Ministry Busts Runespoor Smugglers
by Niobe Thursby

LONDON - Early in the morning this 1 May, the Department for the Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures and the Auror Office worked in conjunction to intercept an illegal shipment of Runespoor eggs.  Mercutio Tiverton was arrested at the scene and at least thirteen Runespoor eggs were confiscated.  Runespoors carry a rating of XXXX, classifying them as highly dangerous and should only handled by specialists.  In addition, the possession or trade of Runespoors, their eggs or body parts is highly restricted.  Mr Tiverton and anyone else who might be implicated in this bust could face time in Azkaban if convicted.

Department Head and Magizoologist Covadonga Gertrudis described Runespoors as three-headed snakes, nearly six feet in length.  One of their heads has poisonous fangs.  She went on to say, "This creature is restricted in Britain not only due to their 'endangered beast' status and XXXX danger rating, but also because of their habit as a non-native species to choke out magical and non-magical animals indigenous to the United Kingdom if released in the wild.  In addition, their eggs are a common item found on the black market due to their use in potions which enhance mental abilities.  The potions themselves are often dangerous to make on top of the fact that the time it takes for a Runespoor to hatch varies from family to family and the signs of the event happening at a certain time are minimal.  Upon being freed from their prenatal confines the younglings are known to be quite testy."

The public is warned to avoid any orange and black three-headed serpents of any kind, caution their children to do the same, and immediately contact the Ministry if one is sighted.
