Adon]

Adon was on his feet, trying to look into the bowl the moment Maiko seemed to, well, snap back from what ever had happened.

It did not appear to go well.  Adon's stomach lurched.  "What did you--" Adon began before sputtering, shaking his head.  It was "them," Maiko seemed to be stuck on, but Adon gleaned an entirely different word from that quick exchange.

"Wait--'He'??" he asked, pointedly.  "You spoke to him, then? You spoke with Dree.  You are sure it was him?"  He shifted feet anxiously. "Di--did you see where he was? Anything distinguishing? Did he tell you who he was with, or where he was going?"

"He pushed me away at first. Not now, he said. But I didn't have any of that." Mai looked up at Adon, "I did speak to him. He had facial hair." She motioned towards her jawline and around her mouth, "A mustache and beard. He was dressed in white robes that covered him completely. And a scarf on his head." She patted at the seat next to her, encouraging the auror to sit.

Dreogan hadn't looked like Dree. "He seemed... Determined. Worried. He had a plan that was troubling him? He was right in the middle of something urgent. There were people nearby, but he was alone. Dree told me, 'Tell them I will see them soon.'" She did her best to mimic his inflection, in case there was something hidden in his words that Adon would've been able to pick up on. As well as she knew Dree, Adon and Akiva knew him significantly better. They were his family, Maiko was not.

"I am certain it was him.  I have no doubt about that whatsoever." Mai grimaced apologetically, "I'm-- I'm sorry, I'm sorry I couldn't get more than that." It was more than she expected, yet she felt like she should have done better-- that she should've done more.
Adon's face was eager--taking in each bit of information.  He had been right in one thing at least--Maiko had been perfect for the task.  A certain fastidious attention to detail, coupled with an emotional acuity.

His brother was alive.  Adon's nose stung--his eyes stung--at someone else telling him what he'd believed for so long.  But the immensity of the relief, akin to surprise, made him realize his how strongly he'd simultaneously believed the alternative.

"You have done more than I had hoped," Adon recovered, dismissing her apologies.

He pressed his lips together, thinking. Tell them I will see them soon." He repeated the phrase quietly.

"Were you... talking about or, I am not sure how--were you Seeing anyone in particular when he said that?" He began to collect the fragmented pieces of the ceremony and place them all back in his satchel.  The clary sage went back into its folded handkerchief, as did the coins and the hair.  "Either way," he said, pointedly as he crossed the room in several, long strides to enter the kitchen and unceremoniously dump the water out, "we should be on our way back to Dree's house.  To tell Akiva.  Then I will need to go to Diagon directly."  Any plan that Topuluk might have would likely incorporate Diagon, and If Dree was moving into action soon, he had best be prepared.
She watched as he put everything away, trying to remember exactly what he had-- just in case she needed to do this again in the future and he wasn't around. Maiko was determined now, and just a little bit pissed off. That anger was turning to concern-- while she was fully capable of holding a grudge, Maiko mostly felt sympathy toward Dreogan. He would not be in this situation if he could have avoided it.

Frankly, she needed a hug. Maslow was upstairs, Kohaku was... Wherever he was, and Cal was probably off getting himself into a situation that involved cats, homeless people, and balloons.

Mai got up, following him into the kitchen. Her eyes were used to the darkness by now, and navigating the area was not difficult. "I only saw Dree. We had an emotional connection at first but-- then he realized it was me, and communicated. He knows that you asked for my help." She cleared her throat, waiting for him to finish dumping the water. Maiko hesitated for a moment before wrapping her arms around him warmly-- and firmly. . "I'm hugging you whether you want it or not." She said stubbornly. "Because I need one."

Adon had no boobs to make a puzzle with here.  Just abs.

She let out a small noise that was almost a whimper, "Let's-- let's go tell her." Maiko released Adon from the hug and pulled out her phone, "I'm letting her know we're coming."

Adon tensed the instant he felt a light touch behind him. What in the name of Moloc--

"I'm hugging you whether you want it or not."

Yes. Yes, she was.

Adon was a good deal taller than her, which mean that his cringe was not directly visible to her.  Numbly, his arms searched for a place to put themselves--one hand was still holding the thin silver bowl--before finally settling awkwardly on her shoulder blade.  He patted lightly.  All this emotion.  Adon hadn't even dreamed of allowing that in, yet.

Adon disentangled himself from her, taking a deep breath in as he pulled away.  "Right.  Let's go, then."
Either Adon was wearing a bulletproof vest, or he had ridiculously strong abs. The liklihood of him wearing a bulletproof vest was very low, so she assumed it was abs. People with good abs were pleasant to hug-- not too boney, but firm. It nearly made up for Adon's abysmal hugging abilities.

"You can leave your things here, and pick them up later." Or he could leave them at Akiva's, either way it didn't really matter.

She heard the front door open-- and close.

"The bloody hell--" The lights turned on in the living room and a tall, sour faced teenager walked into the kitchen. He eyed Maiko, then Adon, then the silver bowl. His sister looked serious, the stranger looked-- attractive? Whatever. Something was off, he examined his sister's expression and deduced that he had interrupted some sort of important conversation. Kohaku looked straight at Adon and said, "Is this the guy who wanted you to pretend to be a shark and--no?" He sighed, "So this is the one who kept saying he was going to hell so you awkwardly agreed?"

She groaned, "Not in the mood for this. No. He's Kiv's brother in law."

"So it is Harpoon Man."

"Absolutely not." She paused-- the dog was prone to chaos when left locked in one place for too long, without freedom to roam. She made a vague motion towards the ceiling. "Maslow's upstairs. And we're on our way out. Now." Mai shut him right up, until a loud crashing noise followed by the thump thump thump of heavy paws came from above.

"....Shit." Kohaku  gave Adon a half-assed wave before rushing to rescue whatever poor inanimate objects had fallen.

Maiko turned to Adon, grimacing apologetically. "That was just my darling, precious little brother." The sarcasm was heavy in her tone. "He was suprisingly civil." He didn't ask Adon where he kept his wand, though if the conversation had gone any further...

"We're going. Now." She felt like her mind was pulling her here and there and-- Maiko wasn't fully confident in her abilities to apparate, not right now. Her muscles ached and her brain was beginning to throb. Still, her fireplace wasn't connected to the floo network. "Does side along apparition work for you?" Maiko pulled out her wand, just in case.
