[July 10] One Hull of a Problem [SEA Boat capsizing] on January 11, 2015, 06:07:03 PM At first, she felt a tilt-- totally normal on a ship, perhaps the tide didn't agree. Perhaps--Then there was a loud booming noise, outside the window she saw something slithering through the water, the waves crashed against the sides of the boat-- the creature opened it's jaws, revealing sharp, pointed teeth-- there was a loud roaring noise (or was that the sound of thunder?), and balls of fire decorated the skyline. It's massive tail collided with the side of the ship-- and the boat creaked and groaned in protest as it tipped a bit more--ruuuumblllleCRASHBOOMThe entire ship shook, she fell onto the ground-- furniture and glass splintered against the walls, and seawater began to rush in. The creature let bellowed triumphantly, spewing celebratory balls of flames from it's mouth. Maiko jolted awake, heart pounding, hands shaking, and head throbbing. She rubbed her temples but wasted no time in leaping out of bed. She bounced to the door as she attempted to pull on her slippers. She grabbed her wand off of a shelf and snapped it between her hip and the waist of her pajama pants. She had no pockets, it would have to do. Slamming her cabin door behind her, Maiko sprinted to the cabin of the head chaperone, only to slide into her door.Fair enough, she needed to be awake. Maiko swung the door open, "Shona." She said firmly, pushing her wildly crazy bed-head hair out of her eyes, "Get up. We need to prepare. We have one hull of a problem." Despite the gravity of the situation, she couldn't resist the pun. "The boat will capsize, soon." In her vision, the sun had just awoken, though it was currently still dark outside. "We have a couple hours, at most." Shona gets the first post, then we'll be opening it up for the rest of SEA Skip to next post Re: [July 10] One Hull of a Problem [SEA Boat capsizing] Reply #1 on January 12, 2015, 06:37:30 PM By nature, Shona was a heavy sleeper. She could stay up with the best of them– has, and still could, thankyouverymuch –and during the day there were times she seemed to be made of pure energy and smiles, relentlessly, achingly jaunty in the way morning people so often seemed. But the truth was that it was simply due to a mix of werewolfy stamina, sheer personality, and enough coffee to give a herd of elephants a heart attack. In reality, Shona was a night owl, and between all the running around that she did and the little sleep she too often got, something had to give.So while it sucked for Maiko to body check her door... well. It certainly gave the wolf the nudge she needed to stir. And if that wasn’t enough, the yelling was; green eyes shot open, wide and alert. Jackknifing into a more upright position, Shona scrambled out of bed, hair wild and sleeping clothes wrinkled. “Capsizing?” she repeated, and swore as she nearly tripped on her sheets. Fiercely she kicked them away. “You’re sure?”But even as she asked, she darted across the cabin, snatching up her wand and her bag and clamped the former between her teeth. As much as she wanted to grab a more practical pair of pants—she couldn’t, didn’t, instead tossing the bag at Maiko, already tearing off her shirt (revealing a comfy sports bra underneath) and foregoing shoes as she rushed to the door, relying on the other witch to move out of her way. If worse came to worst, it’d only weigh her down, and that–The students. The other chaperones and staff. Her brother. Swallowing back the ball of terror threatening to lodge itself in her throat, Shona grabbed Maiko’s hand just as she was about to pass by. And necessary. "Yes, I'm certain." There were a couple of other seers on the ship this morning as well, there was a chance that they too, had experienced visions in one form or another. They may already be awake-- Nico and Winnie. "We're going to wake up the other chaperones." Maiko said as much to herself as she was to Shona, squeezing her hand back before rushing out the door. "We'll have them help us gather all the students, and we'll meet in the dining hall." Her gut instinct told her that Shona had thought the very same thing before the words even escaped from her mouth. "It's a creature that will knock the ship over-- a dragon, snake thing. It can breathe fire." The panic had disappeared. She felt an eerie sense of calm and her mind was clear, though her head still ached. She was likely to react more after the fact, but for the moment she was eerily calm. Needless to say, she was ready to prepare. They woke up the other chaperones quickly, directly, and assigned them cabins to gather students from. Rick was assigned to watch the students who had already reached the dining hall; Leon was in charge of making sure owls were sent out for backup. With the help of Homenum Revelio and Shona's keen sense of smell, the two ladies in command gathered the rest of the stragglers and practically herded them to the dining hall. All in all, the gathering of students was much less disastrous than it could've been-- imagine if they had used the sonorous charm to rouse everybody awake? As Shona and Rick double checked to make sure everybody was accounted for, Maiko raised her eyebrow at Nico-- one of the last stragglers-- if he had a vision as well, it was best if he shared it with her. The more information they had, the better off they were. The dining hall was abuzz with the sound of grumbling, sleepy, and mostly confused teenagers who would soon be getting an explanation. Some were still asleep (snoring at varying volumes)-- and had been dragged or carried by their friends or, if necessary, one of the chaperones. He looked at his roommates, still sleeping soundly and quietly hoisted himself down from the top bunk and grabbed a hoodie before he exited the room, padding softly down the hallway towards Maiko's cabin. While Nico found the counselor to be a bit of a fun-sucker (apparently there were 'ethics' regarding being a Seer, and selling test answers out of his dorm was considered a faux pas), he didn't trust anyone else to not incite a panic on the ship. However, his attempt at stealth proved rather moot, because at that moment a herd of students bull rushed Nico, led by one of the chaperones. He fell into the crowd, and shot death glares at anyone who jostled him. Apparently Maiko must have had a similar vision. The Ravenclaw boy decided that it was just as well. Now he didn't have to act like he actually cared about the well being of those on the ship, as someone else took the responsibility from him. He had a reputation to uphold, after all.Eventually, the students were all dumped rather unceremoniously in the dining hall, and he stood on his tiptoes to try to locate his friends. He saw Connor's head above the crowd, but Maiko stood in the way of him and his friend, a knowing look on her face."I must say that while I figured we were tempting fate traveling by boat during monsoon season, I did not anticipate some great sea beast," Nico remarked sardonically to the other Seer. "... You did see the leviathan, right? I guess there are worse ways to die. I am slightly disappointed that I didn't get to meet Malcolm O'Neal, though. The advances he's made in the study of paleomagizoology are quite remarkable."He shrugged with perhaps too much indifference based on the circumstances. "Oh well. So, who is in the enviable position of telling all of these wide-eyed youths that they're about to sink to the bottom of Davey Jones' locker?" Skip to next post
