Wand: Olive wood, 14 inches, chimaera scale, pliable, spiraled shaft.
Ahmes' wand was not originally hers--but she keeps that knowledge very private.
Physical Description: Ahmes has a sort of haphazard elegance about her--which could also be termed "natural beauty" to those hellbent on excessive praise. Naturally thin, Ahmes is not very toned, and is of average height.
She has olive skin dusted with freckles, hazel eyes, straight full eyebrows, and a slow and easy smile. Her straight brown hair reaches her shoulders--but grows abnormally quickly, and very easily could reach mid-back before she bothers to get it cut.
Ahmes always underdresses. Always. She prefers flowing clothing--loose tunics, baggy cardigans, and harem pants--and chooses to offset this would-be schlubby attire by adding sequins, since shininess, in her mind, tends to be an indicator of formality.
Ahmes is accustomed to layering jewelry--including multiple rings on knuckles--that are mementos of her travels, or some nod to her multiple heritages: including celtic, Egyptian, and heirloom jewelry.
Personality Description: Kema Ahmes Morgan does not come across as head-strong, as energetic, or witty. In fact, often times, Kema Ahmes Morgan doesn't come across as much of anything at all.
Ahmes has a tendency to keep to herself--and is content to observe others and let her mind run rampant, all the while appearing cool, collected, and easy-going. She is fully capable of entertaining herself--toying with new ideas, inventions, or developing growing opinions on the world and its personalities--and particularly enjoys people-watching.
A good listener, and a friend who provides unexpected bursts of wit and energy, Ahmes has a tendency to attract friends to all walks of life. She attracts the sort of person who--for one reason or another--needs a friend.
Extremely non-judgmental and nearly impossible to shock, Ahmes makes for a good friend, a good sounding board when considering ideas and courses of action, but perhaps a less suitable defender. After all, Ahmes likes to consider all sides, all viewpoints, and is just as likely to agree with you as disagree with you--no matter how dear a friend you are.
Ahmes has managed to collect friends from all walks of life--and it is not uncommon for Ahmes to collect a friend merely from a walk in the park. As someone without unduly strong opinions, Ahmes has a way of continuing friendships for just about as long as the person tolerates it--which, in the past, has been far too long. Ahmes is prone to letting in bad influences.
Ahmes is driven by ideas. She has left jobs with little to no warning as soon as she has found the work uninteresting--and is also notorious for leaving a couple of key romantic relationships just as abruptly. A restless mind, Ahmes is always open to new ideas, and constantly enjoys changing her jobs, titles, appearance, and living situations. The end result is that she is her own chimaera--made up of multiple parts of herself in former lives. She has an interesting collection of hobbies, friends, and ex-boyfriends. As someone open to change, she seems incapable of understanding the inconsistencies--and in fact, apparent contradictions--in her own life.
Good-spirited, whimsical, generally content, and a fascinated observer of life, Ahmes is generally considered a pleasant, light person to spend time with.
History: Kema Ahmes Morgan was born to a witch and a wizard of mixed heritage. Her mother, Isis Kaur was, by heritage, part Irish, part Egyptian, part Indian Sikh--and a halfblood witch. Her father,Haephestus Morgan, was a halfblood wizard of Scottish descent--long estranged from the more notable pureblood Morgan branch. Ahmes did not consider this mixed identity at all significant, even if she does get bold questions from near-strangers asking her heritage. Her reply: British.
Still, Ahmes grew up self-aware of her culture. Her family upon multiple occasions visited Luxor, Egypt, where her cousins still reside. Even before her Hogwarts days, Ahmes showed a keen interest in Egytpian history, particularly in the curses laid on ancient Egyptian sites.
When Ahmes received her letter, the family was thrilled. As an only child, both parents were vastly involved in her education--from her first day, when sorted into Ravenclaw, to her years in various clubs. During this time, Ahmes started--and never pursued--multiple interest clubs including the Oinomancy Club (which involved, of course, a lot of wine), Inventor's Club, the Magical Hacker's Club (which was no sooner named than shut down), the Cribbage Club (which performed an odd amount of hacking of Hogwarts protective and restrictive spells for such an innocuous name), and the Cooking Club (which still involved a lot of wine).
These clubs were short lived (particularly during the tense year before, during, and after the War), but while they existed, Ahmes was an enthusiastic leader--trying to convince others to join her pet projects. With a burst of energy, Ahmes would research her subject exhaustively, but--by the time she had begun to implement it, the passion burned out. While a great bringer of ideas, Ahmes did not have the structure or the leading wherewithal to bring consistency to her teenage cohorts. Procrastination, tardiness, and lack of planning would eventually dissolve the group organically.
By the time Ahmes had taken her O.W.L.S, she was an amateur at most subjects--showing great natural skill, but a great proficient at nearly nothing. In an odd turn of events, it was Professor Slughorn who provided Ahmes with the needed direction to truly excel. Seeing Ahmes' ability to think outside the box and wholeheartedly devote herself to a fascination, Slughorn proposed inventing and developing of spells and magical devices.
Her last few years at Hogwarts, Ahmes had developed several prototypes of magical devices (now languishing in paperwork, awaiting patents) and several ingenious workarounds to protective spells and barriers. Choosing to delve into the world in her mind rather than to confront the tempestuous years at the War, Ahmes managed to keep her head down--acting for many as a happy escape from bleak reality with various hijinxes, adventurous expeditions, and implausible plots.
In recent years, she has been working on creating spectacles which would allow Muggles to see objects or locations formerly blocked from their view by protective charms--which would be of great assistance to Muggle parents of new witches and wizards. However, most of her inventions have created a great deal of resistance.
As an innovator in a very traditionalist society, Ahmes has not had much success. Until recently, her inventions have been side-projects, as she has been unable to turn a profit from them.
However, she has recently become a new developer at a pharmaceuticals company--finding that this is the area where innovation is most readily adopted. Being new to the health industry, Ahmes is facing a steep learning curve. However, she finds this terribly fascinating.
For now.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Ahmes works for George's Marvelous Medicine (GMM)--which is owned by George Tobias Gorby-Brimmes. The company's goal is to improve upon the tried-and-tired potions and concoctions in use in the Magical world. GMM currently has a contract with St. Mungo's, and is responsible in part for developing innovative cures for boils, as well as for identifying areas of improvement in medicine.
While perhaps hard to imagine, as one of the more socially-competent inventors and developers in the firm, Ahmes has been largely tasked with outreach to Mungo's staff and patients--in hopes of identifying areas for improvement.
Once she has compiled a list of ideas, the GMM board will decide which projects are most likely to be accepted, to be lucrative, and to be attainable within the time frame of the contract.
From there, Ahmes will be a project manager--responsible for hiring her own staff to develop and implement a strategy for product development.
This sounds like a long project, and Ahmes--accustomed to "for now" projects--is showing reservations at the extent of this project, and is attempting to curtail its scope. As a free spirit entering a corporate world, Ahmes is getting the sense that she bit off more than she'd like to chew.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field: While Ahmes has little to no experience in medicine, she has a keen eye for identifying areas of improvement, and is quite good at developing ideas, when they are of interest to her.
She has a broad portfolio of past inventions, and is accustomed to ad-libbing her own spells with moderate success (a significant, and nearly expert-trait in and of itself).
As an easy-going personality not easily ruffled, she has been very kindly (and rather abruptly) volunteered to be the one to deal with high-strung healers and cranky inpatients at Mungo's.
Writing Sample: Sum up your character in one paragraph: Kema Ahmes Morgan has a broad array of interests--none of which attract her interest for long, and a wide array of friends--which, being flawed individuals, keep her interest intensively. Careless in many regards, such as appearance and general comportment, Ahmes can at first seem very lazy and laid-back. However, her keen and quick fascination in topics can be consuming, and Ahmes is, at heart, a passionate individual. While it lasts.
