Last IC summer, prefects were chosen in a way that tried to mimic the IC decisions of Professors and staff, by polling professor characters.

This year, we've decided to keep it simple, and in line with how we do applications for other IC positions.

Up until 31st December 2014, you may submit an application for the following:

Prefects

5th Years and 7th Years, one boy and one girl per house in each year

Head Boy and Head Girl

7th Years (do not have to have been a prefect), one boy and one girl

How to apply

Use the Special Title Application to apply. The form must be completely filled out and submitted before the deadline.

More than one character can apply for each post. If we receive more than one application we will check applications generally for whether they meet requirements, and toss a coin.

If you have a seventh year character and would like to apply for Head Girl or Head Boy, but would like to also apply for a prefect post in case you don't achieve Head status, that's fine. Please submit both forms. We'll sort Head students out first and discard the extra form. Both must be submitted by the deadline.

When you apply please remember to provide either some IC moments where your character has proven themselves to be suitable for the role, or give some examples that have happened off page that suit your character's personality. Remember that IC the role would have been decided by the Headmistress and/or Professors.

What if I'm already a prefect?

If your 7th year character is active, and you already hold a prefect position, you do not need to submit an application for prefect. You are free to submit a Head Girl or Boy application though. If your character becomes a Head Girl or Boy, then we'll open their old prefect spot to maximise the number of spots.

What IC things will I need to do?

Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl are expected to take an active role in Hogwarts life. In the books they can dock house points and issue detentions for students of their own house. They patrol the Hogwarts Express, guide first year students and patrol the castle, help with preparations for events etc. and represent the school when called on. They also have access to the Prefect's bathroom.

Your character must remain active to retain the post. If your character is inactive, another writer can submit an application to replace them.

What if nobody applies for a position?

Then the role will remain open after announcements have been made, and will be open for application at any point.
