"It's a wonderful feeling even if we were flying around in a car." Gabrielle admitted, and Francis put a hand to his stomach.
"I don't know, made me feel a little seasick, but that could have been my brother's driving, and the dementors wouldn't have helped." He let her go and tend to the sausages.

"Just hopefully Monty and Edwin can work something together out, hm? Try and find a win win situation, if one can even be met?" Her brief kiss on his cheek brought a little colour to his face in the sunshine, especially as they were stood with Knox. It felt strange after Claire's absence at these things. "After all, didn't we have to work together, Mr. Pepper?"

Francis turned and smiled, remembering.
"Yes!" He spoke warmly, and clasped her arm as he thought of it. "I've not been able to cast a patronus in what feels like years, but before those dementors, and with Gabrielle, it returned!" His eyes were alight before Knox - such animation in his face normally only around close friends, or when speaking passionately about subjects like the treatment of Muggleborns and Muggles in general. "Oh, it is such a relief, I have been so worried it would not come back to me." He smiled to himself, and relaxed his shoulders down.

"You haven't come across these dementors, have you Greyfriar? Horrible, deathly creatures, even worse than I remember."

"Really, Mortimer?" Lyra asked of her husband at Quill's description. "It's been a fair few years since we last had him at the house."
"Just interdepartmental co-operation my darling." Mortimer replied gently, deciding it wasn't the time or the place to tell Lyra that Glass had been at the house more recently, she just couldn't remember as those memories had been erased. Glass had been an obliviator in his time, they didn't leave things to chance.

"Well, your Department, Creatures, the others, you form a marvellous team." He turned to Lyra slightly, "Som makes a tremendous team lead, you should see her in action. When she says jump, they do ask how high," he gave Quill a thin-lipped smile that more looked like a snake with indigestion.

"But the likes of what we do on level nine doesn't require a raggedy team. You all do a magnificent job, and we fit amongst it. You don't get in our way, we don't get in yours, you see?" He laced his fingers behind his back and peered down at the Deputy Head of Department.

"Thought Glass might have explained that, after our close, clever chum chats, as you put it."

Knox watched as Gabrielle showered demure affection on Francis Pepper as only the esteemed diplomat could.  He had to smile at Francis's modesty.  At some point, Knox raised a hand quietly as if to say, 'don't mind me'.  Knox himself hadn't been with anyone since Meredith and save time adjusting to living alone, he hadn't found the longing for another romantic engagement.  Not out of pain, mind, rather from a place of peace.  Seeing Gabrielle and Francis looking so content made him feel content as well.  There were nice things in the world, after all.

"Dementors? Thank my bones, I haven't!" Knox replied with a prayer-like glance skyward.  He shook his head. "I have to wonder if I'd be up to the task.  I cast my Patronus just last week when I thought of it, and all seems to be in order.  But I've never been a firework under pressure, no.  I taught history, did you know?"

He had a sense of humor about his house-mouse nature.
