Six Year! on January 20, 2015, 12:39:19 PM Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Years, Huzzah! Can you believe it's been six years? I can barely believe it's been a year since last year...! Absit Omen opened its doors on January 20, 2009 and has been a cozy nook of Potterverse roleplaying since! Check out the history of AO here. We're celebrating the new year with a celebration theme! (You can use the theme switcher on the Portal or your Profile to change back to your preferred decor.) We've also got another surprise in the works as our birthday month rolls out.In the meantime...Best AO Memories? Recall the olden days? Remember when you joined? Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #1 on January 20, 2015, 01:06:48 PM I remember when I joined. The first character I made was Serenity, but what I really wanted was Bellatrix Dark. Once I got settled in, I adopted Miss Dark. It's funny you should mention memories because I was just thinking about Annie. My first year here was probably the best memory I have. Between plotting for the many ways I could make Bellatrix suffer the most (I recall Xavier Tawse being one of those things) and being inspired to have our Ickle Firsties get up to some trouble, I had made dozens of fond memories.I can't believe it's been six years. Happy birthday, AO! Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #2 on January 20, 2015, 04:16:49 PM I remember visiting AO waaaaay back when it was the first remembering day. I joined as The Bloody Baron, but didn't manage to write a bio or follow things through as I was already rping somewhere else and a mod, so my time here was short and sweet, and that account got cleaned out in a purge. Then times changed, and I came back again for a second look, saw the Defence post open and... well... the rest is history. I do remember happy thoughts of finally feeling at home in an rp forum again, about writing and not just making shiny graphics and fancy plotters. Then of course there were you lovely writers who made it feel like I'd been here ages when it had only been five minutes. Good good times. Still is. Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #3 on January 20, 2015, 04:59:11 PM I had been on Hogwarts Magic and SR after it but along the way I lost my taste for RP in general. AO had been open about a year when I joined as Dolly, Natalie had finally talked me into revisiting characters we had written years and years before. The thing I remember is almost instantly feeling at home, feeling a part of things. Eventually there came Liviana and then Sophie. I have so many lovely memories of staying up all night giggling over characters and forming these friendships that are still intact today! The best part of AO is the people. It's the people who put so much time and effort into making it this amazing place. The other best thing about AO is that no matter how long I wander away all I have to do is poke my nose in the cbox and there is a chorus of welcomes. I don't think there are people in real life that happy to see me! We're like a really awesome big family, except more awesome because we choose one another.I choose you, AO <3 Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #4 on January 21, 2015, 12:47:15 AM Wow. This is surreal. Six years ago I made Ollie 2.0. I had her on SR, and I aged her down and made her into what you see today. It is crazy to think she has lasted as a muse somewhere in my head this long. I remember Hogwarts Magic and SR. It was great to move with this community of writers. I came here as one of the founding members I guess you could say. I made Ollie and Nicola, and it seems ages ago but also not that long. Wow, six years. Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #5 on January 21, 2015, 07:48:41 AM I came to AO a brand new writer, ready to start writing on a post by post all by myself. I had watched ny older brother write on post by posts before, and I couldn't wait for my turn. This had been my first time completely independent and I was welcomed with own arms, big brothers and big sisters to keep an eye on me and make sure I was okay. That was four years ago, as I was beginning a whole other world of high school. AO was my home away from home. It was my escape from reality full of people who wanted to write with me, wanted to make me smile, and would brighten every dark day. AO has been there for me through break ups, and ends of friendships, and it was always comforting to know I had friends only a click away. Thank you for always welcoming me back with smiles, and offering to write with me, and pushing me to do my best on and offline. Without AO, I would not be who I am today, because AO isn't just another RP site. It's a magical place full of love and acceptance and laughs, and it makes magic real for me. As I now stand on the threshold of college, my next big jump into the future, I know that AO is there for me to fall back on, to be me, with my friends that are always there. I love you guys so much. Thank you for all you've done. Every single member here is the magic of AO, and for that, I am ever thankful. I love AO and all of you. <3. Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #6 on January 21, 2015, 07:56:39 AM Well, I'm not too sure how long I've been here. I think maybe a year or something. I've lost track of time. I don't even remember where I found this site, but I'm sure glad I did. You see, I have a very active imagination that's very hard to shut off and when it's not engaged in something creative I get bored and me bored is not a good thing. I am so glad I found this site when I did, even though my family thinks it is not a constructive use of my talents. From way back with Trystan and his little bro Gabriel (whom I don't think I used very much), to working up enough courage to actually try my hand on here with a more towards canon Draco. I am loving every minute of this site.I love the people on here, they are welcoming and helpful and always around to answer a silly question it would only take a minute to find on my own. Love you guys. Skip to next post Re: Happy Birthday, Absit Omen! Six Year! Reply #7 on January 21, 2015, 10:25:41 AM Wow- six years! I had spent nearly a decade writing X-men and AO was the first time I had flourished under another fandom. Elle had posted an ad on a site I was helping to mod and when I came over to post an ad back I fell in love. My official join date with Ayla is February 24, 2010 (I'm coming up on five years here)I haven't always been the most active but AO has been here for me when I've needed it, the overwhelming response I got from it's members when my husbandand I separated still warms me to this day. I've moved house something like eight times, I'v had three jobs, I earned my black belt, I've turned 30, I've been with friends and family as they've also endured major life changes and sometimes traumas. But, since 2009 there's been something constant. A magical world always waiting for me, and friends ever-ready to offer a kind 'hello'. Of all the hobbies I've had, all the communities I've ever belonged to - Absit Omen outshines them all. At the time I joined, I was only RPing a government bureaucrat and a law enforcement officer. It was such a fun way to explore corners of the Potterverse--and even foreign countries-- that I'd never gotten to see play out in the books. And now, after a brief stint in Jerusalem... well...
