[June 31] Queen's Pawn Opening

In hindsight, if James wanted to get laid, this probably was not one of the better ideas he ever had.  All various sorts of potions ingredients - alkaline, acidic, plant-based, creature-based, and many other minerals were all lined up in various shelves, alcoves, and a few other places besides.  It was a novel experience for James.  He could not recall the last time he spent time with a girl and did not start thinking of the quickest way to get into her knickers.  It probably had not happened since puberty, but James was not counting.  The setting probably had something to do with it.  It was hard to think of sex when surrounded by saltpeter and bubotuber pus.  James did note however that they had all the ingredients present to cure a number of those diseases.

Another observation James made was that going into the store to peruse goods was far more effective than going through the catalog.  There were certain things one could see in person which one could not explain over various magical forms of communication, no matter how advanced they seemed.  He had actually thought of a few variations of nutrient potions already, and he had not yet been in the store that long.  Like most guys on dates, he was still dressed decently well.  James did not think much of his outfit though.  The reason for this was because a few females kept complaining about his choice of robes.  So he went shopping with them, which was probably the biggest mistake of his life.  Since they only seemed to like one outfit, James ordered half a dozen of them and called it a day. Consequently, he was wearing gray dress robes of a high quality.  Not that he ever wore anything different.

"So, this is Sellaphix Apothecary.  This place has a large number of ingredients, and we have got a fair bit of time.  Anything you want to look at first?  Oh - and remind me to make sure you get an owl order catalog before we leave." James asked/amended, almost forgetting the secondary reason they came here.

Illyria really had no clue what she was doing.  She had only been back in London for a week and she already had a date with a professional Quidditch player.  She was beginning to think that he might want more than a date, but she shook off her worry and began to worry about other things... like what to wear.  You see, Illyria preferred muggle clothing and didn't really have any robes to wear.  So she decided to just be herself and left for the date in jeans and a nice blouse.

The apothecary was like heaven for Illyria, she hadn't seen an actual one since graduating from Hogwarts and she just wanted to blow all the money her father had given her right here and now, but she held herself back.  She heard James ask a question and for once, she wasn't being her shy self, she thrived in a place like this.  "Nothing in particular I would like to look at first, but I would like to browse around."  She began perusing the shelves, completely forgetting she was on a date.

Though James was not a particular man of fashion, he knew most girls agonized over the question. He was a little bit worried that his date decided to come into muggle robes into knockturn alley of all places, but it was still daylight so he hoped he would not have to defend her honor too much.  Still, this apothecary was about as above the board as any place in this alley would get.  He debated whether he should warn her about her choice of attire or not.  James found nothing wrong with her outfit, but it seemed too muggleborn for the location.  James was hardly a purist by any means, but James knew that wearing a muggle outfit in Knockturn was asking for trouble.   Though he doubted it would be an issue given the time of day and that she was with him, she wondered if she realized her outfit screamed "ROB ME".  He opted not to comment on it for now, but probably would if she made such a mistake in the near future.

James noticed Illyria go off into her own little world, and James was content to join her, browsing along the shelves.
"Ooooh- werewolf toenails - 5 for a sickle.  That's not bad.  So what do you like to brew?" James commented and asked, trying to get to know her a bit better.  Afterall, his contact with this woman up until now had been quite literally just waiting for a cup of coffee, getting her contact information and leaving.  It had been so long since James had anything other than a one-night stand that he practically forgot how dating worked.

"And forgive me for asking, but I am curious.  What do you define as a good first date?  Just for my reference, of course," James asked, trying to figure her out a little bit more.  He actually was curious.  His only real definition of a good first date was that it led to a second date.  Then again, James had not been dating for a long time.
